Switchgear
https://www.google.com/amp/mobile.nytimes.com/2015/09/11/sports/football/a-1-point-score-in-the-nfl-now-its-possible.amp.html Quote Among the tweaks to the N.F.L. rules this season were several to extra points. The one that got the most attention is that the kicks will be attempted from the 15-yard line to make them a little more difficult. Less noticed was a change to the safety rules on extra points and 2-point conversions. A safety is now possible for either team and will be worth 1 point. Rule 11-3-2-c states, “If the try results in what would ordinarily be a safety against either team, one point is awarded to the opponent.” In the past in the N.F.L., if an extra point was blocked, the ball was declared dead if a defender got hold of it. Under the new rules, he can try to return it, possibly all the way for a touchdown, which would be worth 2 points. Perhaps a defensive player recovers the ball in the field of play, and while returning it he retreats into the end zone and is pulled down there. That will be a 1-point safety for the kicking team. This was in effect as of 2015, but didn't happen. Seems like it is incredibly unlikely. Think we'll see it any time soon? Not just a 1 point safety, but a 1 point final score. BornaSkinsFan83
If I've learned one thing from sports it's that anything is possible. It's possible I never see it in my lifetime and it's possible it in back to back weeks.
Riggo-toni
I didn't even know there was such a thing as a drop kick goal until Belichik had Flutie pull it off as a sort of retirement gift. http://www.espn.com/nfl/news/story?id=2277308

Well, that could happen if the kick hits either uprights, come back into the field play is grabbed by a D that is then tackled in its own EZ I suppose. It wouldn't even need to hit the upright. It could just be a tipped ball that is popped up and then tackled in the end zone. At least I think that's how it would work. Dan T.
It's a dead ball if a place kick hits the upright, so that scenario won't happen. But it's interesting to think, though, that a team could conceivably have a final score of one. The old trivia fact was that the only impossible score in the NFL was one. I guess that's no longer the case.
Redskin4ever
Could you imagine the national outrage if this were to happen. Not because the rule should or shouldn't be in place, but because no one will know that rule was in place. Even he players will be outraged ala Donovan McNabb not knowing about ties and no one knowing what the tuck rule was. Heck we may even have blowhards like Ray Lewis coming out to say the NFL made up the one point play during the game to help someone win.
Switchgear
I think the drop kick is going to make a comeback. Not this year, not next year, but within 5 years, if the extra point gets pushed back further. If the choice is between a 40+ yard field goal or a 20-ish yard drop kick, someone will make the calculation that the drop kick is the more likely play, and everyone will follow suit. If they are successful, that is.
