  1. The team had to decide on the 2nd franchise tag before the draft (Cosmi) and before they acquired Flowers and Leno. So the 18 million could be viewed as an insurance policy before the uncertainties of the draft and free agency. We know that Cosmi will compete at Guard/Tackle and having Charles to compete for those positions as well is a bonus. I have confidence that this front office actually knows what it is doing and will maintain pay discipline for the various position groups.
  2. Fans have been accustomed to short-term thinking. Yes, it would be nice if Kerrigan accepted being a backup and he could have retired as a Skin. But that didn't fit either his plans or the team's. The WFT needs to develop young players behind the two starting DE and Kerrigan wants money and playing time. The split was best for both parties. Kudos to management for trying to move on from Moses as well. He wasn't going to get a new contract and the team has two draft picks (Cosmi and Charles) that need playing time at Tackle.
  3. Finally an exciting group of WRs and a QB that likes to throw deep. Looking forward to a fun season. It would be nice if Brown quickly develops a complete route tree but I'd be happy if the staff lets him go deep every time and slowly coaches him up to be a more complete WR for the subsequent season.
  4. What was the name of the bingo caller that was hired as defensive coordinator for the Redskins?
  5. Snyder isn't a fool - he's not going to admit to anything and will deny everything. There is a lot of smoke indicating a serious fundamental issue but I think the non-disclose agreement is the key. If the details ever get revealed and it's of the nature I suspect, then I think the NFL's hand will be forced. If the non-disclose agreement can be kept sealed then Snyder will survive.
  6. Not sure whether NickyJ is a milenial but the comment was pretty funny. Rivera used the old school move of promoting incompetence out of the way.
  7. Watching last weekend's playoff games may give fans a different perspective on the readiness of the WFT to compete at that level. Upgrading the talent level is a must but I'm leery of bringing in super-expensive stars to fill needs. My hope is for reasonable contracts and more "prove it" acquisitions to maintain the blue collar attitude being developed by Rivera and Del Rio. It's going to be an interesting offseason - hopefully of substance rather than headlines.
  8. The Dline really wasn't able to pressure Brady. Somehow the Saints are getting the job done
  9. Lol. Brain fart. Happens sometimes before finishing the coffee. Steve Montez obviously.
  10. IMO the team needs to keep 3 QBs going forward. Kyle Allen doesn't need to be healed by mini-camp - but he does need to compete during preseason. He's a cheap #2 that knows, and can execute, the system. Montez Sweat goes on the practice squad.
  11. In other words, another RG3-sized deal but for a proven player. That's still too rich for me. How well would he fit the scheme? How many holes can Washington fill with all those picks? The Texans would be smart to try to get Watson to agree to a trade. The Texans were so mismanaged they need to take a few years to tear out all the damage and rebuild. Watson is wasted talent for them.
  12. How much value do you put on giving the current players some experience in the playoffs? In prior Skins teams the players often just wanted to get paid. These guys are going to really want to get back to the playoffs and do better in the future. Is that worth picking 9 slots higher? You don't know with the draft picks until after 2-3 years so I'm sticking with giving the team the experience and building the competitive fire.
  13. I think he's coaching what he's got. At the beginning of the season there wasn't any proven talent at TE or WR except for McLauren. It's not possible to have a legitimate downfield offense with only one playmaker. The upside of this season is that the young players got time on the field and some have really stepped up. IMO though, the team still needs a #1/#2 quality WR as all of the WRs (not named Mclauren) are complementary pieces. Ideally, I would like a new slot receiver as Steven Sims didn't really take the step up expected. He can compete in the offseason and battle for special teams/backup. So two new WRS and I'd like a new back-up TE too while I'm at it. It's time to move on from Sprinkle and other hold-overs that can never produce.
  14. We are playing with house money. Smith looked ok on the first drive but as the game went on it was obvious he was too gimpy to be really effective. When a replay showed Smith throwing with his bad leg way up in the air, I had a flashback to RG3 in his one playoff game. Is a 50% Smith better than a 100% Heinicke? Tampa has the playbook to shut 50% Smith down. IMO, Heinicke gives the team a better chance to win. So what if they lose? If Smith starts and loses will the reaction be any different? As the backup, Smith might be good for one quarter. That's still a plus for the team.
  15. How many QBs lack "size" these days? He appears to lack elite arm strength but as the gurus always say "arm strength is the most over rated characteristic in a QB". His end zone pass to AGG(?) would have been a TD if he had the arm strength to place it up higher where only AGG could get to it. But other than that I liked what I saw from him even if his ceiling is a good #2 QB. We just need him to win one game. I had zero confidence in the former backup to Smith.
  16. The team is grooming James Smith-Williams but I'd be ok letting Kerrigan go if the team finds a developmental DE in the draft. At the end of the season there is really nothing that Kerrigan can offer the team that can't be provided by a much cheaper journeyman player. They don't need his leadership anymore and only need someone to spell the starters. If either Young/Sweat get injured then James Smith-Williams will have to step up and benefit from the added reps.
  17. Rivera is giving the young guys an opportunity to develop and prove themselves. Cam Sims has really stepped up but even with his recent performance the team needs him to be the #3 or #4 WR going forward. Another really good WR will give the team the depth at WR that it really needs to go toe to toe with the best teams. I was hoping that Sims Jr would take a step up this year but perhaps no offseason and injuries are holding him back. Inman seems to be purely a backup IMO. The WR battle for roster spots next offseason (I hope they have one!) will be interesting.
  18. Sucks for Ioannidis but the team knows he can play and will be in their long-term plans. Now it's time to evaluate Settle, Anderson and whomever they bring up from the practice squad. It will be interesting. Best case, the team upgrades the backups and can trade some DL talent in the offseason for help in other areas of the team.
  19. He played Right Tackle. Where would you fit him in? Considering his age and history are you thinking a one-year deal while the existing young OL get more development time?
  20. It's a poor highlight reel but that's the XFL - all of the WRs ran their routes, turned around and waited for the ball to be thrown to them - - the QB never attempted any passes to hit WRs in stride. Badet has speed and is the size of DeShaun Jackson. If he can be coached up to take the top off of the defense then it will be a good pickup. Risk is zero and he should be able to play special teams as a punt returner. If he turns out to be an upgrade over the current #4-#5 WR then it's a win.
  21. Fans are always quick to trade picks but then come draft time they lament the lost opportunities (Sweat trade - most recently). Plus, we never know how valuable the traded pick will be. If the WFT (WTF!!!) does poorly as usual the pick selection is high in the specific round. How many times have we all wished that the team had been able to pick just five slots higher? If the team goes for Robinson I hope they negotiate his new deal up front and the trade involves a swap of players rather than a draft pick (obviously a player that the team really doesn't need).
  22. Never! The hex against the former team has been lifted. Second round picks are now, and forever more, going to be treated like the gold that they are for building the long-term success of the team. Odell is good but he's not young and good. Rivera knows what the team needs but he's not going to throw away building blocks for one player. They presented a huge free agent contract to one WR and couldn't get him to sign. That's ok.
  23. I'd rather give more reps to the rookies. There's no need for any expensive prima donna veterans at this point. This year is just one long extended preseason - an opportunity for the coaches to see which players are a good fit.
  24. Jeez oh Peet. What a sad state of the franchise where the everyone's imagination runs to the worst possibilities
