Muslim fun park day flop

A MUSLIMS-only day at Britain’s biggest theme park has been axed after a huge bookings flop.

Organisers Islamic Leisure had hoped to attract 28,000 people to the event at Alton Towers, Staffs, on September 17 — but less than 1,000 tickets were sold.

The fun day — exclusively revealed by The Sun — caused a race row after plans to ban mixed-sex rides, smoking, alcohol and gambling.

Non-Muslims were angered by the plans.

An Alton Towers spokesman said last night: “At least the park will be open to the general public.”

"We have arranged with Alton towers to ensure no music, gambling or alcohol is allowed on the day as well as segregated adult ride areas, halal food stalls & prayer areas. "

Yep ... that's what I look forward to in a theme park.

Well at least that kind of silliness wouldn't happen here ... :rubeyes:wait a second, not only is there a theme park especially for religious here, but the local legislators are trying to give a for-profit organization tax breaks to support it.

An opportunity for the Brits to photo-document 28,000 Muslims... and it didn't work? Oh well. Maybe they can set them up with a muslims only cruise.

Maybe it would have been a hit if they offered things like bumper car-bombs, flag burning courts, self flagellation flumes, swarming mobs to get swept up in, and a women's fantasy area where they can be treated like actual human beings.

Can you stay on point for three consecutive sentences? I read the article you linked to, and it didn't say anything about segregating adults or banning music at the Biblically themed parks. Are you so anti-religious that the mere existence of a religion-based theme park bothers you? (Tax matters aside, your use of the word "silliness" followed by "not only is there a theme park especially for the religious here" indicates that you think the existence of such theme parks is part of that "silliness.")

If you read your own article, you'll find that it calls the theme park in question "nonprofit".

The nonprofit, which would owe about $300,000 in property taxes each year, argued that the park helps finance its Christian ministry.

Besides, I think we can agree that the two situations are not even remotely analogous. The first is a case where organizers were attempting to impose (temporary) religious rules on a secular park, the second is a park which is religious as part of its business model. Surely there's no problem with niche marketing?

To have a situation worthy of comparison, we'd have to have a park like Disney World have a "Christian Day", in which the Pirates of the Carribean visit towns not to rape and plunder, but to pass out food to the needy and spread the Gospel.

You seem not to forget it...

Are you trying to tell us something Sarge?

This was a thread about religion and theme parks, and you bring this up. Just curious.

Because I knew you'd be happy to see it sweetcakes ;)

It was all for you.
