  1. As far as Metro & walking: you can combine the subway & some of the bus services (i.e., Metrobus, SW Shuttle, etc.) to get from point a to b (i.e., take the subway to L'Enfant Plaza, up the stairs to catch the free SW Shuttle to the Wharf). Get in the Christmas spirit at Ford's Theater "A Christmas Carol" - went last year & it was awesome. https://fords.org/performance/a-christmas-carol-2023/
  2. Thanks. Looks like Maryland doesn't recognize other states med card carriers. But, non-med products are much cheaper than RVA with a much better selection. I have to go to Annapolis tomorrow so I'm planning on hitting a couple of spots in Southern Maryland on the drive back.
  3. I have a question about the Maryland weed dispensaries: Looking at a few places in Southern Maryland I've noticed products marked "MED ONLY". What does this mean? Aren't all products available to anyone over 21yo?
  4. I'll echo using Metro & Uber to get around. Also toss in using the water taxi - it's a great way to see the skyline from the river. When we stay at the Wharf, we take it either to Old Town or Georgetown. If you haven't been to the Wharf since the days of Hogate's it's incredible to see the changes there. It's also a short walk to the Tidal Basin & Jefferson memorial from the Wharf.
  5. House GOPers gunning for Gaetz as ethics probe expands to 'broader range' of violations Rep. Matt Gaetz's (R-FL) role as the ringleader behind the ouster of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has created enduring resentment among more than a few of the Florida Republican's House colleagues who have grown weary of his grandstanding ways. According to a report from the Daily Beast's Sam Brodey, Gaetz's unpopularity among Republicans he serves with in the House has grown with one Republican telling the Beast, "There aren’t a lot of people who, you know, are gonna go out of their way to defend Matt Gaetz. I mean, he’s a pretty diabolical character.” Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE), who admitted Gaetz has almost been involved in two physical fights with colleagues, added, "The anger is pretty well with him. I just think there will be long memories because he did serious damage to our House conference.” One person who appears to be working behind the scenes against Gaetz is McCarthy, whom Brodey described as stalking "...the halls like a ghost determined to avenge his own murder. In interviews, McCarthy has kept alive the idea that Gaetz and his allies deserve punishment, warning gravely that the party won’t heal 'if there’s no consequences for the actions.'" McCarthy recently mentioned during a Fox News interview that Gaetz is still being scrutinized by the Ethics Committee, telling Maria Bartiromo, "Once that Ethics complaint comes forward, he could have the same problem as Santos and I think the conference would probably be better united to move forward and get this all done.” As the Beast's Brodey notes, McCarthy may have a point, reporting that "Ethics is looking into a much broader range of potential violations, many of which could be deeply embarrassing and reputation-harming for Gaetz—including an allegation that he showed inappropriate sexual content to colleagues on the House floor." https://www.rawstory.com/matt-gaetz-gop
  6. Democrats who swept Moms For Liberty off school board fight superintendent's $700,000 exit deal PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Pennsylvania school board that banned books, Pride flags and transgender athletes slipped a last-minute item into their final meeting before leaving office, hastily awarding a $700,000 exit package to the superintendent who supported their agenda. But the Democratic majority that swept the conservative Moms For Liberty slate out of office hopes to block the unusual — they say illegal — payout and bring calm to the Central Bucks School District, whose affluent suburbs and bucolic farms near Philadelphia have been roiled by infighting since the 2020 pandemic. “People are really sick of the embarrassing meetings, the vitriol, they’re tired of our district being in the news for all the wrong reasons. And … the students are aware of what’s been going on, particularly our LGBTQ students and their friends and allies,” said Karen Smith, a Democrat who won a third term on the board. https://www.yahoo.com/news/democrats-swept-moms-liberty-off-172605000.html
  7. Scoop: Tim Alberta book rips open Falwell feuds A forthcoming book about evangelicals by Tim Alberta — the acupuncturist-like reporter whose magazine profile doomed CNN's Chris Licht — includes detailed on-the-record allegations of drift and grift at Liberty University, founded by the late Rev. Jerry Falwell. Why it matters: The university in Lynchburg, Virginia — founded in 1971 by Jerry Falwell Sr., and formerly called Liberty Baptist College — once was an icon of New Right political power. It remains a popular backdrop for Republican presidential candidates. Alberta's book, "The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory," is out Dec. 5. Jerry Falwell Jr. — the founder's son, who once was Liberty's president and now has sued the university — tells Alberta the current regime is "choosing piety over competence": "It's exactly what my dad didn't want to see happen." What we're hearing: "The true history of Liberty, as I document in the book — through the eyes of Falwell family lieutenants who span the ideological spectrum — has everything to do with electing Republicans and winning culture wars and almost nothing to do with spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ," Alberta, a minister's son, tells Axios. Jerry Jr. repeatedly attacks his younger brother, Liberty Chancellor Jonathan Falwell, who's also the senior pastor at their dad's Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg. "I should have fired everybody in the top leadership the day I walked in — from vice presidents on down — and hired everyone new," Jerry Jr. tells Alberta. "You see, my dad didn't have the money back then to hire people who were honest and competent. So, he typically had to choose, one or the other. And those are the people who were still around when the school became prosperous." https://www.axios.com/2023/11/22/american-evangelicals-republican-candidates-liberty-university

  9. Still remember watching the principal coming to the door to tell the nun in my room. Both were crying. Then we got to walk home. I still remember seeing my mom in tears staring at the black & white tv. Kids were outside kind of lost because we didn't know wtf was going on. We lived about 2 miles from Naval Medical hospital were the President was taken.
