  1. Not that it helps much. ***** https://russianmachineneverbreaks.com/2020/01/15/i-hope-i-dont-die-a-terrified-ryan-zimmerman-suits-up-as-goaltender-at-capitals-practice/ ‘I hope I don’t die’: A ‘terrified’ Ryan Zimmerman suits up as goaltender at Capitals practice Things you can do when you aren't under contract.....
  2. Gosh, I feel like Michael Avenatti is like Carly Rae Jepsen. Was like the hot thing for 10 minutes 10 years ago.
  3. Not really DMV, but we don't have a Virginia thread. https://www.npr.org/2020/01/15/796666321/virginia-governor-declares-state-of-emergency-ahead-of-pro-gun-rally
  4. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/virginia-politics/2020/01/15/0475d51a-36f1-11ea-9541-9107303481a4_story.html Virginia lawmakers pass Equal Rights Amendment in historic vote Mostly symbolic, it is likely too late to actually add the amendment to the Constitution.
  5. This is what I tell people too.
  6. Yea, your second point is why I lean towards keeping him. The Stanley Cup year, Holtby was playing poorly enough that he did not even start the first game of the playoffs. But then he was awesome. What happens if you trade him and Sam gets hurt, or regresses, or the playoffs are too big for him the first go round? Just too much uncertainty for me to trade Holtby for probably not a ton. I dunno, I'm leaning that way, but it's not a strong lean. I wouldn't be upset either way. Upgrading Jensen would be good.
  7. I definitely think Cora should get the Pete Rose treatment.
  8. I don't think I'd trade Holts midseason. It lines up that we have 5 more years before a major rebuild and no more Ovi, so every chance counts. Chances get worse each year as the core ages more. I don't think I want to go into the playoffs this year with a rookie goalie when I can have a guy that already won a Stanley Cup. They probably wouldn't get much for a 1/2 year rental.
  9. Glad Backy signed. Ugh, can you imagine him in a Flyers jersey. Penguins jersey??? 🤢
  10. Yea, evidently suicide by Acela is somewhat popular. When it happened to me, they had another train pull up along side and everyone hopped onto that one. The people on that second train were salty assholes about it. Luckily for me, during the time between hitting the dude and the second train getting rolling, the one meeting I had to go to NYC for was cancelled, so I hopped off at New Carrollton and went home.
  11. Beginning of last year (or maybe 2018), the train i was on hit and killed a person. Right after it left the station. Still better than flying.
  12. I agree, what you wrote is garbage rationale, but that's not the rationale in the report, if you read it. It's a point of reference for how these things usually go.
  13. Per the report: I think this is a decent enough rationale (certainly a lot of the players involved are with other clubs, and it's tough to pick and choose which players to punish), but also probably motivated by MLB's bottom line (don't want to tarnish Bregman, he's super marketable, etc).
  14. Just throwing out a point of reference for punishments. At UNC, over the course of 18 years, at least 3,100 students took "nonexistent" classes, the official investigation for which stated: "These counselors saw the paper classes and the artificially high grades they yielded as key to helping some student-athletes remain eligible [to participate in UNC athletics]." The NCAA's punishment: Nothing. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/13/sports/unc-north-carolina-ncaa.html I'm not saying the Astro's are getting railroaded, I'm saying they are getting punished more than what usually happens.
  15. Here is the full report if anyone is interested. https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-images/image/upload/mlb/cglrhmlrwwbkacty27l7.pdf
  16. Hinch will end up with the Cowboys or Raiders.
  17. Yea, I agree with the general sentiment. This seems harsh enough to deter this happening much in the future. Interesting that Alex Cora was (heavily) involved with both teams that have gotten caught, but I haven't seen him mentioned anywhere (I believe the RedSox are still being investigated). He might warrant inclusion on the Commissioner's List. Generally, I think punishments are usually too light (especially in the NCAA) because governing bodies don't want to undercut their profit centers. The Astros are a top team in a huge market, so kudos to Manfred for not letting them off the hook.
  18. It is an indefinite suspension, not necessarily a lifetime ban. The Commissioner can put you on it and also take you off of it. Jenry Media of the Mets was put on it for repeatedly failing PED tests, but Manfred reinstated him last year. I think George Steinbrenner was put on the list for a few years, I can't remember what it was for though. Probably just being a dick.
  19. This seems shockingly appropriate. I figured more of a slap on the wrist. https://theathletic.com/1529253/2020/01/13/exclusive-mlb-hands-down-unprecedented-penalties-for-astros-after-sign-stealing-investigation/
  20. Yea, I was gonna say TSA's employee benefits package just got a lot better.
