  1. The team had to decide on the 2nd franchise tag before the draft (Cosmi) and before they acquired Flowers and Leno. So the 18 million could be viewed as an insurance policy before the uncertainties of the draft and free agency. We know that Cosmi will compete at Guard/Tackle and having Charles to compete for those positions as well is a bonus. I have confidence that this front office actually knows what it is doing and will maintain pay discipline for the various position groups.
  2. Fans have been accustomed to short-term thinking. Yes, it would be nice if Kerrigan accepted being a backup and he could have retired as a Skin. But that didn't fit either his plans or the team's. The WFT needs to develop young players behind the two starting DE and Kerrigan wants money and playing time. The split was best for both parties. Kudos to management for trying to move on from Moses as well. He wasn't going to get a new contract and the team has two draft picks (Cosmi and Charles) that need playing time at Tackle.
  3. Finally an exciting group of WRs and a QB that likes to throw deep. Looking forward to a fun season. It would be nice if Brown quickly develops a complete route tree but I'd be happy if the staff lets him go deep every time and slowly coaches him up to be a more complete WR for the subsequent season.
  4. Nice haul of quality players that fit team needs. I'm excited about the possibilities. LB - if all of the former LB coaches love this kid then I'm sold. OT - yes, he will compete to start and the existing OTs will battle it out for swing tackle or starting G DB - positional flexibility CB or Free Safety. He gets to compete for a starting role and could move around to different DB positions depending upon the opponent. WR - deep threat. Finally, a complete WR squad. The holdovers that we thought could be #2,#3,#4 WRs now have to compete to be good enough to make the team. With a quality WR squad the team may be reliant more on a blocking TE The remaining picks should be BPA with the goal of upgrading the depth positions. Fingers crossed that they can find some gems. I wouldn't be surprised if they find another WR and I'm okay with that.
  5. You never know. Finley was saying that the chances of a long-term contract with Scherff are now remote and that the team may be convinced they have a one-year rental. I'm not sure I would want the WFT to use a first round pick on a Guard but drafting one might be a good idea. I wish we knew more about S.Charles situation.
  6. You would have freaked out when the draft was 12 + rounds. The 7th round only seems irrelevant because you no longer have an additional 5 -12 rounds coming after.
  7. Both starting OTs will be free agents after the upcoming season so it's a good time to invest in the position even if S.Charles can come back and compete as a Tackle. The question in my mind is whether any of the top Tackles will last to the 19th pick in the second round. We can guess but we never know. I'm willing to pass on an equally rated, or slightly higher rated, WR for an OT.
  8. BPA BPA BPA. Having said that, I hope the BPA for the team's first four picks cover the following positions: OT, WR, TE, and LB.
  9. After using a first and two third round picks, stick the rookie QB behind an OL that is a work in process and provide him with below NFL average weapons. Result = Failure. I prefer to let the draft come to the WFT and to build the supporting cast before going all in for any particular QB.
  10. What was the name of the bingo caller that was hired as defensive coordinator for the Redskins?
  11. Snyder isn't a fool - he's not going to admit to anything and will deny everything. There is a lot of smoke indicating a serious fundamental issue but I think the non-disclose agreement is the key. If the details ever get revealed and it's of the nature I suspect, then I think the NFL's hand will be forced. If the non-disclose agreement can be kept sealed then Snyder will survive.
  12. Not sure whether NickyJ is a milenial but the comment was pretty funny. Rivera used the old school move of promoting incompetence out of the way.
  13. I think he meant the only OL players that the Skins selected in the first round.
  14. I'd love to see the WFT invest some more in the trenches to get the OL settled long term. Let the draft pick compete with S. Charles, C. Lucas and G. Christian. Ideally the rookie starts; S. Charles is an upgrade at G (with future potential at T) and Cornelius Lucas is the reliable swing tackle. I have no faith in Geron Christian. Schweitzer can at least be the quality backup. Better pass protection will open up some more downfield passes. Christensen and Darrisaw may both be available at 19. Which do you like better for the WFT?
  15. No that's not what I'm saying. The past player is an example. Saying the third round pick is worth say 200pts in the trade is meaningless in isolation. The third round pick is high enough that you will know the likely players to be available. The team can decide whether it will chose to present an offer based upon which players they would want if the trade wasn't consummated. If it's just a mathematical transaction it's easy to say Pitts is a great player so let's get him for xxx points. But it's different when you say here are the two players i don't get in order to acquire Pitts. The past was used as an example so you don't just look at the point value in isolation.
  16. I realize we don't have the value of hindsight when you give up the pick. But the facts don't support your position. A first round pick has a greater or lesser value depending on the players available. It's not entirely selection order specific
  17. We will have to disagree. The hit rate odds don't take into account the depth of any year's draft. Since the front office can model down to the third round they know which players. Btw If you have a problem with mansplaining you are on the wrong forum
  18. You are giving up an actual player when you trade a draft pick. When you give up that third round draft pick you should have an idea which players may be available in the 3rd round. Sometimes higher rated players slip further than you expect. You are giving up your rights to a quality player when you trade the draft pick. Which one? Which position? You don't know but you expect that it's a quality player in the 3rd round. I'm not interested in counting the number of points for the 19th pick and the third round pick. If the draft is deep at WR then you likely will have quality WRs available for selection in the 3rd round. But you can't select them because you gave away the pick. Does LT + WR = TE? I think the GM has to mix and match likely scenarios to be sure that Pitts has higher value to the team than the combined value of the other two players that could be selected.
  19. My point is that you would not have been able to use that 3rd round pick on Mclauren. We had the same issue with the Sweat trade - it was great in the draft but next year you knew what the team had given up in the trade. If Vinny were still running the show, I would agree with you. But if you have a quality scouting department you are going to pick up some good players with the draft picks in rounds 3-7. Obviously you don't hit a home run with every one but the team isn't going to have as many busts as during the last 20 years. The Skins' front office was incompetent and a big reason why the team was one of the worst teams in the NFL for 20 years.
  20. Would you trade your first round pick at 19 plus McLauren to get Pitts? If not, maybe re-think what that 3rd round pick really represents.
  21. Watching last weekend's playoff games may give fans a different perspective on the readiness of the WFT to compete at that level. Upgrading the talent level is a must but I'm leery of bringing in super-expensive stars to fill needs. My hope is for reasonable contracts and more "prove it" acquisitions to maintain the blue collar attitude being developed by Rivera and Del Rio. It's going to be an interesting offseason - hopefully of substance rather than headlines.
  22. The Dline really wasn't able to pressure Brady. Somehow the Saints are getting the job done
  23. I don't see the point in drafting a QB as the starter unless the team has all the pieces in place to help him be successful. The team needs to add at least one other proven productive WR, a TE, and improve pass protection (LT?). A better running game would also be a plus. I would pass on a rookie with only one year experience until the 3rd or later rounds as he's going to have to sit for a couple of years to develop anyway.
  24. Lol. Brain fart. Happens sometimes before finishing the coffee. Steve Montez obviously.
  25. IMO the team needs to keep 3 QBs going forward. Kyle Allen doesn't need to be healed by mini-camp - but he does need to compete during preseason. He's a cheap #2 that knows, and can execute, the system. Montez Sweat goes on the practice squad.
