The absolute refusal of supposed "conservatives" to call the GOP to account is quite remarkable.

I concur, they should have stopped the racist Dems back in 1921.

People have different belief systems, education, and unique experiences that fuel their beliefs.

No doubt, but if you believe in the virtue of certain ideals--justice, equality, liberty, and brotherhood of humanity--then there are beliefs that contradict those virtues and beliefs that do not.

White supremacy is a reality in America.  It is a part of our society at the most basic level, and it effects all of our daily lives in numerous ways.  It's so ingrained at this point that we don't even recognize it for what it is most of the time.  But having a society built upon White supremacy contradicts the virtues that are our national ideals.

If this country is ever going to grow into the nation we aspire to being, then we need to evolve past this reality of White supremacy.  And that means that a lot of people are going to have to learn about and acknowledge some really uncomfortable truths about White supremacy.  And that process is going to make them angry and defensive because it's going to involve recognizing how their actions reinforce it and how they need to change.  And Americans have never been good at recognizing and accepting broad social responsibility for problems and injustices.  But as you say, education and teaching tolerance and putting human faces on the people being harmed by White supremacy are the way to making this happen.

Nobody is claiming that the gop has been completely over run by white supremist.  That they have moved closer together.

Personally, I still want to know what the people he had investigating it found that we wouldn't believe.”

when he said “they” he meant his supporters, and what they wouldn’t believe is that Obama was a natural citizen of the united states.

I have to ask, is this post for real or a joke?

Any white supremacist running for office is a problem, but it’s nothing new.

Nobody claimed it was new.  There were more in 2012 than before.  In 2016, you see the kkk endorse the republican nominee for the first time since at least Regean and this year you see even more running.

The point is it is growing.  Not that it never happened before.

9/11 radicalized rural America.

The GOP used anti-Obama propaganda to codify that fringe into a white nationalist political block...The Tea Party.

Moderate Republicans (RINOs) were purged from the party.

Russia propped up Trump, the dog whistle was blown like Gideon’s trumpet and the rest is history.

Anybody still defending or supporting the GOP is absolutely aware of this shift and absolutely thrilled about it.

Probably a result of the Dems closing with the socialists and commies.....not that they have been completely overrun of course.

I didn't know that, but it makes sense when you think about it.  He was trying to achieve the kind of continental population replacement that we did, and establish the kind of racially stratified hierarchies that we had here.  Specifically, he wanted to exterminate the Slavs and Jews of Eastern Europe to open up room for ethnic German settlers to replace them.  And he used ethnic minorities (and other vulnerable, low status populations) as political scapegoats to gain power and unify ethnic majorities behind his cause.

That's a good article and that author seems to have created some very good scholarship on the subject.  I also found two articles in the Atlantic and the New Yorker discussing the subject that appear to be inspired by his book.  The New Yorker article is very good.

Good topic, thanks for pointing it out to me.
