  1. Cannon killed the trial post election when she did the special master stuff and it had to go to the 11th Circuit. We just didn't realize it. I personally think she is in way over her head on this. Unfortunately, the Court should have stepped in and said "Let's not assign one of the most important cases in American history to a brand new district court judge." If it was really some "random draw of straws", that seems really stupid and a case where a judge says, "yeah let's roll the dice again". So that's really a strike against the Court again.
  2. I am still not convinced a newly-elected President can stop a criminal case like this, in the middle of the criminal process. I think the best he can do is hit the pause button. But, even that is debatable. I have not doubt multiple issues will end up with SCOTUS and I know how they will rule. It's going to be embarrassing. There are serious rule of law issues with that logic. I can see the Special Counsel going for a Court injunction to prevent that from happening. Maybe I am wrong and Trump can instruct the DoJ to give up the cases under "prosecutorial discretion". But, I am pretty sure the Special Counsel acts independently of DoJ. This is why we have a Special Counsel. He can't be removed for "he is going after the newly elected President". I just read the statue on how a Special Counsel gets removed. This is another Constitutional crises brewing. I think this is why the MAGA people are trying to invalidate Jack Smith's appointment.
  3. I don't agree. This is on the GOP first. I blame McConnell most of all Not voting for the post January 6 impeachment effort was the biggest mistake ever for our country. As much as people want to opine how great Ford pardoning Nixon was (debateable). Senate GOP not impeaching Trump was the opposite. But, for some reason we don't talk about that. They voted against it in February. At this point, they could have said "Eff Donald Trump". At the very least, he would be banned from running for President again. We probably would have the criminal documents case, and the New York fraud case. I don't know if the January 6 trial would proceed. Jack Smith was named Special Counsel after the November 2022 elections. Probably clear that DoJ rules would prevent it 90 days pre-election. If I recall, there was a period where the consensus was "Donald Trump is done after January 6" and then around 2022 it became clear he was gunning for office again. You could argue that impeachment would have even foreclosed the Special Counsel. But remember, the J6 committee ran thru October 2022 and did a lot of the legwork on Trump. I don't even remember if documents were on anyones minds.
  4. It's ridiculous we need to have a new law. But if a former President is charged with Federal crimes and still running for Federal elections, the case needs to be fast-tracked by the Court system to occur prior to the general. I get that summer 2023 is late to indict (and holdovers prevented it). But, it's enough time to provide justice. And how odd is it that we need like a million rules for one specific candidate. It should be clear he was, is, and will always be unfit for office.
  5. These negotiations are gonna be worse than when the GOP negotiates.
  6. Yes!! Was gonna pile on as well. So was the "illegal screen" too. Refs had to have bet on the Knicks. Completly valid discussion to have. Especially with betting sponsorships.
  7. Do you doubt that I would have the same response and stance, if Palestine or some other country were killing 30,000 Israeli citizens somewhat indiscriminately? Because it sounds like you do and I take that personally.
  8. I am constantly having to think and re-write my responses in this thread because my emotions get fired up a bit. And remind myself of the threat that both sides have felt over the years. For the Jews, its the constant and very real holocausts they havs endured through the years. For the Palestinians, it's the very real ethnic cleansing and unequal treatment for decades. Watching the US support the killing of 30,000+ Gazans, displacing the rest and going forward with a war that has an unobtainable objective? Is that "Hamas propoaganda?" I think both sides are a-holes. Clearly Israel as the strongest a-hole has most of the power. How are they going to "finish off Hamas"? And Hamas as "junior a-hole"... unfortunately violence has not resulted in much gains for them, and they really feel like there is no options that yield productivity, so violence it is. Moral clarity was easy on October 7th. The killing of civilians is indefensible. 6 months later, the same applies... except Israel has killed 15x as many civilians. They're Arabs so, "I really don't care, do you?" Is IDF violence acceptable because it falls under a state flag? It really should come down to do we value human life. And yes, "its a war." But it's a war between sides where one is way, way, outgunned.
  9. Or you could blame the administrators for being a bunch of ****ies. The protestors were pretty much in the 100s at one point. Nationwide. By mishandling them, they have grown. Other Universities have handled this better... see UMich... they just moved the protestors out of the way.
