joeknows
Couldnt find a similar thread topic so i was interested in whom here plays what... what are your experiences... what equipment you use.... band page links etc..... everything about being a musician I will be 40 this june. I am a music lover. I started playing drums at age 8. I played in school bands from 4 th grade till hs graduation. I played in various garage bands until i married in my mid 20's. I started playing again about a year ago. Some of you may remeber my cancer issues about a year ago. It was then i decided to start playing again. It has been an incredible experience reuniting with my lost love Especially since i still "have it". ( the talent... not the cancer) My interest in production and recording have grown and become a major part of my new hobby. I also recently purchased a bass and guitar. I got a squire affinity pbass... I also got my new pride and joy... a prs soapbar 2 se maple. Learning the bass is coming easily .... the 6 string not so much.... How about posting your personal equipment pics, reviews etc here and lets start a little musicians community. I look forward to anyones participation and will post pics of my setup in a day or so when i get back to a puter..... ---------- Post added April-20th-2012 at 01:36 AM ---------- Of course after i post this all the threads pop up for me. If it needs to be merged thats kool Othetwise i will be coming to it seeking production advice etc...
CRobi21
I'm bored, so I guess I'll go first. I've been playing guitar for coming up on 3 years I think. My band and I are gonna be playing some gigs this summer and hopefully well beyond that. We fall in the blues/classic rock category I'd say. I've posted our stuff on here before, but here's a youtube link to some of our recording we have: http://www.youtube.com/user/MrPistolPete21/videos As far as my gear goes, I play on a Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro: Amp is just a Fender Frontman (Its a decent amp, but am looking to upgrade soon): I also have a Fender Deluxe Player's Stratocaster: And for my acoustic I went with this Fender CD140SCE Acoustic-Electric:

A buddy of mine has a PRS guitar, not sure which model, but they are fantastic guitars man. It can really handle a variety of genres, and has great tones. And there are many very famous players that prefer PRS guitars these days.

CrypticVillain
Amp is just a Fender Frontman (Its a decent amp, but am looking to upgrade soon): http://www.blamepro.com/fendertone/gifs/Fender_Frontman_212R_Combo__476x428.jpg My cousin has that same Amp. He uses it on Sundays in our church band.... I play the piano and keyboard, but technically I don't know how to play. About 99% of what I play comes from ear. I can't read music and I barely know any chords. However, I have made tons of music beats on FL Studio and Garageband. I plan on putting out a rap mixtape this summer just for fun. I do want to learn how to play the piano better though. I feel that if I can learn how to play well, it could further enhance my skills.
RVAbrendan
I love soapbar pickups! I started playing tenor sax when I was in 5th grade...still play to this day. I have a Yanagisawa... Played in a few ska/reggae acts. Started playing guitar in 9th grade - been in bands ever since. Currently, I use: Egnater Rebel 30 Best head I've ever owned. Cleans like a Hot Rod Deluxe, Overdrive like a JCM800. Running that through a Marshall 2x12 with eminence speakers Play on a custom made strat with a Seymour Duncan invader pickup in the bridge and coil-tap that I don't have any pictures of. Just self-recorded and released an album with a group I'm in. Listen to and download for free at: http://tinyfightingtrees.bandcamp.com
Boots
Hey Joe, I've been playing drums since I was around 10. I just turned 45 this past january. Like you, I played in all sorts of garage bands and cover bands over the years. I currently play a set of Roland V-drums. Going on 7 years now, I had a battle with cancer that kept me out of things for nearly a year. Once I was done with all of the chemo, radiation and surgery, I got back with my band. That lasted for another couple years. After that band split up, I started looking around for a new challenge, and got involved with several local community theaters. The V-drums have really been a great tool for these gigs, as the large number of sounds I can play helps me cover a much wider number of instruments than I could with just acoustic drums. Its all about figuring out what tones is best for you, and the research what kind of equipment will give that tone. I used to sell guitars/amps at Sam Ash, so I was lucky enough to be able to play around with a bunch of different models. My take on most Line6 amps is this - good for a small combo or practice amp. They have tons of built in digital effects. Keep in mind most Line6 amps are solid-state, so you won't get that tube tone.

ffxdrummer
Wasn't sure if I should put this here or in the Drum Solos/Percussion Celebration Thread, but here's a little jam I recorded with a buddy over the weekend, hopefully you guitarists can appreciate it as well. We're both a little rusty and this is our first jam in a while and first time recording anything in years, but it felt really good to lay something down. https://soundcloud.com/ffxdrummer/doug-and-dan-jam Equipment: Drums Roland TD-6V drums. Guitar Beats me, the kind with strings? The bass lick is a stock loop from my drum module. There are 4 separate guitar tracks layered on there, 2 rhythm, 1 pad and the lead part. Comments are welcome, but I really just wanted to share with the community and hope you guys like it. It's short, it's not world-class, but it's ours and it made us happy! I'd love to hear what other Extremeskins members have recorded, and I hope I have more of this post in the future.
CaptChaos86
I have pretty much played music my whole life. I play guitar and drums. Have played in various bands and done the travel and touring thing and have kinda put that on the backburner since the birth of my first child. But i still love music and am looking to get something started later on this year. My most recent project is here http://bracingforimpact1.bandcamp.com/. Ive always been into punk and pop punk music so naturally that is what that is. We have since split up but we had alot of fun playing those songs and recording them. Have also played drums for a few different bands and thats what i will be doing in the next band im in. On those demos there i play rhythm guitar and do the vocals. So im ready to just sit and bang on drums instead of being the frontman. Am currently looking for a good kit and have recently sold most of my guitar gear, but its like a drug, ive been out of music for about 6 months and im itching to get back into it. USS Redskins
Great stuff guys... I am a strat guy - have had like 5 now (wish I had kept them all but now only have 1). Been playing for 30+ years now and would love to get back into it. I fear I would need allot of new equipment. My basement studio - have a laptop with Guitar Tracks software and interface. Its a great program, though basically, it takes over the entire computer. I have had it about 2 years now and its allot of fun. On the wall I have an LP Copy for gutting and fun - have some humbuckers I got from China for $15 each and they sound pretty good... A 1987 charvel - my first metal guitar- my old buddy. On the right is a Jackson Dinky I bough in 2004 - love the neck... flat and wide. My Strat - bought in 2012. Probably the 5th one I have owned. US. Awesome. also an Ibanez - just b/c I wanted one. Man, it plays like a dream but I did something to the bridge and it badly needs a intonation set up - I can do a strat but those locking bridges are impossible. I am not much of a guitar tech... the blue is a cheap bass I bought... I sold my Twin Reverb in 1989 for a 100 watt Marshall head -tho I loved the Marshall - I made a big mistake letting that Twin go. I am on a budget nowadays so I recently bought this Peavey Vypyr (cheesy name). its ok - I made a mistake here...
