Anti-Abortion Activists Launch Civil War Over Florida’s ‘Baby Boxes’

A feud between two anti-abortion activists over so-called “baby boxes” in Florida has gotten so bad that one filed a lawsuit against her rival, accusing him of undermining her business and asking a federal judge to shut him up.

A lawsuit obtained by The Daily Beast pits right-to-life crusader Monica Kelsey, whose “Safe Haven Baby Boxes” have made her a quasi-celebrity on the right-wing speaking circuit (as well as TikTok), against Nick Silverio, founder of Miami-based A Safe Haven for Newborns, whom Kelsey accuses of making “false and misleading statements” about her controversial device. As a result, the lawsuit contends, “several fire stations… have refused to respond or speak to [Kelsey] regarding installations” of them.

The suit reveals intense backbiting between the two, and offers a front-row seat to a unique internecine battle in the deeper folds of the anti-abortion faithful. Both Kelsey, who prays over every new box she installs, and Silverio, whose organization is affiliated with Heartbeat International, a global network of “pro-life pregnancy resource centers” meant primarily to steer women away from abortions, are deeply religious.

“Monica has been sharing her pro-life views with millions of people since February 2011 and works diligently to support pro-life legislators who take a stand to defend the lives of children conceived in rape,” Kelsey’s website tells visitors.

Kelsey’s attorney said he would gauge her interest in an interview for this article, then went dark.

Silverio, who takes pains to present himself in mainstream media interviews as apolitical, founded A Safe Haven for Newborns, which has for years held events at Mar-a-Lago and other properties owned and operated by former President Donald Trump. Silverio is holding the organization’s 7th annual golf tournament on May 17, at the Trump National Doral Miami.

Silverio told The Daily Beast he believes baby boxes are simply the wrong way to surrender a newborn, but declined to comment further.

In her lawsuit against Silverio, Kelsey claims Silverio slandered, defamed, and libeled her by criticizing the baby box method at a meeting last July with public information officers for various Florida fire departments.

“She’s on a mission from God to save babies,” adoptee-rights advocate and occasional Kelsey nemesis Marley Greiner told The Daily Beast. “And if you don't agree with what she does, you’re an enemy.”

Kelsey’s suit says the South Trail Fire and Rescue District reached out to Kelsey in 2021 about installing a Safe Haven Baby Box at a fire station in Fort Myers. But the deal hadn’t come to fruition, it says. Two years later, Silverio provided “false and misleading statements” about the boxes, in “both verbal and written format,” during the meeting, the suit goes on. Among other things, Kelsey’s lawsuit claims Silverio told the PIOs that Safe Haven Baby Boxes weren’t up to code, are unreliable and potentially unsafe, and could be used by terrorists to plant a bomb in a firehouse or hospital.

^^^ The dude also asked Kirk if he believed humans have tails and if he has a tail...then told Kirk that embryos have tails at the beginning and they slowly lose the tail during development...then told Kirk that, by his answer, he should believe that embryos weren't considered human beings at that stage.

West Virginia Senate passes bill requiring schools show a fetal development video

Quote

West Virginia's Republican-supermajority Senate approved a bill that would require public schools to show a video on fetal development produced by an anti-abortion rights group.

The bill, referred to as the "Baby Olivia" bill, would require public schools to show a three-minute, high-definition video showing the "development of the brain, heart, sex organs, and other vital organs in early fetal development" to eighth graders and tenth graders.

The video is produced by Live Action, an anti-abortion rights advocacy group that produces media content. It begins by showing a sperm and egg meeting, followed by a flash of light and a narrator saying, "this is where life begins, a new human being has come into existence."

Quote

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecology is strongly opposed to the video and proposed legislation.

"Like much anti-abortion misinformation, the 'Baby Olivia' video is designed to manipulate the emotions of viewers rather than to share evidence-based, scientific information about embryonic and fetal development," a representative told NPR in an email. "Many of the claims made in this video are not aligned with scientific fact, but rather reflect the biased and ideological perspectives of the extremists who created the video."

Montana judge declares 3 laws restricting abortion unconstitutional

Three Montana laws restricting abortion rights, including a ban on abortions after 20 weeks, have been struck down in court as unconstitutional.

District Court Judge Kurt Krueger wrote in his ruling that the regulations attempt to impose severe burdens on abortion access without clear justification or credible evidence.

The laws, passed by the Montana legislature in 2021, would have banned abortion at 20 weeks, barred doctors from prescribing medication abortions via telehealth services, required a 24-hour waiting period for medication abortions, and would have required doctors to offer an ultrasound before an abortion.

The laws had been blocked by a preliminary injunction that was granted in October 2021. Under the court's ruling, the laws cannot be enforced.

Krueger's decision referenced a Montana Supreme Court precedent from 1999 finding the state's constitutional right to privacy protects access to pre-viability abortion. The state's high court reaffirmed that precedent in a ruling last spring.

A spokesperson for Attorney General of Montana Austin Knudsen said the state plans to appeal the ruling to the Montana Supreme Court, saying he's committed to "protecting the health and safety of women and unborn babies."

SHOCKING Leaked Video: GOP Discusses Executing Rape Victims, Banning IVF

Twelve Republican candidates for the Texas Legislature signed this extreme group's pledge to file legislation to ban IVF and make abortion a capital punishment crime.

Over the last decade, I’ve watched hundreds of Republican speeches and events. The video below is one of the most shocking and terrifying things I’ve ever seen from the far right. Twelve Republican candidates have signed their pledge, agreeing to file this legislation if elected.

The video was taken in Granbury at a True Texas Project event. The speaker is Paul Brown, the Director of Policy and Operations of a fringe group called “Abolish Abortion Texas.”

The video starts with Brown saying, “An eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth.” He discussed how women who have abortions should be executed under “God’s law.” He then goes on to talk about how abortion is murder, starting at the moment of fertilization, even before implantation.

Brown calls the PlanB pill, or the Morning After pill, a form of abortion. Then he says other categories of abortion include what happens in IVF when a fertilized egg is created and then destroyed.

Soon after Brown talks about executing women, he says, “We are an explicitly Christian organization.” Because their form of religion justifies killing people.

In terms of “abortion abolition,” here is what this group means:

  • The banning of IVF.
  • The prohibition of emergency contraception.
  • The ban of some forms of birth control, like IUDs.
  • Capital punishment for women who have abortions.
  • Capital punishment for doctors who perform abortions.

The Abortion Abolition speaker went on to say that they would never endorse an abortion in cases of incest or rape.

Meaning that if a woman or child in Texas is raped and had an abortion, she would still be liable for the death penalty.

I saw a focus group where some stupid girl (young girl, mind you), basically said she would be willing to throw our democracy under the bus and not vote for Biden because of Gaza. Well, are you also willing to give your own bodily rights as well? Yeah, let Donald Trump win so he can treat you like ****, that'll show him, won't it?

I hope that do it, people are way to eager to forget and forgive. I hope the GOP does it and it takes a massive blue wave to wipe these ****ers out once and for all. The campaign is ramping up and people are starting to pay attention. Why the GOP would want to focus on this now (or at all) is baffling...but welcomed.

And I bet that idiot girl's idiot parents voted Dubya in 2000 because Gore wasn't progressive enough.

Let's vote for the opposition party to teach my party that their candidate doesn't 💯 agree with me. 🙄

Make it make sense.
