theboomking
The Jarmon pick seems to have cleared up the DE situation a bit, and per Vinnie's comments, we seem set on keeping Wynn and Daniels to mentor Orakpo and Jarmon. Jackson gets bumped to the practice squad so we can keep him around for 2010. LB seems like a total crap shoot this year. It seems like we need Wilson to back up Orakpo in his new hybrid position. Fletcher, McIntosh, and Blades are obviously safe. The other roster spots are wide open. At WR, it seems like Roydell Williams has the inside track on the 5th WR spot. I'm thinking we keep 5 on the 53 man roster and stash 2 on the PS for when Moss and Kelly are inevitably injured. That looks like a 3 man competition between Jaison Williams, Keith Eloi and Marko Mitchell for two PS spots. Offense 24 QB : Campbell, Brennan, Collins RB:Portis, Betts, Alridge(or Dorsey) TE:Cooley, Davis, Yoder FB: Sellers C: Rabach, Williams G: Thomas, Dockery, Rhinehart T: Heyer, Samuels, Bridges, Williams WR:Moss, Thomas, Randel El, Kelly, Roydell Williams Defense:25 DT:Haynesworth, Griffin, Montgomery, Golston, Alexander DE:Daniels, Carter, Jarmon, Wynn LB:Orakpo, Fletcher, McIntosh, Blades, Fincher, Wilson, Thomas CB:Hall, Rogers, Smoot, Tryon, Barnes S: Landry, Horton, Moore, Doughty Teams: 4 Suisham, Cartwright, Rayner, Albright PS:8 Clark(G), Marko Mitchell(WR), Jaison Williams(WR),Eddie Williams(TE), Antonio Dixon(DT), Robert Henson(LB), Cody Glenn(LB), Rob Jackson (DE)
Sndman8369
Here's what i think, hope it works out this way: Offense 25 QB-3: Campbell, Collins, Brennan HB-3: Portis, Betts, (Dorsey, Aldridge, or Cartwright)-depending on who does better in preseason FB-1: Sellers WR-6: Moss, Thomas, Kelly, Randle El, Mitchell, J.Williams TE-3: Cooley, Davis, Yoder LT-2: Samuels, Heyer LG-2: Dockery, Reinhart C-1: Rabach RG-2:Thomas, Clark RT-2:Bridges, Williams Defense 25 LDE-2: Daniels, Jarmon DT-3: Griffin, Montgomery, Alexander DT-2: Haynesworth, Golston RDE-2: Carter, (Wynn or Jackson)- if Jackson shows he is better than he stays, no need to have 2 super aging vets if a young kid can play LB-2: McIntosh, Blades MLB-2: Fletcher, Henson LB-3: Orakpo, Wilson, Thomas CB-3: Rogers, Smoot, Tryon FS-2: Landry, Moore SS-2: Horton, Doughty CB-2: Hall, Barnes Special Teams 3 K-1: Shuisam-uggh P-1: Smith LS-1: Albright
theboomking
Sndman, I don't know how I didn't put Smith as our punter. Thanks for that correction. I would love it if Jackson beat out Wynn for the spot, but I have a feeling we are intent on keeping Wynn, just as much for his experience as his performance. We have two rookie DE's we are hoping will be our future starters/stars. Daniels, Wynn and Palermo make the equivalent of three position coaches for the young guys. That might not be so bad as long as noone snatches Jackson off the PS Do you think we're going to carry 6 receivers? There won't be six active for the game, so I think you could stash a couple on the PS. I think Cartwright is a lock given his consistently solid play, not just as a returner, but just as importantly on coverage teams. If Dorsey or Alrige stay, I think they will be in addition too, rather than instead of, Cartwright. I also think we need 2 centers on the active roster making Williams a likely bet to make the team. If Rabach goes down, you have to be able to snap the ball. I'm guessing we only keep two pure guards, Thomas and Dockery. Rhinehart ande Bridges can both play guard, giving us 4 options. We can stash Clark on the PS in case we need a body. The only way he makes the roster I think, is if Bridges is starting at tackle.
