  1. I think the move to not do training camp in Richmond this year is in direct correlation to the stadium deal.
  2. For those upset about the selection of Mathis and using the argument that it was a need we created by not resigning Settle/Matt. I think the likely reason they didn't re-sign is because of their roles here. If either player thought they'd have opportunities with another team for more playing time, it's a way more attractive option because it gives them the opportunity to earn more money down the line, even if it was the same price offered to stay here as a backup. We ran into the same problem signing depth DEs last season, guys don't want to be stuck behind Chase and Sweat. That's why we traded for the extra 7ths to get the rights to draft backups Shaka Toney and WBK This on top of not being able to pay all four of our 1st round DL talent made this a much bigger need than people make it out to be. It's actually very smart, Ravens-level draft strategy. You draft the guys before it becomes a need, not after.
  3. You're way behind. I've already declared this draft as the best in franchise history. But seriously, I think we got 5 players that will all contribute immediately. Even if they aren't superstars that's one hell of a draft. If one of the two sevenths pan out it's icing on the cake. It becomes greatest of all time if Sam Howell develops into a starting QB.
  4. "A really surprising late eval, Tre Walker is a seasoned linebacker with insane levels of production during his four years in Moscow. Ultra-physical and brimming with power, Walker flies into every tackle with a blatant disregard for his or his opponents’ welfare. The former Vandal matches that intensity and play strength with good on-field intelligence, reading his keys well, identifying what the offense is up to pre-snap, and navigating to the football quickly and effectively. Walker displayed a little less mobility than desired, and is probably best with a limited portfolio of pass coverage duties at the next level. His performance throughout the week at the Shrine Bowl showed he wasn’t out of place amongst a higher calibre of talent, and whilst there will undoubtedly be a period of acclimation, Walker has the tools to be a future starting Mike linebacker in the NFL.” Both our UDFA LBs getting some love depending on where you look. Walkers production in college was absurd.
  5. Tre Walker – Idaho Tre Walker has been a star in the making for the Vandals defense since he made his debut as a freshman against Eastern Washington, a game he recorded 8 tackles in. After playing all 11 games for the Vandals in his freshman year, recording 41 tackles and a pass break up, Tre started all 12 games as a sophomore. Tre’s sophomore year in 2019 was simply fantastic, he ended up on HERO Sports Sophomore All-America First Team and Second Team All-Big Sky. Playing as an inside linebacker for Idaho, Tre is an energetic player who is all over the field on every play. It’s clear his fellow teammates feed off his energy and he’s a player who will give 110% on every single down of the game. Playing as an inside linebacker, Tre has become a tackling monster. He ended his sophomore year with 138 total tackles and the followed that up with 54 total tackles in just 4 games during the shortened Spring season of 2021. During this season he earned 5 All-America honors including with the Associate Press, Stats Perform, Hero Sports, and Phil Steele FCS. Walker has the potential to be the next big prospect that comes out of a small school. He has unlimited and unrivaled energy on every play, can rush the quarterback, drop back in pass coverage, has great ball tracking skills, and I feel like you’d struggle to find a better tackler in the entirety of college ball. Still can't find any measurables for this kid.
  6. Hmm. Got some sneaky athleticism too. Notre Dame website actually stated his 40 time was 4.65/4.69. What stands out is the elite 10 yd split and sub 7 second 3-cone times. Can see why we picked him up. Maybe it was Tre Walker the other LB I had trouble finding info on.
  7. Were you able to find his pro day results? I remember it being hard to locate when I googled it the first time. I know he's highly regarded by his teammates. Seems like a high motor, film room junkie type. Could see him being a Will Compton level backup
  8. I'm gonna get B&G shirts made up that says WHO'S THE BUFFALO NICKEL??? In bold on the front.
  9. Didn't re-sign. He was on a one year deal. No snaps for him now with Dotson drafted and a hopeful second year improvement from Dax Milne as your backup slot WR.
