Turd Ferguson
Right on, phishhead (though with that name, you sound like a dirty hippy). I was always more into punk and hardcore than metal, so this new breed of metalcore is more my speed. Metallica, Slayer, Sabbath, Motorhead, etc. I totally dig, but more recent bands, like Converge, Poison the Well, Darkest Hour, Bleeding Through, Coalesce, Dillinger Escape Plan, The Red Chord, Norma Jean, Botch, As I Lay Dying, Black Dahlia Murder and others are rocking me out nowadays. I'll try a mixed top 10 (in no particular order): Metallica: Master of Puppets Slayer: Reign in Blood Norma Jean: Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child Converge: When Forever Comes Crashing Bleeding Through: This is Love, This is Murderous Black Sabbath: Black Sabbath Darkest Hour: Mark of the Judas Dillinger Escape Plan: Calculating Infinity Lamb of God: New American Gospel (Richmond's finest, suckas!) In Flames: Clayman

In Flames: Clayman Yeah, I admit I'm in to the hippie stuff as well as metal, hardcore, and some punk. I can listen to about anything, except most country. As of late I've been listening to more of the "tough guy" hardcore than anything else. Have you heard Throwdown? I just bought "Haymaker" by them. Its f*ckin' brutal. Chachie
Jeez, I'm old. Don't know half of these bands you KIDS are naming. here goes my OLD SCHOOL list. Not in order: Judas Priest- Unleashed in the East (Live) AC/DC- Highway to Hell Van Halen- Van Halen Iron Maiden- The Number of the Beast Ozzy Ozbourne- Blizzard of Oz Motley Crue- Shout at the Devil Guns 'n' Roses- Appetite for Destruction Judas Priest- Screaming for Vengeance Black Sabbath- Black Sabbath Metallica- Ride the Lightning Anything before Black Sabbath or after 1990 can not be called "Heavy Metal" IMHO. When we hit the 90s, there became other scenes like "thrash", "speed metal", "grunge". Even though they may have been "heavier" than the 70s-80s metal, they cannot be thrown in with the main bands that "formed" the Heavy Metal scene. Once again, IMHO. (I'm sure there are other great metal albums I am forgetting.) :bong: :cannibas: :chug: (ME, in my 1980s metal mode)
Turd Ferguson
Phishhead, if you dig Throwdown and metal, check out Bleeding Through. Brandon Schieppati, who was guitarist for Throwdown and 18 Visions, is the vocalist. Metalcore at its finest, with some eerie keyboards thrown on top. It'll flatten your sack, son! Sweet Sassy Molassy
I think anything from Tool, Black Sabbath and Metallica top this list. Linkin Park is alright, some nu-metal I would actually listen to sometimes, but they arent that great lyrically or instrumentally. They still are overall making songs to please the masses(the majority of their listeners are teens and college students). I dont care if you like them, to each his own and more power to you, and I like their style. However, compare them to bands as Dream Theater, Queensryche, old Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Tool, Blind Guardian, Testament, and of the other bands you all have listed, they cant compare as well, in my opinion. Commander PK
Originally posted by Britskin Interesting, when I saw the thread title I instantly thought Master Of Puppets and then And Justice For All a close second(the Black album not for behind). Reading the replies I find it interesting that there have been a few mentions for Puppets and the Black album but none for Justice. I was just wondering what you guys think of that album? I think "justice" was a very good metal album, but the big problem I have with it is that the production was bad. If it had been better produced like "Master" or "Ride" it could have been the best one they ever did. Although, they did manage to make a worse sounding album with "St. Anger." I actually like that album to, but Lars sounds like he's playing on empty coffee cans the whole time, and there are no Kirk solos. I think he took a sabatical for that album or something. If you listen to St. Anger though, just like Justice you hear some really ingenious stuff going on. The big question with Metallica is going to be, where they go from here.
