  1. It's a guide...nothing more. Teams offer more, or less, than the chart value depending upon all of the factors that you mentioned. If two teams agree, then a trade happens at their specific trade compensation.
  2. The early analysis from the league was that the number of top end talent players was limited but that the draft was deep in starter quality players. Do you agree? How many players are in the top tier? If the number of top tier players is exhausted before the Commanders pick, I don't see why anyone would trade up with us. If another team wants a particular QB then they might trade up one slot before the Commanders. If we aren't in the market for a first round QB then other teams leaping ahead might improve a trade down scenario. But we would still be looking at only a few top end players left and that limits the number of teams willing to pay the price for a trade up.
  3. His argument was that Wentz would do well with TWO TEs and we don't know how well Logan Thomas will be when he returns from injury. There are contracts that can be restructured to make room for 7.5 million per year. Some fans have argued that the Commanders should sign Amari Cooper at 20 million per year. I would rather have a 7.5 million player and then draft a WR in the first or second round.
  4. The JP Finlay article was spot on IMO. Help Carson to succeed by giving him the weapons that he needs to run a competent offense.: 1) going big on TE, i.e., sign Zach Ertz, 2) draft a WR in first or second round, and 3) re-sign McKissic. I would add that the team needs to invest in the OL (either free agent mid level starter Guard or draft a G/T that can develop into a starter). There's never enough cap space or number of draft picks.
  5. BPA in the draft is probably not another QB. There is no need to use a first-round pick on the available QBs if the QBs would be 3rd round picks in any other draft year. I don't think the Skins/Team/Commanders have been one QB away from a Superbowl in Snyder's entire tenure. Except the first year when he inherited the roster! They should continue to build the roster using BPA and wise trades of excess until they can find the elusive franchise QB. The Commander's roster IMO isn't as good as the most competitive teams - and I mean almost across the board not just at the QB position. It's important to upgrade the OL, both in free agency for immediate benefit, and in the draft for the long-term. We don't want Wentz to be taking a lot of hits and he has an injury history (some his own fault). It seems every vet QB suffers a career ending injury here.
  6. We have to hope the team doesn't pick donks whether they have a few high picks or many lower picks (quality often does not reveal itself except over time). The Commanders need all of their draft picks (plus more) but they know that any team with a QB need is going to trade up before the Commanders. The only way to keep everyone guessing is to acquire a QB free agent. IMO they need to keep building the team. If the pundits are correct that there are starter quality players deep in this draft then the team should not be giving up those draft picks.
  7. Many coaches have come here, failed, and had success elsewhere. We know that coaching quality hasn't been the issue. Ownership and the front office have been the limiting factors. I'm fine with Turner.
  8. The Commanders' talent level at almost every position does not match up to the top teams. A great QB will elevate the talent around him but the top teams have both the QB and the talented position players. I don't think the team should reach for a QB in the draft. How many "sure fire" QBs have failed? The Commanders have had more than their share of such failure and an all-in trade that didn't pan out would hamstring the team for another ten years. IMO, the team needs two years of GOOD drafts and GOOD free agent acquisitions to put a rookie QB into a position where he could be successful. It sux but I think that's the reality we face. No shortcuts.
  9. Any critiques of the individual performance for the OL? I can't keep track of who was playing where anymore. Even a mobile QB like Heinecke couldn't evade the pressure. I know that Ismael is the 4th string Center but he was getting bulldozed and I think he was the one that fell onto Heinecke. Did S. Charles play? If so, where? I hope Cosmi can come back soon so that the OL juggling can slow down. I agree with other posters that putting too heavy a workload on Gibson is leading to reduced output. Hopefully, McKissic comes back soon and other RBs can pick up the load. Fumbling is correctable so i'm not down on Gibson. It's interesting to see which WRs have chemistry with the different QBs. Cam Sims seemed to step up when Heinecke went down but I think he should always be viewed as a 4th or 5th WR. I had high hopes for the rookie WR but I can't think of his name. That says a lot. It's not uncommon for rookie WRs to struggle with the transition but I hope it's just temporary.
