Belichick framed himself for cheating

The Patriots made some big-name acquisitions in the offseason. For example - Moss, Adalius Thomas, Welker, Stallworth. But would this mix of wealthy veterans work out? Pats also had some key injuries. For example - Seymour, Harrison. Belichick knew about these problems going into the season and envisioned a possible "let down" from his team.

Belichick framed himself for cheating by sending out a cameraman to get caught on purpose. He knew the NFL's penalty would be weak, and was willing to take the hit of a $100K fine. Belichick doesn't mind trading $100K for another championship.

Always looking for new ways to motivate his team, Belichick knew this would create the ultimate "us against the world" mentality for his team. And it did. The media turned against the Patriots, talking about "tainted championships". Players on other teams made public critical statements. This is exactly what Belichick had hoped for - more bulletin board material, and more fuel for the fire.

So far this tactic has worked as the Pats are well on their way to beating the Cowboys in the Super Bowl.

Yea, he thought a $750,000 total fine and the loss of a 1st round draft pick was weak...

There is no way Belichick cheated just to get caught. What if the NFL made the Patriots forfeit the game? What if they suspended him for several games? There is no way Belichick could have known what the NFL would do so there is no way he would take the risk of doing it.

The fine was a small percentage of his annual salary. He knew the NFL wouldn't forfeit the game or suspend him because it was first time any team was punished for this. The first penalty is always the least harsh. He was also taking advantage of a new commissioner who is hard on the players but easy on the coaches. The next team that gets caught will receive a far worse punishment.

If Dallas got caught-wow...it's not that THEY alone would get a stiff punishment all around(fines, an ENTIRE draft, maybe even key players be given to other teams, etc), but the ENTIRE TX footall image, from the pros all the way down to high school and pee-ee, would be TARNISHED.:2cents:

You...

Can't...

Be...

Serious...???

He gave up a No. 1 and 3/4 of a million Dollars to be considered a cheater and fire up his new acquisitions?

Good God man...

Don't wake up nurse Ratched...

Don't you think Stallworth, Welker, Moss, Thomas, etc. were a little fired up about their chances to now win that elusive Super Bowl?

Don't you think that just might have been enough motivation? Maybe, their head coach looking like a cheater didn't really help that much?

Wheeewwwwww.... :shot:

My theory: he cheated by accident. He is completely ignorant of how much he is actually cheating and is a mere puppet of Goodell, who is cheating for the Pats to give the league much-needed publicity. The Prime Minister of the UK is in on this, which is why they had to play a game in London to keep them quiet.

IT'S ALL A CONSPIRACY!

I reworded the title because it was misleading.

Well this thread got a few responses, all of which were sarcastic. What a big surprise. That is the nature of throwing crazy ideas out there.

Again, the fines were a small percentage of Belichick's salary. I think he was looking for some extra motivation. Critics will continue to dwell on the "cheating" incident, all the way through the playoffs and Super Bowl. Belichick will be laughing his way to another title.
