There will also be 2-4 compensatory picks which will make the total anywhere from 10-12. They'll no doubt use picks to move up n some rounds. Nobody has room for that many picks. This is from a recent article directly from the team.

* Just to clarify questions that have come in, the Eagles have draft picks in rounds one through five, and their own in round seven. They also have a sixth-round draft pick from Cleveland (from the Hank Fraley trade) and a seventh-round draft pick from Seattle (from the Josh Parry trade). That gives them a total of eight draft picks right now. The team should also receive anywhere from two to four compensatory picks awarded by the NFL (these picks cannot be traded) when the league announces those picks in late March/early April.

Adding Winston Justice to the deal should make it less appealing to the Cardinals I would think - are they really that stupid?
That's the part that scares me! If this happened it would be the biggest move thus far in FA and dwarf the Samuels signing.

And this is a BAD thing for the rest of the NFCE?
YES
Sure-this will be a BIG upgrade for their O, but now-they don't have much depth on the OL and secondary(and the Eagles sure could use their first day pick or 2).
THey can pick up the depth they need via second level FA's and the draft.
Won't happen. Not even the Eagles can absorb his monster cap hit and there is no way that Fitz would restructure to give that much cash up.
That was my first thought based on some of what I've read and can only hope to be true.:fingersx:

The reports that have placed Stewart Bradley as the starting MLB have all mentioned that Gaither would still receive extended playing time. He would remain the MLB in Nickel situations and would play on the weakside in certain situations as well. The idea would be for him to wait another year to take over Spikes' position on the weakside. Johnson has expressed his excitement over being able to orchestrate a defense with 4 starting-caliber linebackers.

I can't buy that the Eagles would suddenly become spend-thrifts after all these years of penny-pinching.

I very much hop that this is not true. Fitz on the Eagles would be a nightmare for the already beastly NFC East!

The Eagles have never actually been penny pinchers. Obviously that's always been a myth perpetuated by rival fans.

They have been largely abstinent from free agency over the years.

Eagles only penny pinch when it comes to WR's so, no way they get Fitz.

Justice's natural position is at RT(why Reid thought he could transition him to LT was pretty surprising).

With that being said-the Eagles will get the Pats treatment this upcoming season-the media will already be crowning them SB43 Champs way before the game even gets played. You watch it.

Justice got moved to LT because he is a blindside pass protector, and he blocked for a lefty at USC. He was very good when he played at the end of the seaosn... and the coaches did nothing to help him out... every time he lost to Osi was a 1 on 1.

If he goes to Arizona, then he blocks for Leinart again, and goes back to RT.

Levi Brown is already RT. Its one of the reasons he was drafted- they needed a tackle bad, and since they had a lefty, drafting a RT was the same as drafting a LT for most teams.

The rumor goes that the Eagles and Cards had a deal in place but that the Cards jacked up the trade return demand once the Eagles inked Samuel.

That the money issues had been worked out with Fitz's agent and that isn't what is holding up the deal.

And that the Cards are, so far without success, trying to work out a financial agreement that would enable them to retain Fitz and still give them some flexibility.

But that the possibility of a Fitz to Philadelpha deal is not dead, at least not yet.

Further, the Eagles have no interest in Javon Walker and only mild interest in Randy Moss.

As opposed to those of us who generally give evidence that the Eagles do penny pinch in the form of not using even close to their full cap space when in actuality only being 2-3 players away from the top of the league over the better part of the last decade, please shower us with evidence to the contrary.

Over the last few years, selectively informed fans such as yourself have frequently pointed out that the Eagles don't use all of their cap space. The issue, which most people who pay close attention to the league realize, is that teams are able to use their cap space until a bit past midway through the season. Frequently, the Eagles have not used all of their cap space during the free agency period, and many people call them cheap as a result, and then those same people fail to pay attention during the season when the Eagles use that cap space by giving long-term extensions to young players still playing on their rookie contracts.

That's how Reggie Brown makes more than 6 mill per years. Similar deals have been given to Sheldon Brown, Lito Sheppard, Mike Patterson, Trent Cole, Shawn Andrews, Greg Lewis, Brian Westbrook, Todd Herremans, and Donovan McNabb.

Throw in HUGE money free-agent deals with guys (with mixed success) such as John Runyan, Jevon Kearse, Darren Howard, and Asante Samuel, and it's plain to see that the Eagles have been more than willing to shell out the dough when they see fit.

I'm basing this on the fact that they have let many quality starters leave over the years when they were due big money, all while being tens of millions under the cap.

The two guys who have left and done very well are Roderick Hood and Derrick Burgess. I imagine you weren't talking about either of those guys.

The guys you are probably referring to-- Troy Vincent, Bobby Taylor, Michael Lewis, Corey Simon, Jeremiah Trotter, Carlos Emmonds, and Duce Staley-- carry a common theme.
