Cheers, Beers and Mountaineers
Historically some teams have had a great tradition at certain positions. Fielding Hall of Famers or outstanding players over the years. The Chicago Bears come to mind with Dick Butkus and Mike Singletary at middle linebacker, two Hall of Famers, and currently Brian Urlacher, who certainly is on his way to the HOF. Another team, the Steelers have a strong tradition of fielding great defenses, especially at linebacker with Hall of Famers in Jack Lambert and Jack Ham, in addition to several other noteworthy linebackers such as Joey Porter and Jason Gildon. Also, the 49ners have two HOF quarterbacks in Joe Montana and Steve Young, and to a lesser extent Jeff Garcia, who made 3 consecutive pro bowls and set a franchise record in most passing yards in a single season. So, which Redskins position do you think has been the strongest historically speaking? The Redskins have had Sonny Jurgenson and Sammy Baugh, both Hall of Famers at qb, as well as Joe Theismann who currently holds the team record for most passing yards total(25,206). Or perhaps at wide reciever with players such as Charley Taylor, Bobby Michtell, Art Monk, and Gary Clark. Santana Moss could be among those great Redskin wideouts. The seconday has also seen its share of great players in Darrell Green, Ken Houston, Champ Bailey and Pat Ficher. Sean Taylor and Fred Smoot possible candidates to be remembered in Redskins lore. Those are only three positions mentioned, but there have been many great players at other positions as well, so feel free to add them. I'm just lazy I would say the Wide Reciever spot has been the strongest with the players already mentioned above.

AllAboutSkins08
Offensive line, no questions asked. i agree, either OL or RB. our OL and RBs are usually feared since we stress a power running game most of the time.
apickmans
gotta agree with above. We had argueably the best offensive line in history, yet no HOF'ers. What a shame.

50GutCheck
Undoubtedly our historical emphasis on the Offensive Line has to be way up there but I would also add the Defensive Line to the mix.
The Rook
The Redskins do not have the same tradition of the other teams you named. But, we have had eras - Special Teams - under George Allen Field Goals - Mark Moseley Oline - the Hogs With the quick-change head coaching and the change of ownership, it is hard to develop the tradition of which you speak. BTW, you forgot to mention the Raiders vertical attack scheme. :helmet: The Rook

IWANTOBEGM
I think you have to go with oline seeing that we had the hogs for the three sb's and our line being the best group on the team today.

Cheers, Beers and Mountaineers
i think one can choose to look at this through different ways. you can look at the individual units as a whole, or you can look at the individual players. and indeed the OL has proven to be one of the best strengths on this team. Grimm
I would say O-Line, from Jansen and Samuels to the Hogs to Len Hauss and even further back, always seem to have had a good line.

Dan T.
I think the excellence of this position has been overlooked: CENTER The Redskins have had an amazing string of nearly 40 YEARS at that position. Jim Shrader played Center for the Redskins in 1954 to 1961, and was named to the Pro Bowl 3 times - in '58, '59, and '61. No drop off at all with Len Hauss, who played from 1964 to 1977. He went to 5 straight Pro Bowls between 1967 and 1972. He started 192 consecutive games for the Redskins between 1964 and 1977. Think about that - some 13 years straight in the trenches without missing a game! Then we had Jeff Bostic, from 1980 to 1993, one of the original Hogs. He was a solid player for many years on one of the best offensive lines in NFL history, anchoring the line for 3 Super Bowl victories. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 1983. That's almost 40 YEARS of outstanding play, with just a few gaps, at one position. :notworthy: Tough to top that.
D'Pablo
You guys are all way off... It's definately LBer. Even during our most mediocre times, we've had some really good to great players back there: Chris Hanburger, Ken Harvey, Sam Huff, Kurt Gouveia, Monte Coleman, Marcus Washington, Shawn Barber, etc...