  10. I think whats nice about our roster is we can be either pass heavy or run heavy depending on opponent and situational football. If we identify front seven weakness, we can go heavy run ratio gameplan with the run setting up the deep ball for our speedy wideouts. Vise versa, if we see DBs we can exploit, we can start the gameplan with a ton of short passes and passes out of the backfield to Curtis/Gibby/McKissic to put the ball in the hands of our YAC guys. Get up by 10-14 points early? Switch to TOP control ball and let our defense unleash the pass rush. The "positional flex & versatility" team building philosophy is really starting to take shape.
  11. I don't know about the clutch narrative. I think he's just a risk taker. He tries to be clutch and sometimes he wins, sometimes he fails. Against us early in his career I remember Wentz vividly escaping what looked to be a guaranteed sack, only to pop out of the pile and throw a bomb down-field. That's "clutch" play if you ask me. What's exciting to me is it's unknown how much of the hero-ball he played could be due to the pressure he took upon himself due to not having an arsenal of weapons. Hopefully we can encourage him to trust our receivers, backs and TE to make plays for him instead of trying to make them himself. We don't even need his near-MVP season level of play. If he sniffs even 75% of that season we will be a serious threat. If we can start games hot and get up by 10 points, I think our defense will be dominant. Del Rio can be more aggresive.
  12. Jones is interesting. Sucks they signed Kwiatkoski. I liked him for us. Jones fell off a cliff last season, seemed to give up on the falcons. Wonder if that's a red flag for Rivera or a prime reclamation project. Dude was up there with Luke his first few years.
  13. I don't understand how the same defense from two years ago, with way more talent wouldn't return to form. I fully expect top 10. With a huge uptick in sacks/pressures due to a combination of player development & playing with a lead more often. I don't want to hear any excuses about how an entire defense sucks because a couple players didn't show up for the first week of OTAs. I want to see Chase and Montez eat, Allen continue his dominance. And situational players like Mathis and Toney combine for 5 sacks. My wonder is what we will see scheme wise. More buffalo? Was the lack of running base 4-3 due to not having the personnel? How much man vs zone will we run? And who will be starting outside vs in the slot (does St.Juste emerge?). Icing on the cake is if we hit on one of our UDFA or our 7th rounder Holmes.
  14. I think the mindset was they couldn't believe Howell was falling, but they were also targeting Cole Turner. So instead of taking Howell in the 4th and Turner not making it to the 6th rounder... they looked at who was picking after them.... And traded to the first pick in the 5th round. Then used the second 5th on Turner. Marty and Ron both said the meat of the draft was through the fifth round and I think their players in that 5th round range were starting to dry up, which is why they positioned to make the two picks in the top of the fifth. Just my take on the situation.
  15. I think if we hadn't made the Wentz trade the plan was to pair Sam Howell in the 2nd round with a journeyman veteran. What we ended up with is an even better situation, IMO. Howell is exciting because his flaws are all fixable. He has the tools. I like Alexander and Kwiatkoski 1a and 1b. Low key I'd love a Will Compton reunion, only because I know it would result in some of our players ending up on his Bussin with the Boys podcast.
  16. I hope we're right and they are wrong but I really hate that we missed out on some big name UDFAs. Smoke Monday I can understand because of the character concerns. But Kevin Austin, Justyn Ross, Markquese Bell, JoJo Domann, and the LB the Cowboys stole from us.... I'm gonna be mad if any of those guys pop. I like the names we picked up too though, especially Ferrod Gardner and the DB from VA State, McMorris, Tre Walker, the ND linebacker.... But man there were some household names still available after the draft we missed on. Gonna give our scouts the benefit of the doubt for now.
  17. If Wentz is middle of the road, Alex Smith (chiefs) level ... Does the plan pivot to just letting him play out his current deal with intent to play Howell when he's ready? I guess it depends on Howells development and Wentz' level of play.
