Showtime Sports won't let a dispute with its former mixed martial arts promotional partner keep it from broadcasting the sport as soon as January, SI.com has learned.

The premium cable network, in conjunction with Golden Boy Promotions, will distribute and produce Affliction's Jan. 24 pay-per-view card topped by a five-round fight between WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko and former UFC titleholder Andrei Arlovski.

Official announcement will come Monday, confirmed Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio.

In addition to Emelianenko-Arlovski -- a first meeting for Europe's best heavyweight mixed martial artists -- Matt Lindland is set to fight Renato "Babalu" Sobral, both of whom reigned victorious in the promotion's debut on July 19. Vitor Belfort, also a winner on the summer card, is expected to fight, though a rumored bout with Dream 2008 middleweight grand prix champion Gegard Mousasi appears unlikely, said Atencio.

The evening's undercard, headlined by a light heavyweight tilt between Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Vladimir Matyushenko, will air uninterrupted on HDNet. Kiril Sidelnikov -- whom Atencio referred to as "Baby Fedor" despite the fact the Russian has two losses in six fights compared to his fellow countryman's one defeat in 30 -- meets slugger Paul Buentello as well.

Additional fights will be announced next week.

Showtime, which first offered MMA in January 2007 as a stakeholder in ProElite, announced earlier this month an auction of the failed company's assets to recover collateral after two promissory notes totaling $4 million were defaulted upon. Executives at the network have declined comment on ProElite's failure or the auction, which ProElite hopes to avert through fundraising or negotiation but may ultimately avoid by filing for bankruptcy.

The auction notice also prompted industry agents and managers to issue a joint statement in opposition of Showtime's maneuver making certain ProElite fighter contracts eligible for sale. The overriding belief is fighters should be freed from their deals after ProElite was in breach.

UFC 91: "Scorpion King 2 Failed, Will Fight for Money", predictions:

Dustin Hazelett vs. Tamden McCrory - Couple of young 22 year olds here. Dustin is automatic with his jiu jitsu. Tamden is long and lenky (a 6'4" welterweight) with snappy takedown defense. Hazelett, even at 22 years old, has an experience factor over McCory. I think he'll be able to eventually drag Tamden down and overwhelm him with sub attempts or simply lock in to something on the way down. If Hazelett wins this convincingly, watch out in the next few years for this kid. His stand up game is certainly formidable for a 22 year old jiu jitsu black belt. Hazelett, Beard choke, Rd 2.

Nate Quarry vs. Demian Maia - Nate is underrated, but certainly not with his taunting if you keep avoiding conflict. Maia will come to fight, but this is a huge step up in competition for him. Quarry is head and shoulders above Maia with striking, but on the ground Maia will have what seems to be a clear advantage. The problem for Nate is that he hasn't fought one grappler in the UFC. That's 4 years without fighting a ground specialist. It depends where this fight goes. The best bet for Maia is to lull the strike-happy Quarry to sleep (please God, not Kalib Starnes all over again!). Get the fight to the ground and give yourself a chance, Maia. Because I'm betting against you, but think you have a shot. Quarry, TKO, Round 3.

Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Josh Hendricks - Here is Dana trying to spoonfeed the guy that put a Hellfire Missile in to Cro Cop's ear cavity. People have discounted Gonzaga, but let's remember he lost a fight to the champion, Randy Couture, even though Randy got his arm broken by a CRAZY kick from Gonzaga. And then he lost a second straight to Fabricio Werdum, who was locked in to a groove and comfortable with being quick and skinny rather than slow and big. Two of the top three guys in the division at the time, basically. I think Gonzaga needs to get his confidence back after Randy threw him around. The look in his eyes hasn't had true ferocity since that fight. I think it's far enough in the past that he can refocus and beat a UFC newcomer. Gonzaga, KO, round 1.

Kenny Florian vs. Joe Stevenson - This is a great matchup. Both of these guys are very skilled on the ground. Yeah, BJ choked out Joe Stevenson, but that just goes to show you how hard it will be for any LW to grab the LW title any time soon. Florian wins this convincingly, he should fight BJ in the spring. I think he will. His thai is better than Joe's, his ground and pound is better. Fast, dynamic manuvering should be the theme of the ground battles, I think Kenny is just a little more savvy of a black belt. He'll get a dominant position and cut up that scar tissue that Rogan will be telling you about for a minute and a half during their fight. And I just thought of this, KENNY FLORIAN has a knack for !!!FINISHING FIGHTS!!! I like Kenny as an announcer and analyzer on ESPN, here's to hoping his credibility rises with a win here. Florian, fight-finisher 1000, round 2.

