  1. Glad Backy signed. Ugh, can you imagine him in a Flyers jersey. Penguins jersey??? šŸ¤¢
  2. Yea, evidently suicide by Acela is somewhat popular. When it happened to me, they had another train pull up along side and everyone hopped onto that one. The people on that second train were salty assholes about it. Luckily for me, during the time between hitting the dude and the second train getting rolling, the one meeting I had to go to NYC for was cancelled, so I hopped off at New Carrollton and went home.
  3. Beginning of last year (or maybe 2018), the train i was on hit and killed a person. Right after it left the station. Still better than flying.
  4. I agree, what you wrote is garbage rationale, but that's not the rationale in the report, if you read it. It's a point of reference for how these things usually go.
  5. Per the report: I think this is a decent enough rationale (certainly a lot of the players involved are with other clubs, and it's tough to pick and choose which players to punish), but also probably motivated by MLB's bottom line (don't want to tarnish Bregman, he's super marketable, etc).
  6. Just throwing out a point of reference for punishments. At UNC, over the course of 18 years, at least 3,100 students took "nonexistent" classes, the official investigation for which stated: "These counselors saw the paper classes and the artificially high grades they yielded as key to helping some student-athletes remain eligible [to participate in UNC athletics]." The NCAA's punishment: Nothing. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/13/sports/unc-north-carolina-ncaa.html I'm not saying the Astro's are getting railroaded, I'm saying they are getting punished more than what usually happens.
  7. Here is the full report if anyone is interested. https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-images/image/upload/mlb/cglrhmlrwwbkacty27l7.pdf
  8. Hinch will end up with the Cowboys or Raiders.
  9. Yea, I agree with the general sentiment. This seems harsh enough to deter this happening much in the future. Interesting that Alex Cora was (heavily) involved with both teams that have gotten caught, but I haven't seen him mentioned anywhere (I believe the RedSox are still being investigated). He might warrant inclusion on the Commissioner's List. Generally, I think punishments are usually too light (especially in the NCAA) because governing bodies don't want to undercut their profit centers. The Astros are a top team in a huge market, so kudos to Manfred for not letting them off the hook.
  10. It is an indefinite suspension, not necessarily a lifetime ban. The Commissioner can put you on it and also take you off of it. Jenry Media of the Mets was put on it for repeatedly failing PED tests, but Manfred reinstated him last year. I think George Steinbrenner was put on the list for a few years, I can't remember what it was for though. Probably just being a dick.
  11. This seems shockingly appropriate. I figured more of a slap on the wrist. https://theathletic.com/1529253/2020/01/13/exclusive-mlb-hands-down-unprecedented-penalties-for-astros-after-sign-stealing-investigation/
  12. Yea, I was gonna say TSA's employee benefits package just got a lot better.
  13. Would you say you had ā€œa momentā€ with this squirrel rabbit?
  14. Yea @d0ublestr0ker0ll, that bunny looks like a real psychopath.
  15. I agree. JD can wait it out, just like Harp and Machado did last year, and wait for the best deal to materialize. I donā€™t think the Nats will get a good deal, but the may get a manageable one.
  16. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Announces Action Against Monster Loans, Lend Tech Loans, and Associated Student Loan Debt-Relief Companies https://www.consumerfinance.gov/about-us/newsroom/cfpb-announces-action-against-monster-loans-lend-tech-loans-and-student-loan-debt-relief-companies/
  17. It did not specify universal healthcare. Lord knows Obamacare has been called socialism a billion times.
  18. Questions for me are (1) can they ever come out ready to play in the 1st and (2) can they stop taking a zillion penalties.
  19. Kuzy appears to be feeling it tonight. Probably back on the yay. šŸ™ƒ
  20. Bourbon and Amazon works too. Er, I've heard.
  21. Great tweet, but also kind of sad (based on my limited understanding of this couple).
  22. I remember taking Criminal Law class in 2014 and the teacher used George Hugely as an example of this tactic. Hugely was the lacrosse bro that rage murdered his ex-girlfriend at UVA in like 2012. Anyways, Hugely is a legit D1 athlete at a Power 5 school, but his lawyers dressed him up for court in a comically oversized jacket and khakis and gave him a bob haircut so that he'd look like a junior high schoolboy wearing adult clothing for the first time. Again, this person murdered his ex-girlfriend by smashing her head against a wall until she died, and had 2 priors, for one of which he had to be tasered to be subdued.
