Charlie Weis Going To Washington? Why Not?

Here’s the problem with Redskins fans that would laugh off the possibility of Charlie Weis coming to Washington. It’s that same kind of delusion that got your team and your emotions into this mess in the first place.

Let’s go over the facts about this gloriously hypothetical scenario. Vinny Cerrato, the GM that can’t do enough to get fired, has Notre Dame ties. Let’s assume for a moment that these ties wouldn’t be enough to put ND alum Weis in line for the ‘Skins gig.

You still have the reality of Daniel Snyder wanting to chase down every new hot name in a sweatshirt and head phones to coach this team.

And Weis has always maintained privately that he had plenty of options, most of which are back in the NFL. We all know that when somebody has options, coach or player, the Redskins are usually the kid in front with their hand up high saying “Ooooh! Ooooh! Pick us! We got lots of money to put on it!”

Why wouldn’t the Redskins at least be intrigued? Weis is a credible offensive coordinator and has as many Super Bowl titles at that position as the Redskins have in franchise history. Of the hot coaching prospects out there, only Mike Holmgren can make the same claim.

Since when are we above putting unorthodox coaching hires above Snyder and Co.? Snyder and Cerrato are crazy enough to hire Weis just to gain additional leverage in the Jimmy Clausen sweepstakes, of which they are the only eager contestant as it stands now.

Most ‘Skins fan may take this as a joke, but hiring Weis as the next head coach of the Washington Redskins is a very real and tangible proposition under this leadership group. And even though it is a hilarious proposition, it’s also one that you couldn’t classify as totally insane from the prospect of improving the team.

maybe as a offense coord, not a HC. Wasn't he the OC for the Pats?? Why wasn't he consider for a nfl HC job when he went to Notre Dame? Why? Because he is not HC quality.

He'll be looking for a job I'm sure... and I'm sure Bill Belicheck would want him after losing Josh McDaniels.

It's not that Charlie can't recruit, or that he is not an X's and O's guy. He nabbed the top offensive recruits over the last few seasons in Clausen, Tate, Allen, Floyd, Olsen and Rudolph plugging in one premeire DE and LB over that time. What do you think that tells you?

His lack of concern about Defense shows you his mindset. He didn't care about the D as he was sure he would score so many points that the D wouldn't have to do much to help them win.

He's arrogant and is not a good decision maker. He can draw up plays, coach a QB up, but unless someone with a very STRONG personality is not in place to veto his sometimes ridiculous decisions, he would be a failure again.

The only people out there that come to mind are Cowher and Parcells.

That's the sad truth. Even though everyone in America may think something is a crazy idea, Snyder and Vinny will find a reason to try it.

When Weis left the Patriots he was highly regarded in the NFL and very well could have taken offers for head coaching jobs. As an alumnus, however, the Notre Dame gig just so happened to be his dream job and was where he ended up.

Ideal choice as players do not like to play post season games either.

Charlie Weiss can win with the right players. He did so his first two years at Notre Dame. He couldn't recruit...

Doesn't mean he's not a good Head Coach/.

What the hell is wrong with you people? Weiss had some of the best recruiting classes the last two years. He can't coach. See it's people like you that love when Dan gets these high ticket players, so you can tell your friends we will win the super bowl. You have no insight.

Weiss was a great recruiter. He got JIMMY CLAUSEN, and players like Golden Tate. I mean jesus! He just is not a good head coach. Niether are Romeo Cronnel, or Eric Mangini. Maybe they need a second stint with Bill, like he has with Parcels, but in either case Weiss is not a good head coach.

I'd be pretty shocked if he got a HC job in the NFL. OC is probably his destination, and I doubt he'd get a job here simply because of Cerrato's connection to the school. In fact, all signs point to him not being hired because he's an offensive coach and he's not west coast. Maybe if he were a defensive coach, maybe I could see this having some salt to it. But the FO will be looking to get a WCO guy like Gruden or Shanahan if they bring in an offensive guy to be the HC.