  10. Al Jazeera is Qatari funded. Qatar and Israel broke off even informal relations after the 2008-2009 Gaza War. No surprised Israel would kick them out, especially after the October 7 documentary highlighting some issues with the narratives. It's really hard for us in America/West to understand the Palestinian viewpoint. Not just what we are exposed and biased towards non-violence and side with Israel. But think about how angry it makes them to be kicked off their homeland and anyone else around the world who is Jewish can live on it. But not them. The people who have a thousand year claim on the land. They probably can't understand why the world has largely ignored their plight and supported Israel. And Israel keeps expanding settlements, and the world doesn't stop them, even though the settlements violate UN law. Israel is recognized to be occupying power of West Bank and Gaza (even if they don't admit it). One Arab vision I read was a single-state Jew and Arab state run under a secular democracy called "Palestine". And if you have half a brain that makes you ask, "How will the Jews have security in the above state? What about Jewish identity and self-determination?" And there we have the rub and bump into Zionism and anti-Zionism. And why the belief in a two-state solution. Both sides need to work to understand the other -- so hard to do with this long of a conflict. I think I understand why Hamas fights and Palestinians have large support -- everything else has been fruitless and how much worse can it get? When you feel non-violent means have exhausted redress... you resort to violence. Israel needs to give up their settlement project. That's pretty much an instigation to violence. I believe if Israel gives up their settlement project, allows some Palestinians return rights, and a true second state with equal rights including movement and freedom -- it will lead to peace. Why should they move first or take the biggest ask? Because they are the stronger power here. If every time an Israeli is killed, it's no thought to killed, take out 10 to 20 Palestinians. I know what they will say, "The Arabs will never stop fighting us."
  11. @Bang Its fake news media. The media promise not to press the politicians, in exchange for coming onto their platform.
  12. "I care more about my peace than the people dying in Gaza." I don't know how effective protests have been, but peaceful protests are a bedrock of American democracy. And violently cracking down on them are a bedrock of American "anti-democracy". Only 25% of Americans viewed the civil rights protestors positively in the 1960s.
  13. It's Sunday and I am literally seeing this quote reported for the first time. What effing year is it? 1960s? https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-vows-fight-anti-white-feeling-us-his-allies-have-plan-2024-05-04/
  14. Costco used to be about $20 for their chicken. But that was probably 2019. I think they have gone from $2 per lb to $2.70 per lb over 5 years?
  15. I would actually argue both Bibi and Iran benefit from Trump....
  16. Here's the plot. This is an escalation of a war going on for decades. Blaming Joe Biden is exactly what Iran, Russia and China want. College students should be smarter. 2022 - 30 Israelis and foreigners killed by terror and 205 Palestinians killed by IDF and settlers. Killing off people at a 5:1 rate tend to piss them off (even if it is drips and drops). So Palestinians launched October 7 attacks. Killing large amounts of Israelis reminds them of genocide, and all the fears they have about being surrounded by their hostile Arab neighbors. So, they escalated and then killed a boatload of Palestinians. I think it's horrible that all the adult male Palestines are being considered Hamas members. None of this are helping to bring the peace because both sides have legitimate issues. The protestors and counters should actually pracefully try to work out a solution.
  17. Does anyone really think Trump and Biden are even with the black vote? Yet that is what polls are saying.
  18. @Jabbyrwock Or maybe Biden is not losing and the polls are biased to help the media horse race narrative?
  19. And police are back. Again, seems like protestors are just occupying space. Of course they will say, "Disbursal order! This is an illegal protest." Genocide in Gaza is not my top issue, but denying that there is genocide taking place (not just talking about the war post October 7) is ridiculous. LGM:  Is what Israel doing in Gaza Genocide?
  20. More going down on UCLA. Non-student counterprotestors are back. This is ridiculous. Hopefully they don't get anyone killed.
  21. I just scrolled some videos from UCLA. The ones from last night are wild and the LAPD let them fight. Looks like the Proud Boys attacked the encampment. @tshile Protests by definition are intended to be obnoxious and disruptive. I understand protests in the street, etc... but on college campuses? It shouldn't be too problematic to everyone to deal with the disruptions. I am not talking about protestors seizing buildings. Sure, "breaking the letter of the law". Some Universities actually de-escalated the situation. I think it is also dumb for police not to protect protestors from counter-protestors. Do we have first amendement rights anymore? See Brown University... they de-escalated the situation by agreeing to take a vote in BDS. Simple. They didn't even guarntee the vote.
  22. Welp... nevermind then (I found the example of a Jewish student getting attacked... not sure if this is true or not).. Was posted on reddit the attack in the pro-Palestine encampment was retaliation for this. Either way, I think this demonstrates police doing a poor job.
  23. Whatever you think about the protestors. Clearing them out with violence and escalating the situation is not the answer. In fact, this is garbage. A college should not be treated the way a protest at a a for-profit institution or a workplace. Being like, "We don't want to deal with this like responsible adults, call in the police!" is a crazy take. Looking at you, Columbia. And then even after they cleared out the encampents, GOP was like, "We still want the University president fired." This country has taken a way too right-ward turn with respect to media and reporting. A good example is about UCLA last night. A group attacked the protestors, and then the police had to break it up. News media was acting like "protests turned violent". No. Seems like off campus people intentionally attacked the protestors. "Jewish students don't feel safe" while protestors are getting attacked on campus? I can't find a true example of a jewish student actually getting attacked on campus -- however; I do believe that protestors are being verbally towards Jewish students. I take it as "oh my words hurt you, what about the bombs being dropped on Gaza?" I believe this is also a protesting tactic. I can't tell if there is debate and discussion going on (which should he happening) or the sides have just isolated themselves into two camps.
