Obamacare...(new title): GOP DEATH PLAN: Don-Ryan's Express

So, long as people are going out on limbs, anybody feel like speculating on what's going to happen?

Me, I think it's a pretty safe bet that the court is going to rule with the Republicans. (Heck, they've invented fictional constitutional rights to help out the GOP on lesser issues. And in this case, they have a phrase from the actual law that they can point at, so they don't have to invent anything).

And when they do, millions of Americans will instantly have their health insurance go up, by hundreds (maybe a thousand, in some cases) a month.

I've read comments from various Republucans claiming that they have a plan for what to do, when that happens. (Obviously the Republucans haven't SAID what this plan is).

I can only conclude that we're about to see what seems to be the standard GOP method of governance.

1). Intentionally create a crisis.

2). Then pull out a piece of legislation that they've been working on, in secret, for months.

3). And announce that the only solution they will permit, for the crisis they created, is the one they created.

I think we can all take it for granted that this solution will include:

1). Using federal power to declare that any insurance sold across state lines is exempt from all state regulations in the target state. (This will be sold to the public as "giving consumers more choices". It won't actually deliver on that. What it will actually to is trigger a race to the bottom, in which states will compete to see which state can write laws that most favor the insurance companies. And then all the companies will move to that state. But, this process will take several years. In the short run it might actually look good).

2). And they will pass "malpractice reform", which will make insurance companies immune from any punishment at all when they get caught violating the few consumer protection laws that still exist.

But I don't see those measures coming remotely close to placating the people who've been screwed. They're going to have to come up with some kind of subsidies to replace the subsidies which the voters were already getting. I just st don't know how they'll plan on dancing around that one. My gut says it will involve throwing money at Red States (and encouraging them to then divert it to other things).

Ironically, huge victory for Republicans.

The worst kept secret in Washington is that is many Republicans were terrified of the subsidies being gutted. Today they can just release a press release attack ACA and not have to do anything.

Agreed.

I was kinda looking forward to what would happen, when millions of Americans find out that their health insurance is going to go up by hundreds, maybe a thousand dollars a month, because they live in a state that votes Republican.

Granted, I would have preferred to watch that, from a safe, uninvolved, distance.

I couldn't wait for the liberal breakdown on this board.  Disappointed as well.

I prefer the ruling be what it was.  I like watching this train roll down the tracks.

It's fine republicans would have just gone to the heritage foundation to see what solution they would recommend for health care. They would have pushed it through and solved the crisis.

Skinsfan_1215, was your comment a reminder that Romney care, upon which the ACA was modeled. was a Heritage foundation brain child?

I am just wondering how many got that jab.

Same, I don't want hear more about socialism failing because of our sanctions. Let's let this play out into 2016.

Serious question ... how complex is the ACA that something needs 900 pages to describe it?

Given the intellect and attention span of our elected representatives, and the partisan brinkmanship in the legislative process, it's ludicroous to have them voting on 900 page documents. If, due to partisan politics, four poorly written or considered words in those 900 pages could cause millions to lose health coverage, there needs to be a better way. Maybe they could vote on an "executive summmary" that makes the intent of a law clear, and alllows detailed legal language to be refined in that framework.

Correct. GOP going after ACA bc it's socialism or whatever is insane, Obama gave them their solution to healthcare. Not a Canadian or European actual socialist (not a bad word) solution. It's just about the most centrist/lean right solution to a problem that needed action, and I like reminding people of that.

Insurances offer through Obamacare is giving our lady in the Registration Girl fits.  She advise to please read and re-read the fine print before you sign up for one.

Unlike the golden days before Obamacare when all insurance plans were simple, easy, affordable, and covered everything!

ACA plans are absolutely complicated. I have been researching them a lot for my wife starting end of next month. There are a ton of rules and fine print and finding the right plan for her will take me several hours of research and number crunching.

But so are 99.9% of ALL health care plans. I have insurance through my employer. Every time something comes up - I am constantly having to read the fine print, call some 1-800 number, sit on hold, ask a hundred questions and figure out my coverage and costs for procedures and care.

The terms of coverage for my private plan is 30+ pages long.

If your complaint is that the system is too complicated. I agree. But that is nothing new. That is a problem with our ****ty overall system.

I laughed.  Enjoyed the joke, hope others did too.

'Course, if we had single payer, then every health care practitioner in your county would know what is and isn't covered, and what the patient's cost would be.

:)

And we'd cut out the middle man that collects a hefty amount of money for processing paperwork.

"Healthcare" is not a voluntary system. Your participation is guaranteed by virtual of being alive and having any sort of health issue. When something happens to you, you go to the nearest hospital that can treat you. You don't have a heart attack while visiting family in another state and then get to fly back home for treatment so you're "in network."

The whole idea of insurance for healthcare, when as a society we've determined you cannot deny treatment to someone who needs it, is backasswards.
