My question is how will Hendo close that distance? I think he gets torn up on the outside from the get go in this fight. Jones will have him off balance while landing anything he wants. Hendo barely even moves as it is, dear God. This is probably the most defined punchers chance of all time.

I will play devil's advocate, however. Remember that Jones has been tagged by two right crosses in his last two fights. Big shots, but you wouldn't know it by his reaction to them. Man has an iron head, believe that. I'm worried for my boy Hendo, but one thing is for sure, he will bring the intensity. If you aren't excited for this fight, then you'll be pleasantly surprised with the entertainment value. Hendo's experience rivals that of Ron Jeremy. He has balls made of train engine, a chin made of German tanks, and his aggression was taken from the soul of Wanderlei Silva.

You also have to factor in that Machida & Rashad probably have the fastest hands of anyone at 205, not sure Hendo will have the speed to sneak in a shot that Jones won't be prepared for. Rashad hit him clean a couple of times, and it didn't seem to bother him. I'm not saying Bones has an iron chin, but I'm fairly confident its not made by Jardine.

Henderson will be at a massive reach disadvantage (something like 13 inches), but he'll also be a speed disadvantage. Slow + short = what happened to Rampage.

The part of me that loves Henderson is hoping that Bones will choke Hendo out so Hendo can retire with the distinction of never being stopped on account of strikes. Big Nog almost made it, maybe Hendo can.

Well I'll put it this way, if Hendo is merely going to go into the fight looking just to land a big right hand, then I predict the fight will look similar to the Bones/Rampage fight, because really that's all it seemed Rampage was trying to do as well.

Henderson getting submitted is the most likely scenario IMO. Hendo will be tossing that right hand like crazy and if he doesn't land it in one of the first three rounds, then I think he will tire out and end up getting submitted in the championship rounds.

Also, if things get wild and Hendo did manage to drop Jones and finish him with strikes, I'm wondering if he's really up for defending the title however-many times. Although, I imagine if that did happen Jones would likely get an immediate rematch.

No matter what though, I prefer to see Hendo go out on a high note.

Sonnen and Anderson press conference is live right now 11AM ET

http://www.ufc.com/media/UFC-147-Special-Announcement-Press-Conference

And it is moved to 148 in Vegas. way to screw this one up Dana. I swear, ever since they signed the deal with Fox, it is as if all their other business takes a distant second place. How do you not know that there is a UN conference in town the same week you plan to go there? Even if you didn't check the UN website, or a local Rio event calender, you would think that before announcing a big fight you would check to see what hotel availability will be like that week? I'd expect this type of mess up from a smaller promoter, but not the UFC.

What makes no sense is that they will still go ahead with a 147 card in Brazil, but no Anderson at a smaller venue because 'the fight is too big", yet they move it to the MGM which holds less than 17,000. Something is fishy here. maybe Sonnen got scared or the Brazilian authorities would not give an exception for TRT or high Testosterone levels, but something ain't jiving with this load of BS from the UFC.

It's crossed my mind that Chael has perhaps received a ton of threats. Dana wanted to stay strong, but it was just too risky. Just a thought.

You can double up security measures. Once Chael is walking down the aisle, it takes a couple crazy ass Brazilian fans to start a mob scene.

Honestly I don't care. As long as the fight is still on, I'm happy. I just want to see the rematch.

btw, just saw this:

UFC 149: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs Cheick Kongo booked for July 21 in Calgary

Too soon?

It seems like it might be for heavyweight legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, who has his next fight booked for UFC 149 on July 21, 2012, at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

According to the Calgary Sun, "Minotauro" will be taking on 265-pound gatekeeper Cheick Kongo at the mixed martial arts (MMA) pay-per-view (PPV) event, the first ever in Calgary.

Nogueira will be making his return from a broken arm suffered at the hands of Frank Mir during their bout at UFC 140 on Dec. 10, 2011, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. That means just seven months after he had a titanium plate and 16 screws put in his arm, he'll be banging it out with a French knockout artist.

Doctors did say that he could return as soon as six months after surgery if all went well. Apparently it has and he's headed back to the Octagon for more punishment. Or glory. Perhaps both, even.