TGI Jef
just was writing this up at work based on word out of training camp (whatever that is worth), and came up with the following. if i added correctly, this is only 44 guys who i assume will def make the squad at this point, or at least seem very likely to. where do the final 9 come from? obviously one of them will be whoever wins punting job. leaves 8. any thoughts? QB: Campbell / Collins / Colt RB: Portis / Betts / Rock / Sellers TE: Cooley / Davis OL: Samuels / Dockery / Rabach / Thomas / Heyer / Williams / Rhinehart WR: Moss / Thomas / ARE / Kelly DL: Carter / Griffin / Haynesworth / Daniels / Montgomery / Golston / Jarmon LB: Rocky / Fletcher / Orakpo / Wilson / Blades / Fincher S: Landry / Horton / Doughty / Moore CB: Rogers / Hall / Tryon / Smoot / Barnes ST: Albright / Suisham / (punter) so, again that is 45 when you include whoever wins the punting job. leaves 8 (obviously), and my guess would be that these guys have the best chance to be included in those 8: Keith Eloi Yoder Rob Jackson speed back (Aldridge?) Wynn any thoughts? oibviously, more OL will be brought into the mix. i dont know a lot about some of the other prospects in camp at those positinos. looks like the Defense is very nearly set in my opinion, so a lot of chances for unknown guys on offense to step up. cant wait for preseason games to start. theboomking
Nobody is going to put Kendall or Runyan on the roster huh? I'd like to put in a vote for Kendall. Devin Clark has the look of a permanent PS player. If the O-line doesn't gel during training camp and the preseason, we may make a move to fortify. Going Commando
Well the preseason is almost over, looking back my predictions were pretty good even though they were super-early. I anticipated Thrash getting cut which was a nice call. Definitely didn't see Jansen getting cut or Jeremy Bridges getting signed, but I'm glad it happened. Also the Jarmon pick was totally surprising and awesome. I'll try predicting the roster once again with about a week to go: LS: Albright PK: Shaun Suisham P: Hunter Smith QB: Campbell, Collins, Brennan HB: Portis, Betts, Cartwright, Mason FB: Sellers X: Kelly, Thomas Y: Randle El Z: Moss, Mitchell TE: Cooley, Davis, Yoder LT: Samuels, Bridges LG: Dockery C: Rabach, Montgomery RG: Thomas, Rinehart RT: Heyer, M. Williams RE: Carter, Jackson LE: Daniels, Jarmon RDT: Haynesworth, Montgomery LDT: Griffin, Golston, Alexander SLB: Orakpo, Wilson MLB: Fletcher, Blades, Henson WLB: McIntosh, Fincher CB: Hall, Rogers, Smoot, Barnes, Tryon FS: Landry, Moore SS: Horton, Doughty We have to go 9 OL in order to keep Mason, and I think it's going to be hard to find spots for Aldridge or Dorsey. I want to have Dixon making it over Alexander but I don't feel too confident about that. Alexander can play some DE if things get hairy and also serve as an emergency 10th OL. I think we could go with 7 linebackers because Orakpo should be moving around so much. It makes sense to carry either an extra end or an extra LB because of that, so I have Henson making the cut even though he could very well end up on the PS. I think Brennan gets the #3 by a hair because Daniel can go on the PS. Other than that, everything looks pretty uncontroversial. EDIT: Well I just read that Fincher got cut which surprises me since I haven't heard much about Robert Thomas and Cody Glenn. I figured they would be the first two cut. That leaves one more roster spot open for my team which I guess goes to Glenn now. There isn't really any other good fit for a WILL in the linebacker corps except him and maybe Henson if (lord help us) McIntosh goes down.

Thomas for R. Cartwright). Both would see the bulk of their time on special teams. Cartwright is the better special teams player. I want Mason in case Portis goes down. I want Dorsey to run back punts. Wilson can be the other back up linebacker. Blades can play all three positions. Henson and Glenn for spot duty. If there's a serious injury to a starting linebacker, there are a number of good linebackers we could pick up easily. I am worried about o-line depth. We might need to pick up someone there. I have 4 RBs on my roster because of the talent at that possision. I'm a big Alridge fan, but I can't justify not putting mason on the roster; Portis and Betts are no brainers. I put Dixon on the roster instead of Montgomery because I think Montgomery has realized his ceiling and Dixon has shows promise. Westbrook makes the roster over Tryon because Tryon is down right awful and Westbrook is a sure tackler. Suisham makes the roster over Rayner by default. It was his job to lose, and I don't think Rayner got enough opportunity in game time situations. Although i love Rock, he is very expendable. He isn't a good enough KR to warrant a roster spot; he poses no threat to take one to the house. Although he is a sure tackler, one of the back up LBs can take his spot on special teams.
