General Mass Shooting Thread (originally Las Vegas Strip)

Maybe a marriage or child tax? Instead of a tax credit, you pay more for each kid. Sounds ridiculous because it is. -

Can't leave Thanos out. But yeah, I agree. Hela was pretty BA as well. And what about the unforgettable Justin Hammer? -

Maybe if they invested more in gun safety instead of paying congressman err, I mean lobbyists. -
Not always though. I way outkicked my coverage (think somewhere between Natalie Wood and Angie Harmon) and at the time she was in a big university with well to do parents and I was making $9 hour and lived with my folks. It helped I guess that it was a blind date set up by mutual friends and I didn't pretend to be something I wasn't.

I know many good baptists and presbyterians from the Georgia region who would never consider being like this. I've also seen some churches that are run like a fiefdom. Absolute power corrupts. Its why I'm so glad my church has a plurality of elders where the lay elders (me) are equal to the paid pastors. Although then you have members trying to get you fired for discontinuing their sacred cow err... ministry program because it wasn't effective. But by far, the majority are sheep, not wolves. And for that I am thankful to God.

Luke 15:11-24 CSB [Jesus] also said: “A man had two sons. 12 The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate I have coming to me.’ So he distributed the assets to them. 13 Not many days later, the younger son gathered together all he had and traveled to a distant country, where he squandered his estate in foolish living. 14 After he had spent everything, a severe famine struck that country, and he had nothing. 15 Then he went to work for one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. 16 He longed to eat his fill from the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one would give him anything. 17 When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired workers have more than enough food, and here I am dying of hunger! 18 I’ll get up, go to my father, and say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. 19 I’m no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired workers.”’ 20 So he got up and went to his father. But while the son was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion. He ran, threw his arms around his neck, and kissed him. 21 The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. I’m no longer worthy to be called your son.’ 22 “But the father told his servants, ‘Quick! Bring out the best robe and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Then bring the fattened calf and slaughter it, and let’s celebrate with a feast, 24 because this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found!’ So they began to celebrate. I listen to God through His word, the bible. It's how He reveals Himself to us and speaks to us. I've never heard God speak audibly and prayer is our way of speaking to God. Even so, I've "heard God speak" through answered prayers (my recent knee injury inexplicably healed to the doctor's bafflement) and also through one's not answered (things I've wanted to do, but that would've been disasters because I wasn't ready to handle it). Just a suggestion: try to read the Gospel of John in the New Testament with an open mind. You may be surprised that Jesus meets you there and gives you the comfort you seek. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+1&version=CSB

I've heard that human existence can boiled down to 4 basic questions. Origins: Where do I come from? Meaning: Why am I here? Morality: How do I know what is good or evil? Destiny: What happens when I die? Your answers to these largely determine your worldview and ultimately guide your thinking.

I don't know about shot... all life is sacred. But I wouldn't be opposed to an old fashioned public flogging.

The immigration thread: American Melting Pot or Get off my Lawn
Zguy28 replied to Burgold's topic in The Tailgate
That's what I say when I read half of what's posted here. BUt yeah, I have never heard of it before. Looks like from what I've seen elsewhere (except a Salon article that stated roughly the same results and then said they didn't mean anything in reality), it is accurate on that poll. -

I've heard a lot of people saying it is bad or wrong to seek to reduce legal immigration levels. (I wonder if we are conflating "making it harder" with reduction?) According to a recent Harvard-Harris poll, a large majority of Americans of all political stripes and races are in favor of reducing legal immigration levels going forward. I'd have never thought that from what I see on the internet. https://www.numbersusa.com/news/harvard-poll-81-percent-all-voters-support-reducing-immigration-levels There is a link to the PDF of the raw results on the site. -
Looks like they found and arrested the woman who beat that 91 year old man with a brick and told him to go back to Mexico. No hate crime charges though. https://www.elpasotimes.com/story/news/national/2018/07/11/woman-arrested-brick-beating-91-year-old-hispanic-man-los-angeles/775683002/ The article says " The Sheriff's Department says the motive remains unknown. " Seems pretty clear what it was.

Trump supporters: "Ah, they were only naturalized. Probably under false pretenses. Deport them."
