  1. His bond has issues. Apparently the financial statements for the insurer weren't included. And they didn't get legal counsel approval from that company either....
  2. Started out rocky, but mainly because I have a little bit of a "being a prick" streak in me and they have caused all sorts of trauma for her that I have had to deal with (that she still doesn't seem to deal with that well). My wife was raised by her grandparents, and her "mom" is actually her step-mom. She didn't really find out until maybe 20? So that explained all the favoratism her brother received (plus Asian culture things). My real MIL apparently was mental and killed herself -- which I have always thought "did she really?"... but my wife has no desire to dig up that far into her background... They weren't over here. I met her grandparents and aunts and uncles so many times while we were dating. It's one of the better things about asian culture vs. my own family (but it could just be my family things). So many family gatherings. Her father though was originally against our marriage. Quickly though, when I met them, he changed his mind. We helped sponser them and brought them over. They caused so many issues for us... or maybe me.... which I never get any credit for dealing with. A totalled car, which my wife insisted we give them the insurance money, business stuff that went bad, etc. Fortunately that is all in the past. My father and her father share the same birthyear. My mother and hers also share the same birth years. Both of my parents have passed away, so they have somewhat become "surrogate" parents, but not really. I didn't learn their language and they don't speak english well (ironic since they received citizenship under Trump). As time goes on, you see what is important in life (at least most people do...). Your own parents pass away. You see grandchildren. Even later in life, perspective changes. We see them about once every couple of months - and I insist we keep meeting that way. I am happy to see them at peace with the little bit of life they have - both are still healthy in their 70s. Their life isn't all that great from my standards, but that is also something I have to work on. Her grandmother lived to 98 and they helped care for her (aunts and uncles have health issues). We figure, when one of them passes, the other will go to her brother's house.
  3. Nights like last night make folks say, "Why can't the kids be this consistent every night?". Granted, Lilliard wasn't playing...neither was Kuz. Is there something to playing Poole at PG that can grow/expand his game? Feels good to see the kid develop a bit.
  4. The reason is that Biden has a higher ceiling. As in, there are generally speaking, more Biden voters (81M). But Trump has a very high floor. As in, his 74M voters are locked in. It's not likely a Biden voter will switch to Trump. But, he needs to depress Biden's ceiling. Trump wins by convincing Biden voters to stay home or vote for someone else. So if RFK convinces 10% of Democrats to votse for him, Biden and Trump are tied. One of RFKs major talking points is "Today, I am leaving the Democrat party". He is aiming his campaign at Biden voters. In fact, he recently said Biden is more dangerous than Trump. Because Biden is censoring mis-information. For Dems, this is Ralph Nader all over again. Does Gen X have to explain this politically to Gen Z? Presidential elections are imperfect. Do the Dems who didn't support Hillary regret it? 3 Supreme Court Justices later... they better. Same thing with the uncommitted movement from pro-Palestinians. I am slightly less worried about the pro-Pakestinians, but they need to start recognizing Biden has moved US policy, and even if it is small steps, it's in the right direction. Come July, if the pro-Palestinian voters are like, "Oh - still not enough", I will be more concerned with them.
  5. Jack Smith tells Judge Cannon both of her proposed jury instructions are defective and he will go for "mandamus appeal" if she issues either. https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/24529674-sco-response
  6. The 2nd part of the documentary provided evidence that the burning and beheadings of babies and families, plus the accusation of systemsatic rape are likely not true. The one represnentative they interviewed when claimed "they cut a pregnant womans stomach opened and killed her babie". Said he would provide a picture. He did so off camera and the interviewer basically said, "it looks like a piece of flesh" - not a baby. It was just the woman. Israel spread these lies around to justify them bombing the heck out of Gaza. I mean, its not like it wouldn't have mass support. But, let's dehumanize Palestine. Either way, this conflict is a loser for all around, except perhaps Iran. How do you make peace with murderers? Ceasefire for the hostages. Netanyahu needs the war so he stays out of jail. Neither side will win in the long run.
  7. @Fan since a Fetus https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/It's_the_economy,_stupid Not directed at you....
  8. I watched about half of the October 7 documentary, produced by Al Jazeera. I fully understand AJ is state funded media by Qatar and likely more sympathetic to Hamas. But, it's a very well organized picture of what happened. It is violent and used Hamas body cams (explicit stuff is blurred). I do know that what caught my attention were media articles talking about claims that Israel kllled their own civilians. Of the 700+ civilians killed, I think it was about 5% or so killed by Israeli response. Israel just killed aid workers provided from a famous chef's kitchen. Unfortunately, they don't have any credibility in my mind. Too many instances of targeting journalists and medics. Maybe it is not official policy, maybe it's like rogue cops. I think the death tolls of their previous conflicts were 25% Hamas fighters, and 75% civilians.
