For me as a teen in the 80s (also born Columbia Hospital for Women, btw) it really was about the music and the Skins. Dischord and Go-Go were the soundtrack. Old 9:30 Club, Wilson Center, DC Space, etc. Good times in the miserable Reagan era.

I was driving from NC to NOVA today, and while searching for sports radio I had the misfortune of hearing a snippet of right-wing bug****ery on the radio. The specific claim was that "the left's obsession with race is exactly the same as the Nazis'." The insect who spouted this did say "they're nonviolent though." But seriously, this created some I-95 despair beyond the usual. I mean, absolute insanity, through the looking glass madness. Break it down: the "left," in wanting to talk about the realities of racial injustice and the destruction of black bodies, is somehow replicating (albeit nonviolently) the logic of those who actively want to accomplish said destruction of black (and Jewish and Muslim and other) bodies. Conservatives have a LOT of soul-searching to do, that's all I'll say.

Still haven't mustered the courage to check out The Inhumans. BP preview = YES!!! Nice Gil Scott-Heron in the soundtrack, and some Jack Kirby-inspired settings in Wakanda.