(Heavyweight Championship) Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesnar - Randy is a great wrestler, let's get that straight. Brock LOOKS like a force of nature, but Randy is behind George St. Pierre as the most savvy wrestler in MMA. Randy, at this point, is a programmed machine of fighting. He knows when to break clinches to throw strikes, and he knows where to throw them with clean technique. He always stays a step ahead. Brock is a sprinter. We saw him come out like a bolt of lightning against Frank Muur, and we saw him come out and flip Herring right off the bat with a straight right hand. But what he didn't do to Herring was put him away. We saw Brock's lack of offense on the ground when it got in to the second round. He had dominating positions and didn't know how to get the best of them. The biggest risk to Randy is Brock getting side control or mount. Might as well call the fight, because Randy isn't pulling any knee bars on Lesnar. I've been back and forth on this...mostly leaning towards Lesnar. I will be openly rooting for Randy like he's the Washington Redskins, and right now, I think Randy will find a way to wear him down. Lesnar doesn't have a lack of conditioning, it's just that he's such a big guy. Like Ramblin' Rogan said about Sokodjou, it takes a lot of oxygen to supply blood to big muscles like that. Randy can confuse him, frustrate him, tire him out, he's got more advantages than Brock, more experience. If Brock wins, I don't expect it to be past round 2. Randy Couture, figure four leg lock, round 3.

UFC 91: "Scorpion King 2 Failed, Will Fight for Money", predictions:

Okay. First off- Single best predictions title EVER. Strokes. I'm floored. Secondly- You are on a roll. Your commentary for each call is in the zone, Holmes. Hilarious stuff. :)

I'm not even following that with any cute crap of my own. I'll keep it simple.

Dustin Hazelett vs. Tamden McCrory - Hazelett, simply due to familiarity. I think I saw Barn Cat (killer nickname) in the IFL but can't remember if I was impressed.

Dustin subs him in 2.

Nate Quarry vs. Demian Maia - I think the Rock is rated right about where he belongs. Doublestroker makes a great point about his inexperience against groundgamers in the UFC so in my mind that makes this fight 50/50. I'm going with Quarry but I think it will go the distance unless Maia tries to test Nate's power.

Nate by split decision.

Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Josh Hendricks - Napao better impress and I hope he knows it.

Gonzaga, RNC in round 2.

Kenny Florian/SkinsOrlando vs. Joe Stevenson/Chachie - All I can say is Go Daddy Go. This is a situation where Lando took the Flo against Huerta to reverse the fortunes of our sig bet war and he hasn't let me off the cage floor since.

Stevenson by americana? :silly:

Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesnar - There is no way on Earth that I can root against The Natural. This is as close as MMA gets to Rocky Balboa vs. Ivan Drago. I'm terrified for Randy but if he gets out of the first round, he'll win that fight by a mile. No way Brock Lesnar goes 5 rounds. Nope. Not happening. But like I said- IF Couture survives the first.

Captain America. I don't know how he's gonna do it but I've got to stick with the legend until he falls.

Dustin Hazelett vs. Tamden McCrory - Winner: Don't give a flying scissors butt pinch

Nate Quarry vs. Demian Maia

Winner: Quarry by TKO 2:35 into the 2nd round

Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Josh Hendricks

Winner: Gonzago by TKO 4:15 into the 2nd round

Kenny Florian/SkinsOrlando vs. Joe Stevenson/Chachie -

Winner : SO AND THE FLO -TKO 2nd round, wicked elbow strikes during some ground and pound

Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesnar -

Winner - Couture by TKO 4th round

I think Randy gets crafty and drags this fight out until Lesnar starts to tire, then he turns it on. I think we'll see some very good dirty boxing and clinching with some quick breaks from Randy early in the fight. Lots of movement, forcing Lesnar to labor around the cage. Other than Chuck Randy's not been knocked out so I expect Lesnar won't be able to rock his chin. Lesnar has a chance if he canget Randy on his back and can actually throw some dominant strikes. However I just don't see it happening, Lesnar doesn't have the experience IMO yet in this game.

Kenny Flo vs Big Daddy - I got Big Daddy putting him in a guillatine choke. There is NO way I see Florian beating him on the ground.

Brock vs Randy - Randy like a mug!! He is going to outwork, out think and basically out everything this rookie brute until he wears him down. I can actually see this being a boring fight if Randy stays on the outside.

