Gawd... we all know its going to dominate prime time coverage while awesome **** like the biathlon is going to be on at 1 pm on cnbc Also the worst part of the Olympics is cranky Bob Costas. I will accept no argument on this issue.
TheGreatBuzz
Just to be clear, when North Korea gets mad that we won too many gold medals and launches a nuke at the Olympics, will we post that here or would that be political? Actually might just want a separate thread for that.

PleaseBlitz
Shaun White is bigger than snowboarding. That’s what made failure so hard. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/olympics/shaun-white-is-bigger-than-snowboarding-thats-what-made-failure-so-hard/2018/02/05/9bdae5aa-0a78-11e8-95a5-c396801049ef_story.html?utm_term=.108866b0ed50 Quote Shaun White wasn’t used to falling. Flipping, twirling, watching the world spin wildly with the iconic snowboarder always serving as the point of axis? Sure. But falling, let alone failing, was completely foreign. So when he left the Sochi Olympics, his status as a snowboarding legend still secure in everyone else’s mind, White felt an emptiness. He was still a two-time Olympic champion, and perhaps the most marketable winter sports athlete ever. But to him, none of that seemed to matter. “Nobody realizes what it’s like to come home and, like, you can’t escape it,” he explained recently. “You’re filling up your car with gas and somebody’s like, ‘Hey man, sorry about what happened.’ Right when you think it’s gone, you’re at the grocery store and the guy’s checking your items, like, ‘Hey man, sorry what happened.’ ” In the three Olympics before Sochi, the United States had won seven of nine possible halfpipe medals, including White’s golds in Turin and Vancouver. But White crashed on his final run in Sochi, finishing in fourth place, and the Americans were shut out for the first time since the sport was introduced at the 1998 Nagano Games. More at link. Corcaigh
In other news, I'm going to be at the Olympic Training Center in CO Springs this weekend. They are having festivities downtown on Friday evening that should be cool. Not as cool as being in Korea, but a distant second best. http://coloradospringssports.org/index.php/42-news/rokstories/437-2018-odc

ixcuincle
Can't believe those numbskulls at NBC don't want to pre-empt TODAY on NBC to show the opening ceremonies. You aware Canada is showing them live on TSN? They can just throw the ceremony on NBCSN. But no...let's air the ceremonies tape delayed at 8 PM. And that was why people was so mad in the first place! (BTW NBC said they will live stream the cermony without commentary so if you wanna be like the rest of the world and watch it live you can go to www.nbcolympics.com)

China
Wow, the American curlers blowing it, now down 7-1 to Korea. Now 8-1. And it's not that the Koreans are playing well, it's that the Americans are playing poorly. So I understand that some events start early so that they can fit everything in, but why not just move up the opening ceremonies so that all the events start afterwards. Doesn't make sense to me. Zguy28
Very strong worded opinion piece on MSN regarding the Shani Davis/Erin Hamlin controversy. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/winter-olympics/shani-davis-is-an-olympic-disgrace/ar-BBITF5q?li=BBnb7Kz THe #blackhistorymonth part of the tweet implies that he wasn't chosen because of skin color, even though it was a coin toss. https://twitter.com/ShaniDavis/status/961534274586464256 Edit, I don't know how to embed the tweet. PleaseBlitz
When I saw this I thought the smart move for Shani would have been to accept it gracefully and that would have allowed Hamlin to hand the flag to him for part of the procession. Not everybody can see the smart move through their anger issues.