Star-divide

Standing in his way is a chiseled 6'4'', 230-pound beast named Cheick Kongo, a kickboxer who was last seen getting his lights turned off by another former PRIDE great, Mark Hunt.

Prior to that, the French fighting sensation had put together a pair of impressive victories over Pat Barry (one of the craziest knockouts of all time) and Matt Mitrione. In doing so, and then losing to Hunt, he simply reaffirmed his status as the heavyweight division's gatekeeper.

And a perfect fight for Nogueira to come back to.

UFC 149 is expected to featured a main event of Jon Jones defending his light heavyweight championship against former Strikeforce 205-pound titleholder Dan Henderson. The bout has not been signed, however, but is strongly rumored to headline the event.

Jose Aldo was originally announced as defending his featherweight belt on the show but UFC President Dana White has said he could be moved to the UFC 147 fight card taking place on June 23 in Brazil.

Seems like an early return for Nog. Either way, I seriously think Nog can hurt him standing, Kongo's been hurt in so many fights recently. And if it goes to the ground, RIP Kongo.

I could see him getting a Brian Stann or Rousimar Palhares (assuming he heel hooks Belcher) to test him in the big leagues.

UFC Signs Former Bellator Champion Hector Lombard

By Ryan Bafaloukos - Intern

Earlier this week, the UFC announced the signing of Hector Lombard. Lombard is the former Bellator Middleweight Champion and comes into the UFC with a 31-2-1 record.

Apr 27, 2012 - The UFC middleweight division got a little deeper earlier this week when the UFC announced the addition of Hector Lombard. Lombard (31-2-1) is the former Bellator Middleweight Champion and is undefeated since 2006.

Lombard was one of the most recognizable fighters in Bellator. He joined Bellator in the promotions' inaugural season in 2009. Lombard stormed through the middleweight tournament, winning all three of his fights by knockout, eventually wining the middleweight title in June of 2009 with a fourth-round TKO victory over Jared Hess.

Lombard is know for his explosive knockout power and superior striking skills. Lombard has fined seven of his last eight fights, with six knockout in that span. Lombard holds the records for fastest knockout in Bellator history with his six second knockout of Jay Silva at Bellator 18.

The options for Lombard in the UFC are limited at least right away, as possibly the top six middleweights in the UFC are all booked for upcoming fights. Chael Sonnen challenges Anderson Silva for the UFC Middleweight TItle at UFC 148 on July 7th. Top contenders Chis Weidman and Mark Munoz clash on July 11th at UFC on FUEL TV 4, and coming up on May 5th, Alan Betcher and Rousimar Palhares battle on UFC on FOX 2

I think a perfect matchup for Lombard's octagon debut is Brian Stann. Stann is one of the best middleweights in the UFC and is coming off an impressive TKO victory over Alessio Sakara. Stann is the former WEC Light Heavyweight Champion and has won four of his last five fights in the UFC. Both men are standup specialists with extreme power and skill on their feet.

UFC fans are in for a treat whoever Lombard faces. He is a powerful fighter that can end a fight anytime. While Lombard's level of competition is questionable but his knockout power can make him a problem for the top middleweights in the world.

I think he'll struggle in the UFC. He's been fighting cans for a long time now, stepping up in competition might be a shock to his system.

I agree, I think his first couple of fights in the Octagon will be big dissapointments, look at the last MW champ from another promo, Jake Shields- who looked like crap against Kampmann, even though he still won. I can see him struggling in his first couple of fights before he gets used to the competition.

my picks:

Miller over Diaz: I haven't learned to stop picking against Diaz brothers.

Hendricks over Koscheck: Hendricks is a small WW, but he is one of the more credentialed wrestlers in MMA. This one probably stays standing, Hendricks has heavy hands and Kos has **** defense, recipe for a knockout.

Belcher over Paul Harris: Belcher is the much better striker, and I think he's quick enough to get away when Palhares starts diving for the legs. I know its cheating, but I'd would oil up my legs before fighting Palhares'. Suspension>>>>>>torn ligaments.

Barry over Lavar Johnson: Johnson is a good story, and he has the power to KO anybody, but this is a fight Barry should win. He has massive speed & technique advantages in the fight. Can't see this one going the distance.
