Do we need a running back??

With Portis' injuries (and 10,328 other factors) threatening his performance, Betts should get the start. Everyone rides him for fumbles, etc., but the evidence is there. When given carries in succession and being more than just a sub, he produces. Call it what you will, but the running production from him last game surpasses anything I've seen from CP this season. 2006 should prove that the guy is capable. Especially given the state of our offensive line, I'd prefer having Betts as a checkdown/swing pass option. That play last week when he picked up 11 or so would've been a 2 yard gain with CP the way he's been falling down on cuts this year.

I'd like to see us grab a running back/kick return specialist with SPEED. This league is going towards speed. There is not another Adrian Peterson out there, but there are plenty of Harvin/McCoy/Jackson types that are game changers. We need someone who touches the ball and strikes fear in defenses.

Jahvid Best could maybe drop. Also Legarrete Blount WILL slip

I still think CP is servicable for the next couple of seasons. At this point, I don't think it really matters who is back there because our OL is horrible. It wouldn't hurt to bring in a young RB to pair up with CP.

I disagree. He may be serviceable as a backup for the next two years, but not as a starter.

Anyone know which FA running backs will be available?

I think he could be fine in a time share. I don't think he will be able to keep getting 20 some carries a game anymore. I think he'd be fine with 10-15 a game.

The team does need a RB but it's not a big priority. Maybe have them stick around for a few years. I'm not sold on Portis and his performance. He just isn't explosive anymore and always falling down after taking 2-3 steps. I want the Clinton Portis I saw Week 1 back in 2004 against Tampa Bay. Using his awareness to adjust a play with the OL blocking to the left, he cuts up to the right and took off. I don't see that in Portis anymore.

Portis,Intill we can fix our team..or draft a young guy thats a beast..Dose'nt make sense to fix somthing that is not broken

Good teams do things that don't make sense. Dan and Vinny do everything that seems like common sense. because they play catch up and wait for a problem then fix it.

A good team looks to the future. Like drafting lito shepard and sheldon brown when you already have Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor. That said we have so many problems its hard to look where to start to fix them.

We need another DE, a couple of linebackers a corner if Rogers leaves, O linemen across the board and a QB.

If we end up trading down from our likely top 10 pick, and pick up an extra 2nd, I would say that we still use the late 1st rounder on OL; but we consider taking a young RB with our early 2nd if there is value there. If not we should draft OL again and look at the RB's on the board with the second 2nd rounder.
