Essential albums

Spaceman Spiff

Recommended Posts

Not to be confused with favorite albums. For example, your favorite albums might be "Totally Krossed Out" by Kris Kross and "The One That You Love" by Air Supply, but that doesn't make them ****ing essential albums that everyone should own (yes, I'm talking to you PleaseBlitz).

So what are some albums that EVERYONE should own?

Californication- RHCP (although I'm pretty sure everyone DOES own it)

Sticky Fingers- Stones

So- Peter Gabriel

Appetite for Destruction- GNR

Nebraska- Bruce Springsteen

many others

(these aren't necessarily my favs, but they have got to be in any respectable music collection)

I probably would have picked Born To Run as Springsteen must have, though I absolutely love Nebraska. Maybe Born In The USA but radio play killed that album for me.

The same could be said for Legend (Bob Marley) which I picked. I'd much rather have Uprising, Exodus, or Songs of Freedom than Legend.

Double Live Gonzo - The Nuge

Steely Dan - Gold

Unleashed in the East - JP

Buffett - Songs you Know by Heart

We're all Together Again for the First Time - Dave Brubeck

His Epic Hits the First 11 - Merle Hagard

I guess I have a lot of greatest hits albums. You get a good sampling of a musicians work, without having to own so many albums. Works for me.

Believe it or not, I was extremely selective. Albums would come to my head like Built to Spill's "There's Nothing Wrong With Love," which I can't imagine not including in my record collection. But I came to the conclusion that's more of a personal selection than a universal essential.

Mr N. that list...explains alot of your comments in the AI thread. ;)

I did say

...you'd probaby say, "if that's what you like, what makes you think you can judge a singing contest." And in reality, there's probably some truth to that. With the notable exception of my love for 70s soul, most of the music I listen to doesn't have particularly good singing, in the technical sense.

So, you can't say I didn't disclose this weakness.