  10. Good read on the Colorado case appeal to get the orange turd removed from the ballot. EXCLUSIVE: COLORADO APPEAL: SECTION 3 OF THE 14TH AMENDMENT I have obtained a copy of the plaintiff's 67-page appeal to the Colorado Supreme Court to keep Trump off the ballot pursuant to §3 of 14th Amendment of the Constitution before it hits the docket. As soon as I have a link to a court-stamped copy, I'll provide it. For now, I wanted to share with you some of the more powerful passages of this appeal. As you likely already know, the court ruled that Trump engaged in insurrection as defined by §3, but the court also found that the President is not an "Officer of the United States", and that the Presidential oath to "preserve, protect, and defend" the Constitution is not an oath to "support" the Constitution. "This holding was reversible error." So you're aware, the lower court made a FACTUAL finding (that Trump engaged in insurrection) and a LEGAL finding (that POTUS isn't an Officer of the US and the POTUS Oath doesn't say "support" like the 14th Amendment does). FACTUAL findings are tough to overturn, but LEGAL findings are more easily reversible. So that's what the plaintiffs are arguing for here. The stated issue now before the Colorado Supreme court is: "Did the district court commit reversible error in ruling that Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment, which disqualifies people who engaged in insurrection against the Constitution after taking an oath to support the Constitution, does not apply to Presidents who engage in insurrection or to insurrectionists wanting to be President?" "The court held that Section 3’s disqualification rule does not apply to insurrectionist former Presidents, nor to any insurrectionists running for President—in effect, that this office alone is above the law." https://post.news/@/MuellerSheWrote/2YTH5MQRNaRGhoFENTl0Y5OyBX2
  11. Donald Trump has worst day yet in NY civil fraud trial as underling's scribbled note ties him to conspiracy Donald Trump had his worst day yet in his ongoing civil fraud trial in New York on Tuesday at the hands of his own key witness, a former Trump Organization executive who linked the former president directly to the fuzzy math at the center of the case. The witness was Jeffrey McConney, who was the comptroller and spreadsheet czar at the Trump Org. McConney had been called to the witness stand by the defense, but on cross-examination by lawyers for the state attorney general's office Tuesday, he linked Trump firmly to the conspiracy and fraud counts that have yet to be decided in the non-jury trial. McConney was handed People's Exhibit 3054, a draft of Trump's net-worth statement for 2014. He was asked to look at a note scribbled in thin blue ink on the draft's first page, "DJT TO GET FINAL REVIEW," which he said he'd written. ... Starting with the damage to McConney himself, his blue-ink notations directly contradict his testimony from the prior day. The spreadsheet czar had testified on direct examination Monday that he would review each year's draft net-worth statement with Weisselberg, who would then give the approved draft to the outside accounting firm, Mazars USA, which would print the final statement. This chain of command — McConney to Weisselberg to Mazars — leaves out one very important link, as the state's lawyer, Amer, pointed out on cross on Tuesday. "I believe there was a step in between that involved Donald Trump prior to 2017?" Amer said to McConney, who appeared uncomfortable on the stand as he said Trump indeed did the ultimate signing off. https://www.yahoo.com/news/donald-trump-worst-day-yet-223034300.html