  10. I don't think the team should resign Scherff either but how much of an impact has he had on the team winning the last two games? The team is 4 - 2 when he is starting at the losses came to the Bills and Chargers. Is the renewed emphasis on the running game due to Scherff being back in the line-up? I had high hopes that S. Charles could be a starting Guard for the team.
  11. I don't want to root for a team that is content with losing.
  12. First start and playing out of his primary position. It's good that he got some experience and hopefully it will help him if he ever has to shift over to Tackle again. I'd like to see him play Guard this season to see if the team got anything from the draft pick.
  13. In a bad season the only hope to cling to is the upside of a rookie class plus the free agent acquisitions. Unfortunately, the draft class has been underwhelming and the free agents have fared even worse.
  14. Montez Sweat had the highest pressure rate but he seemed to be the one getting burned repeatedly with the read-option by Jones.
  15. I don't know why fans get so upset with rookies so quickly. Cosmi was selected #51 and even if he is eventually moved to Guard that's not so bad when you consider that Scherff (#5 overall pick) had to play Guard from the onset. The personal foul penalty was stupid but the team does need his mean attitude.
  16. Now, that brings back good memories. Mike Sellers was a beast.
  17. The WR battles are going to be the most fun to watch during preseason. I think the WFT will want to keep Humphries as a proven vet even if he's on a one-year prove it deal. Milne's draft status should allow him to be put on the practice squad but can a player be protected now? The "good hands" can be more important than S. Sim's potential. If Milne balls out, I want him on the roster instead of the practice squad. I see Cam Sims, Harmon, and AGG as interchangeable until they perform in the preseason. Sometimes a WR shines with a particular QB - and any of these guys could look much better with Fitz.
  18. I like Cam Sims too but Humphries is playing a different position than Sims. Curtis Samuels can play the slot very well but what happens if he's on PUP during the regular season instead of right now? Which of the other WRs would you have fill in at slot in that case? Or, who fills in at slot if you have Samuels in another WR position on certain plays?
  19. I don't know why everyone is so down on Charles. He suffered a dislocated knee and was out for the season but injuries happen in the NFL. I think fans are so accustomed to the team having drafted injury prone players that we immediately write rookies off if there is any injury. I'll change my tune if he goes on IR in his second year though!! Charles played LT, RT and RG in college and he showed good movement and power. Just pretend that he suffered the injury in his last year in college and the team drafted him this year. Bonus for the OL!!! I'm feeling optimistic this offseason.
  20. I'm beginning to wonder whether the team should ever use the franchise tag except in situations where they know they can tag and trade. I understand that this tag was an insurance policy for the OL but it seems the franchise results in an guaranteed departure of the player after paying big bucks
  21. IMO, Rivera made the right move in bringing in experienced personnel executives. There are tough decisions looming with the first contract renewals having a significant impact on the ability to sign the others in the future. The coaches and the executives will have to work together to maximize the output for the DL as a whole. Does Payne really create havoc and chaos? I haven't seen him as Warren Sapp-lite in prior years but last year was the first in this new defensive scheme. We should see how all of the defensive players fit now that the entire defense is looking to be more complete.
  22. The QB that started for most of the season had to retire; the team had only one proven WR; the starting TE had never produced prior to his stint at Washington; and the starting RB was a rookie who had never played the position. I wouldn't evaluate Turner's performance in Year 1.
  23. If Rivera can build a consistently winning team, I do not care whether they are unable or unwilling to sign Scherff and/or Allen. If the team fortunes rest on one player (non-QB) then there is something wrong with the team structure. As long as the team has another player to fill the shoes there isn't an issue. The new player has to be good but doesn't have to be as good as the departing player because the cap saving allows additional savings to be invested in other positions.
  24. Gibson had been a WR and was just learning the RB position. Coaches were using year 1 for evaluation and likely wanted to expose Gibson to different concepts and schemes to see what he could do well. The team had a new OL coach teaching different techniques than the prior coach. He is known to be a good coach but wanted things done differently than the old coach. Growing pains were to be expected. In year 1 the team was stuck with the players acquired under the prior regime - it wasn't uncommon over the years to have a patchwork of players that didn't mesh well as a unit. Given Rivera's stated goals of establishing culture and learning about his players, I don't see anything in the video that would lead one to conclude that Scott Turner is deficient as OC.
