KingGibbs
Hey guys. We want to remodel our master bath and I was going to tear out the tub and build a stand alone tile shower, but the way they built the walls around the tub makes it more of a project than anticipated. Have you used or know anyone that has used Bathfitters or any other company and what has been your/their experience in regards to quality of work and issues? Thanks
DButz65
My ex's father used bath fitters once and it was almost as expensive as re doing everything with tile, bath fitters was just doing the surround walls in his shower and floor and new glass, so it wasn't even real tile. I wouldnt ever use them personally after how much he said it was going to cost
Corcaigh
I haven't used them but my understanding is that they are a product company that will stick their acrylic product in an existing setting, rather than a business to use if bathroom remodeling is required. @DCGoldPants
I got an estimate once. The guy was super pushy. The price like DButz said was high. Actually more than re-doing everything. Then he said I couldn't think about it. It was the deal he can only offer that day or something. I ended up using a local guy. Support small business. He did a decent job for much much less. frostyj
I have talked to Bathfitters at the Fairfax Fair, gave them my info and they pestered me for months to come out an do an estimate even after I said I wasn't interested. If you are thinking about using someone like Bathfitters, why not DIY with Bathtub Surrounds and a tub insert?
Bang
Same as SGP. Guy quoted me nearly five grand to fit one bathtub, took a half hour to get rid of him. ~Bang Course, now you can just paint it however you want, and use this stuff. ~Bang
LadySkinsFan
Years ago (1998 or 9), I used Metropolitian Bath and Tile to redo my one bathroom. They took everything down to studs, new floor, new tub, new tile around the tub, new sink and toilet, and I think they even painted or maybe I painted the rest. It was $5K then. But it wasn't acrylic, everything was tile. It took the guy a week (1 guy) but he did a great job. I used the store that was in Bowie MD. I don't know if they are still in business, but they will do the job right. Get a company that only does bathrooms.
Major Harris
. Get a company that only does bathrooms. I don't know about that. Specialists are often more expensive, ther are plent of gc / handyman types that can do a bathroom.
KingGibbs
Thanks for your input guys. I can do a remodel myself, but was just looking to see if the rebath was the way to go to avoid the mess and time involved.
SteveFromYellowstone
I saw a review posted online by a former salesman for bathfitter that said they are notorious for overcharging and you're better off going with a contractor that will do the whole bathroom for cheaper

Yep, hubby found the guy that did ours at a bar, out of work. He did both of our bathrooms. Did a bunch of other general stuff we needed help with (changed out sliding glass door, removed wallpaper, etc.) He was glad to get the work & we were happy to help someone out. He was a serious-drinking Irishman who looked exactly like James Hetfield. Former Marine who knew my Gunny from my ship...ok, I'm babbling. I guess you know to measure everything a thousand times to make sure tub/shower/vanities can be maneuvered around corners & up stairs. We had to remove handrails, etc. End babble. Forehead
We used a local home improvement place when we redid our bathroom. We never looked at bath fitters, but the idea of just covering existing stuff up with something new doesn't really appeal to me.