  18. Enjoy the analysis and agree with some of it. But I disagree on him being "one and run". He's one of the only QBd in the class that I saw get to his 3rd read multiple times. He has the arm talent and intangibles to be great when surrounded by a good supporting cast and an O-Line that can actually block. He just needs seasoning with a QB coach and a lot of time practicing being under center. His main flaws are mechanics. He can heel-click at times pats the ball as well.
  19. Interesting candid quote from the Bears GM on this year's receiving class when asked why they didn't trade up for Watson or Pickens: “The truth is that while many were calling this draft deep at wide receiver, the Bears (and several other clubs) didn’t particularly agree with that assessment. They rated (Garrett) Wilson, (Jameson) Williams, and Olave highly, the latter being their top player at the position. They liked the polish of (Jahan) Dotson and thought Burks might have the highest upside in the class. But they knew they were not in play for any of those players, and saw the gap between that group and the next group as cavernous.”
  20. Don't really understand the Ron hate. He's changed the culture while simultaneously fighting cancer and with an organization constantly under fire. Don't agree with horrible roster management either. We've been one of the better drafting teams and the few free agent moves we've made have hit big for the most part. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt because he said himself when he was hired that it takes 3 to 5 years to change a culture of a team, and has publicly stated he expects a big jump in year 3. If we bomb this year, then I can understand some backlash... But as of right now, we should feel lucky to have Ron as a coach. People are really up-in-arms over them letting Settle and Matt Io walk I guess? Or maybe people assume "same old Redskins" because Terry isn't signed yet (even though it's been repeatedly pointed out the plan has always been to sign him around Training camp just like Allen)? It's not the teams fault the Jaguars reset the WR market. If we had signed Terry to a deal well under market value he would've been holding out a couple years into it for being underpaid anyway. People act like we could've resigned him for pennies if we acted sooner and "it must mean we're gonna franchise him twice and let him walk!" What's even funnier is that fans of this team should know what horrible roster management looks like by now, and this sure as hell isn't it.
  21. Yeah he's actually listed as a Safety on the teams UDFA signings announcement.
  22. I also liked how highly he spoke of Ferrod Gardner at the end of the interview. Billy Napier said he thinks he makes the team. I mean there's a reason he was a priority UDFA over other guys. Excited to see both Cajuns play in the pre-season. Can't get here soon enough.
  23. I don't think Nakobe Dean will be as good of a pro, Logan Paulsen even said he questions how his game will translate to the pros. He had an all-time defensive line keeping him clean at Georgia as an undersized LB. I also think the fanbase way over-valued both Matt and Settle. The guy I worry we passed over is Leo Chenal. But I'm waiting to reserve judgement until I see Mathis' impact and if he improves our LBs as a result of his play.
  24. Money and Cap issues aside, the only reason I see them wanting to bring in Bradberry is if they think he allows us to play more man-to-man like we tried to do in the beginning of the season last year. How big of an upgrade is he over a year-2 Ben St-Juste? Do we trust Fuller to excel in the slot after playing so well on the outside last season? Lots of question marks surrounding this move.
  25. Even if it's not something we do often, just having that flexibility to run it occasionally makes the defense more lethal. The more we can disguise and do with our personnel the better. We can show cover two, hell, even cover 0 pre-snap... And Butler has the speed to bail to deep FS. Really excited to see how Del Rio plays with our weapons on defense. Hopefully we get creative. I want to see multiple safety looks and disguised coverages. I'd also like to see Shaka Toney deployed as a Bruce Irvin Rush-Sam backer, or at least just rushing from a two point stance more often all over the defense. Like a Micah Parsons blitzing role. He has the skill-set. Percy and McCain can both play slot. They say Percy can handle Buffalo Nickel. We know Curl can play Strong and Buffalo. Ferrod Gardner and Khaleke Hudson could get looks as Landon Collins replacements. We've got some really exciting personnel options.
