Five things to address before saints game

I was thoroughly disgusted with the coaching watching the Giants game:

1) Jason Taylor was not ready for the game. His knee was clearly a problem.

2) Secondary dropped at least three would be interceptions

3) Giants could not be stopped on third down

4) Campbell and Redskin receivers must get passed the markers to get the first down (four times they were short on third down)

5) when we need a touchdown and/or have to get the ball downfield why arent our tallest (devin thomas) receivers on the field..remember thrashes dropped pass

All of this is basic coaching 101....things need to be addressed before 9/14

1) Luckliy he's got 10 days to heal it up more...

2) which means they are in teh right positions and will have the breaks come there way

3) Defense needs to tighten up on 3rd down.

4) At least they realize this now and can make adjustments

5) Thomas needs more reps than Thrash... hopefully his conditioning improved.

But, he had to keep up that consecutive starts record!!

2) Secondary dropped at least three would be interceptions

This is nothing new. They've been doing it for the past two years. And Rogers has been doing it since he got here.

3) Giants could not be stopped on third down

Couldn't exactly be stopped on first or second down either.

4) Campbell and Redskin receivers must get passed the markers to get the first down (four times they were short on third down)

Yea, you'd think that would be receiving 101, but apparently, not.

5) when we need a touchdown and/or have to get the ball downfield why arent our tallest (devin thomas) receivers on the field..remember thrashes dropped pass

Probably because he's a rookie. And he's barely 6-2. So its not like he towers over everyone.

It all boils down to 3rd down on both offense and defense.

The Saints have a very good offense - over 500 yards today against a pretty good Tampa D. Best way to defense them is keep them on the sidelines watching.

To do that we need to sustain drives which is going to involve converting 3rd downs. Their secondary is a weakness and if we can run the ball to control the clock and make them commit an extra guy that should give us some 1-2-1 coverage which we have to take some shots against.

On defense its means when we get the Saints into 3rd down we have to make a play and get off the field. That easier said than done though as Brees is one of the best around at getting the ball out of his hands quickly and is really hard to get pressure on. (Ironically he would be the perfect QB for Zorns O).

Its a tough assignment and we are going to have to score more than 20 points to get a win and also get some turnovers to give our O a short field to help the point production.

1. time management. when were down by two scores we need to work out of the no huddle

2. use shotgun. jasons seems to be much more efficient out of the shotgun

3. disguise the blitz and do it more often. we have no pass rush and need extra men to bring pressure.

4. start Evans on 1st and 2nd downs. jason taylor cannot stop the run

5. lower our expectations because this is gonna be a long season

Please, get off that Jason Taylor can't stop the run crap. Miami has been in the top 10 in defense 5 times since 2000. After 1 loss, its amazing how fans toss in the towel.

O-line definitely has some issues. Pretty soon they will be dispensing geritol in the locker room instead of power shakes.

All five items were on point in the original post. Zorn and the offense need to show some drastic improvement over the next couple weeks or the trips to Dallas and Philly will be downright embarassing!

I thought this thread was going to talk about, shutting the hell up while we are on offense, standing up, making noise, not making noise, not to boo any of our players, the jumbotron being a minitron, people drinking excessively and cursing and or being rude and starting fights, the opposing teams fans, the dallas fans in attendance (seriously ignore them they are attention whores... oh wait im on es) among several other hot topics here...

Our single biggest mistake that we made against the Giants was we didn't establish the run early on. I think Zorn just believes so much in the passing game he wanted to start off with it and get into a rhythm. Against a Dline like the Giants, he should've been calling runs, or at best, screen passes early on. I put that on Zorn.

He should've been calling plays to take the intensity out of a line that has so much to prove... but instead gave them the opportunity to tee off. Things could've turned out so much differently had we done this. In the 2nd half, once Portis had a few nice runs, the Giants weren't the same defense.

4) Was driving me crazy!! 3rd and 7 the pass goes 4, 3rd and 9 the pass goes 5!!!