  9. I am so tired of Donald Trump all the time. If we vote him in he will have and will dominate our national dialogue from June 2015 to January 2029. 14 and a half years. The guy is a gasbag. He doesn't speak for me. He doesn't even speak for his cult members. He represents so much stupidity in actual American politics. He literally doesn't know or care about having a functional American democracy. He plays up the victim card and has taken advantage of Christianity to his own benefit. He never takes responsibility for his actions. He never takes blame, and somehow a decent percentage of Americans support him. He is a racist piece of garbage and has captured the worst in our boomer parents and grandparents. He is a liar, selfish and everything we are supposed to teach our children and grandchildren not to be. All he cares about is making Trump great again. That his VP, cabinet members and former staff as well as a few of his own parties sitting Senators will not support him is incredible. That he is also subject to 4 criminal indictments for his time as President is also incredible. His level of suppiort should be zero. Apparantly I am out of touch with a majority of voters. I know Trump is also a symptom of years of right wing propoganda that has spread through our nation and captured a large population. Sure, its driven by the wealthy desire for tax breaks, and political power. And sure, maybe its also driven by reaction to the "changing world" -- it can't all be as simple as racism, and anti-LGBT plus? The only good thing about a Trump second term is that it will be equally ineffective. If these people really just wanted wealthy tax cuts, they could have gone with Nikki "she's a slam dunk" Haley.... so it's more than wanting comservative policies. It's wanting this piece of garbage to represent you.
  10. Cooking Easter supper the day after... we ended up eating out yesterday which was blasphemy to me. Simple menu Pan seared NY strip steak with garlic/herb rub Double baked stuffed potatoes (TRY THESE!!!) Ceasar Salad....
  11. Are they still around? That's Home Team Sports era. Good for them. I always have thought our announcers were underrated... not just Joe and Craig, but Mel and Phil... (and Buck did grow into that roles).
  12. LSU is a pretty easy team to hate... whoever loses will be salty, and the refs will blow it (after all its female college refs!).
  13. There's a certain age that you grow out of things.... I did see a really good one on Reddit today though.... "I met a woman who was also a data nerd, we tracked our sex for 3 years."
  14. News is so sloppy nowadays I couldn't find how many Justices are on the Supreme Court and what the votes were. 7 Justices and it was a 4-3 vote. The 3 dissents are upset because a health exception would basically open it up to be more like a "pre-Dobbs" landscape. They also mention "fetal personhood." Did conservatives really think that even red states wouldn't want to go back to a "Roe v. Wade" world? This just brings Florida to Roe v. Wade, to some extent.
  15. Thought we had a thread on this. G'dammit -- why is our government so stupid. Stuff like this feeds conspiracy theorists. "We can't say it's Russia -- but we know it's Russia." Or worse... "Russia is using our stolen tech that we have used on them."
  16. What a **** Trump is. I just listened to him from 2020 election night. He was setting up Jan 6 from election night. He called it fraud from the beginning. Said, "we did win the election." Acted like the election was stolen from him. Wow. Why this isn't all people talk about ...
  17. Man. Missed seeing the Dodgers bottom of the 9th. Please win another chip so people like me can stop beating up on Dave Roberts. Another 110 win season without one will only entertain SF fans...
  18. Can we use this in a political ad for 2024? "What does C-U-L-T spell..." -- yes, this is from 2020, but I'm not sure I saw this back then.
  19. Here is a much clearer article on what happened: https://cnsmaryland.org/2024/03/28/raskin-speech-at-the-university-of-maryland-disrupted-by-protest-over-gaza/ ... and here's an article by the author of the Tweet... https://www.thefire.org/news/no-hecklers-veto-not-more-speech
  20. Conservative, COVID-denialist, likely homophobic, and private/eccentric but one of the most successful women's basketball coach around at the moment is a jerk, controls her program and pushes her players to the limit. But she wins. She has a good reason to hate her dad... and it seems like the article is written from his point of view. It may seem very odd for a conservative homophobic to gain success from queer players and not acknowedge their personalities. but she seems like she treats everyone similarly not the bestest.
  21. I don't feel like we have honest media in this country. Let's be honest. Trump is being boosted by corporate and partisan forces. I read / browse right-wing news, and it's propaganda, plain as day. I look at the by-lines and wonder "who the [heck] can write this [slop]". It's "I'm being paid by [Rich Media Group] to push a right wing agenda." There's nothing (inherently) wrong with that, but there's such a huge cognitive dissonance between what is being pushed, and what the truth is. Complaining that the Trump lawsuit is a "victim less crime". So is bank robbery, am I right? So is insurance fraud, victimless! "Jack Smith's case against Donald Trump is falling Apart" - really? This is speculation, pure speculation. "Panic'd Obama and Clinton Rally to Boost Biden!" "I'm going to quote Jonathan Turley as a legitimate legal expert". "Joe Biden releases half-hearted statement on journalist in Russia..." I know it's hard to avoid editorializing 100%, but every single drip, drop, drag of information is "spun". To the point where there's nothing really "newsworthy" but stuff just gets made up and thrown at the wall to assist in partisan BS. Like the whole "Trump cares about slain law enforcement officials". Just say, "We want to boost Trump hard so we can sell political advertising time!!!!! And maybe we also want tax cuts too!!!"
  22. Quoting my prediction from the beginning: Purdue, UCONN (50%) Tennessee (35%), Duke (10%) I'll concede that I just looked at teams and didn't fill in a bracket. So Alabama/Clemson is the bracket buster. NC State/Duke is also a bit of a buster. We're likely to get Purdue v. UCONN in the final.