UFC 91: "Scorpion King 2 Failed, Will Fight for Money", predictions:

instant classic :applause:

my predictions:

Dustin Hazelett vs. Tamdan McCroy: Hazelett has the best BJJ at 170 in the ufc. he came as close as i've seen in MMA to finishing a fighter with an omaplata his last fight against burkman. he needs to watch out for McCroys freakish reach. eventually this fights goes to the ground and McLovin catches The Barn Cat in some sort of pretzel like submission

Hazelett by Submission, 2nd Round

Gabe Gonzaga vs. Josh Hendricks: Hendricks best hope is drag Gonzaga into deep waters. unfortunately i don't think he can. gonzaga is the better striker and ground fighter.

Gonzaga by TKO, 1st Round

Nate Quarry vs. Demian Maia: Nate would be a fool to even think about going to the ground against one of the absolute best submission practioners in the world. Nate will do everything humanly possible to avoid the ground. Maia will try to use strikes to set up a takedown, if that isn't successful early, Maia will be smart enough to pull guard and get the fight into his arena. should be a tough fight for Maia, but this fight will hit the ground and Maia will show why he's one of the very best on the ground.

Maia by Submission, 2nd Round

Joe Stevenson vs. I Finish Fights: Florian has the edge standing, i give florian a slight edge on the ground but its close. Joe needs to avoid those hellbows Kenny likes to throw so his face won't look like a repeat of the Penn fight. Joe's a much better wrestler so he may be able to get a couple of takedowns and maintain top position for points. i see Kenny's cardio being the main difference in this fight.

I Finish Fights by Split Decision (at which time Kenny retires the nickname of I Finish Fights due to his inability to finish in back to back fights)

Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesnar: randy defies all sorts of common logic. at the age of 40+ he's beaten huge guys in Timmay and Gonzaga. the difference here is that Brock is 10x as athletic and is possibly a better wrestler than Randy. Randy will be outweighed by about 50lbs when they enter the cage, and he may still actually be slower than Lesnar. Lesnar's chin has yet to be tested, i think Randy will try some dirty boxing, but Randy will want to make sure he doesn't get hit by the hams that are Lesnar's fists. i think this comes down to who ends up on their back first. we've never seen brock on his back, but its hard to imagine he'd be comfortable there. Randy has never been that good off his back, if he's placed there he could be in alot of trouble. Randy only has 2 subs in his career, both being over non-descript opponents. i think the 1st round is a feeling out process for both fighters. Lesnar takes randy down in the 2nd and stops him.

Brock Lesnar by TKO, 2nd Round

randy has to show his age sometime, and i got a sig bet with 99

age vs inexperience. which do you think will matter more?

personally I havent seen Brock do anything impressive outside of that ONE punch on Herring who is 2 fights away from being a tomato can anyways in my opinion.

That being said, if he catches Randy with that he won't make it long either. Just dont know if Randy ever tires or slips up.

i keep thinking about Randy's fights with Barnett and Ricco, big guys who had some wrestling experience, both gave him hell. i won't be shocked at all if Randy wins, i just don't think he will

Maia by Submission, 2nd Round

This is true. Maia is amazing at BJJ, he's won Submission of the Night honors his last three fights. Nate needs to hurt him standing up, simple as that. I think he's game, but the fact that he's fought no ground fighters simply guarantees a W for Maia if it settles on the ground.

Hazlet over McCroy by sub

Maia over Quarry by Sub

Gonzaga by UD.

- I don;t know what to think of Gonzaga. Sometimes he looks like a force and sometimes he looks like he doesn't want to be there.

I think Florian will have the same strategy he had with Huerta: do anything he can to not finish the fight and out-point his opponent instead. Stevenson won't stand for it though

Big Daddy by Finish

I keep hearing that Lesnar's chin hasn't been tested and I keep saying he has taken enough concussion inducing chair shots to test his chin. Randy's only chance is to turn this into a boxing match. Randy has been saying he has a better clinch and can put Brock on his back. This tells me that Randy is underestimating Brock. I don't care who Randy brought in to spar with; they weren't Brock. Randy also said he thinks he is faster than Brock. I'm not so sure about that either. This is a strength vs. strength match and Brock is the stronger, better wrestler.

Brock by Shooting Star press into the front row after he tosses Randy into the crowd.

Big Mike, have those PBRs ready for the Skins game tomorrow. I think I'll be in a drinking mood. (and no text messages tonight. I won't be watching live. stupidlousystinkingwork....)
