Slateman
Hey all, Back in Fairfax on leave. Really craving some great Italian food. Are there any mom and pop type places around here? If not, where's the best place to go?

Bzapf
http://www.pomodoropastapizza.com/ in Fairfax Town Center. I love the pizza it's great NY style. Tastes like your eating it in NYC. It's not really meant to be a sit down restaurant but the food is awesome.
Midnight Judges
There is a nice Italian restaurant in Manassas right off 28. Forget what it's called. It's in a crappy strip mall but the food is very good. Totally doesn't fit in with it's surroundings. Also, in Old Town Alexandria there is a new (ish) restaurant called Brabos. It's not strictly Italian, but their pasta is fresh and freakin' awesome. In fact, all of their food is amazing. Highly recommend. It's expensive. BTW, I spent two weeks in Italy in August so I have a pretty good comparison point.

It's the best Italian in the area and one of my favorites. After dinner they bring out carafes of sambuca and amaretto and you can drink as much as you want for free.
