SkinsHokieFan
We knew he was plan B, but I am not sure of how great of a plan B he is His defenses all seem fairly pedestrian to me
authentic
http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2010/01/former_saints_rams_coach_jim_h.html Jim Haslett, the former coach of the Rams and Saints who spent last season with the United Football League as the head coach of the Florida Tuskers, has agreed to join Mike Shanahan in Washington as the Redskins' defensive coordinator, according to someone informed of the talks between Haslett and the team. The person requested anonymity because final details of Haslett's contract are still being worked out and no formal announcement has yet been made. maskedsuperstar
Haslett? Gosh our Defense is going to suck big time!! get ready for a long year on defense folks i'll be the first to call it.EDIT: and what happened with Shanahan taking his time, being patient and looking at all the possibilities? has he even interviewed Haslett yet before hiring him? this sounds more like a desperate move since no one really wants to come here.:cry::cry:
mhearn
Meh. Hopefully he'll do better here than in his last few stops. It will be interesting to see if he goes 4-3 or 3-4 because it looks like he has experience in both. I'm thinking we stick with a 4-3 base at the very least for this season while we build up the offense. probably mix in a few 3-4 plays to get the team comfortable, make the switch if things go well in the next 2-3 seasons. kingdaddy
Haslett was a good D-Coordinator; that's how he got the head coaching jobs he got. He will be aggressive and will love having Albert and Rak to work with. Hopefully he can get Landry going and we will be an even better defense next year. If we can be a dominant defense, other things will take care of themselves with Shanahan running the show. Let's start building the O-line and find some backs that can break some tackles. NewRegime
Good DC? looking at his past his never led a Top defense.. He was the DC for the Steelers from '97-'99 before beeing hired as the HC for the Saints. '97 - 6th overall '98 - 12th overall '99 - 11th overall May not have been all been top ten, but he was the DC for good defenses and is versed in the 3-4. #1HIT
Way to not read. Haslett was here yesterday. With D Coordinators in high demand Shanny had to realize it was either time to S or get off the pot.Rich_Campbell another good reporter on the skins beat just confirmed it with Haslett'ss agent. Welcome about Jimmy lets hope DC is the right fit. I just hope it works out tho,..that being said the guy has never led a top defense, so what is all the fuzz about him being so great and a genius? SkinsManNJ
I hope he can create the hybrid 3-4-4-3 defense. And have it work. If not at least have a more aggressive style of 4-
TK
It was all about trying to drive up prices . Jim Haslett knew that we knew he is good friends with Tom in NY so he used that to his advantage and it seemed to have worked Yeah his agent thought he was Drew R. We're used to agents using us to get more money for players, now they're doing it for coaches.
authentic
I hope he sticks with the 4-3 as well. I dont think we have the personel for the 3-

Hunter_R
Does this have good odds of ending the experiment of having Orakpo as a 4-3 linebacker??

Jeff in D.C.
Haslett's rankings as DC: 1996 Saints - 13th 1997 Steelers - 6th 1998 Steelers - 12th 1999 Steelers - 11th 2006 Rams - 23rd 2007 Rams - 21st 2008 Rams (also interim HC) - 28th Mixed results, but it looks like if he has something to work with talent wise that he gets the most out of them. The only concern is that he prefers a 3-4 and we don't have the personnel for a 3-4.
maskedsuperstar
All this "we don't have the personnel for the 3-4" goes out the window, now. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4820872
DexterSackMachine
Aggressive coordinator with a strong defensive background.Never really cut it when he had full control as a HC, and all the extra responsibilities that brings, but I'm happy to see him here controlling what he specialises in. Hail. He took over Mike Ditka's mess in New Orleans and made them into a playoff team. True, the rest of his tenure there was around .500 ball, but that was the Saints MO for many years.
