Filed to ESPN: Redskins placed first-round tender on QB Jason Campbell. Tender is 110 percent of last year's base salary, over $3.1 million.

3.1 mill is more than a 1st/3rd rounder (was last year). I'm not really sure how it's only a 1st.

1st round tender sounds like they are probably trying to tempt someone.

Or that they are really wanting a 2nd rounder for him and start the negotiations high....remember just bc its a 1st round tender does not mean the other team cannot offer a 2nd + whatever

Because since his salary was more than the 1st and 3rd tender, he gets 110% of what his base was last year.

Redskins sending a signal with Campbell tender?

Per Adam Schefter of NFL Network, the Washington Redskins have assigned a first-round tender offer to quarterback Jason Campbell. If he plays under the offer, he will earn about $3.1 million in 2010.

What is interesting is that the team chose not to add some $100,000 to the tender to bump it up on one that would give the Redskins first- and third-round picks as compensation should they choose not to match an offer sheet for Campbell. Movement for a first-round pick is rare, movement for a first and third is unheard of.

Since the tender had to be at least 100% of his 2009 salary, the tender offer is the minimum that they could pay him and still maintain his rights.

This could mean that the Redskins are signaling that they are prepared to move on without Campbell. Although players rarely move as restricted free agents, this could be different. Rarely is a 28-year-old quarterback with three and a half years of starting experience with improving statistics every season on the market for a first-round pick. With no quality quarterbacks on the market as unrestricted free agents, a team in need of a signal caller might be tempted to bite.

And remember that the Redskins can choose to take less in compensation if they want to. The first-round tender sends a signal that maybe they are prepared to negotiate.

If the Redskins ultimately are going to move forward without Campbell, this is the last season they can do so and get something in return for the player who cost them three draft picks in 2005.

Rotoworld:

The Redskins have extended a first-round tender to restricted free agent Jason Campbell.

Campbell was a first-round pick, so the club's options were limited. Still, he is the favorite to start Week 1 for Washington even if the Skins use the No. 4 overall selection on a QB. The rookie may be eased in like how Mike Shanahan brought Jay Cutler along behind Jake Plummer, and Campbell obviously hasn't been good enough for another team to give up a first-rounder for.
