TE Wiggins To Be Cut

VIKES TO CUT WIGGINS

KFAN radio reports that the Vikings will release tight end Jermaine Wiggins. The veteran pass-catcher was a key performer for the Vikes under coach Mike "Meathead" Tice, but Wiggins got far fewer opportunities in year one of the Brad Childress experiment.

There are reports that the Vikings will target tight end Daniel Graham of the Patriots. We're told that the Vikings have no interest in either Eagles quarterback Jeff Garcia or Eagles receiver Donte' Stallworth, both of whom performed well last year in the same offense that the Vikings now use.

Also, keep an eye on cornerback Fred Smoot. He could be cut loose by the Vikings soon.

He would be the perfect TE for us.

That just confirms that the Vikings will go all out to sign Danny Graham from New England.

I don't really want Wiggins, he's an older guy and a receiving tight end. We definitley need a blocking specialist.

Maybe ole' Walter Rasby or Zeron Flemister are floating around

Or shoot, bring back Kozlowski.;)

I think Wiggins is the NFL's only TE that weighs over 300lbs. He was a pretty good pass catcher. He did pretty good against us when we played the Vikes last year. He's worth a look.

I disagree. TE is not a pressing need. We need not have a look at every "name" player just cause they become available.

Cooley and Wiggins fill the same roll in the offense.

What we lack, and what Fauria failed to bring to the table, is a blocking TE.

Yes.

One of the more distressing moments of last offseason for me was the Faura signing. Not so much the signing itself, but the way Gibbs and Co. kept referring to him as being signed "to be our blocking TE". Anyone familiar with Fauria knew he was much more of a receiver than a blocker. That made me wonder if anyone was doing any research at all before we signed these guys.

Why is it soooo difficult to find a blocking TE? Perhaps PFT was right when they said the skins would clean out the scouting department. Good blocking TE's can be found in the lower rounds.

Actually, at the combine, the announcers were lamenting the lack of blocking TEs coming out of college. I have a feeling it is a skill that isn't being stressed at a lot of schools anymore.

:applause: This is what I've been saying in all the other, "let's take a look or lets' get him in B & G" threads. This is insane how some people only use about 1% of the brain matter in their head.

He is also the only TE for us.

We certainly need another one. And even though Wiggins is a big guy' date=' he plays small (if that makes any sense).[/quote']

We signed Eric Edwards from Arizona in January. I think they are talking to Yoder about a contract also, but I don't have a link for that.

Anyone know where Robert Johnson ended up? I kinda liked that guy.

Wiggins is a BIG TE. If we could land him for a decent price that would be cool. it would be nice to have a blocking TE who could also catch passes if needed.

wishful thinking however as this will never happen

reguardless of his size, he is NOT a run blocking TE
