Invade Pittsburgh 2012 - Oct. 28th

You can buy returned tix at most NFL venues, even Green Bay. However, in places like Pitt and GB purchasing those seats entails waiting in line at the TO on gameday morning. The lines can be hundreds of people long and there's no promise you'll get tix. The TOs don't know how many extra seats they'll have to offer until about 2 hrs before kickoff. People start lining up at 7:00am for a 1:00 ko. Not worth ur tailgate time IMO.

Very different from how it works here.

So we would have to get a hold of those tickets before they are returned. Any idea how that works? Find a player willing to work with fans to secure a large block of tickets? You really only need a block of 20-30 tickets to make it look like an invasion took place. What about ticket packages to away games that are available through the visiting team? I know the Redskins usually have several packages available...or at least used to.

Based on research a few years back, you can't buy the returned tix until gameday morning bc they don't know how many (if any) tix they'll have to offer.

As far as getting a cluster of seats together, I don't know if its possible in Pitt bc nearly every seat at Heinz is likely assigned to a STH, unlike here where people can buy up entire rows for single games through brokers and travel agencies, etc.

The seats that can be had on Stubhub, Ebay etc. are probably the best way to get a quantity.

  • 2 months later...

Just wanted to give this a bump... Now that the season is over and we're anxiously awaiting the Draft and other off-season activities, there is no better time to start thinking about the trip to Pittsburgh. If anyone has any helpful tips or ideas for this trip send them my way... I hope everyone considers going and making this a fun event. HAIL

I would definitley check in with a tour group. I know there was Redskins Road Trips, you may want to look them up and coordinate with them.

If there is anyone local to Pittsburgh talk with them also.

Hopefully we have a stud QB to cheer for in Pittsburgh

Man, I know this is a bumped thread, but I don't get the Pittsburgh hate. I like that city.

I don't think it's Hate for Pittsburgh, I think it's displaced hate for what the Steeler fans did to the MNF game @ Fed Ex.

Hate would be all the hate that I recieve in my Phillies gear by the Nats fans in Citizens Bank Park South - thats hatred, hahaha.

We don't need a stinkin towel to wave. I don't want to be like Steeler fans. I'd rather score 6 touchdowns and have to have them hear all the Redskin fans singing Hail to the Redskins. That drives teams and their fans up the wall.
6 touchdowns?..The Redskins?. That's like half a season's worth of production.:(

Rent a bus to get people up there. Have all the tailgate stuff ready to go so that we're all tailgating together even if we're not sitting together.

And lastly... SOMEONE CREATE SOME ****ING CUSTOM TOWELS!

I've started looking at some charter busses... looks like the approximate cost would be somewhere between $50-$60 per person... I'll keep looking.. hoping to get that price down closer to $40/pp.

Because the drive is so short and the cost would probably be cheaper if we all just carpooled, people may rather do that.. so i'll have to take a poll of how many would take advantage of a bus..

I do think a bus rental would make things more convenient for people though.

Personally, i'm more concerned about Baltimore fans invading FedEx. But back to the topic, I will be at the Steelers/Skins game this year. Unfortunately probably with a bunch of Steelers fans.

It all depends on the teams performance. If the game is held in DEC and we are 4-10 and the Ratbirds are 11-3, then you'll see a ton of purple in the crowd.

I will be there. My fiance's entire family lives in Pitt, so we will definitely be attending.

I will say this, going to the casinos and bars there (the few times I have), it is all Steelers fans. BUT, the people who do where non-steelers stuff are usually sporting the Redskins. I have been to the casino a lot there, and have never gone without seeing at least one skins hat/jacket/jersey. I asked them how they became skins fans, and most said they loved them back in the 80s.

I will definitely be there.

Their small stadium + very good team + big time tradition = expensive tickets on the secondary market....be prepared for that. Not many STH'ers unload their tix on ebay/stubhub or CL. Even if 10k Skins fans were willing to make the trip with bottomless pockets of cash in hand...10k tickets simply wont be available. My suggestion is to jump on the tix fast, before the buzz of the season gets cranked up.

I plan on going, my moms side of the family are all yinzers and live up there & i have to endure all the stiller mania junk everytime i visit.....so ive had this game circled for awhile.

Buying early usually equates to paying more for NFL tix. Even though Pitt is usually good and relevant late in the season, prices will likely come down as the season progresses. I've watched the market year round for several years.

Your def right about the tix being expensive due to small stadium, passionate fanbase, constant winning, people not selling, etc.

I'll probably need four uppers together, I'm prepaired to spend in the $600 range. I could buy 12 seats at FedEx on that budget.

I currently live outside of Allentown Pennsylvania. I was born in Bloomsburg Pennsylvania. My Dad is a Steelers fan, most of my friends are Steelers fans. Combine this with the lack of wins the Redskins have against Pittsburgh, I'd love to see the Skins beat them. I too will be at that game, wearing my Redskins gear. I need to get a ticket first, but I've been in discussions with a few friends about going. HAIL.

wow! All the steeler hate! LOL After going to the steelers/bengals game last year i can tell you there will be no invasion. I counted 6 opposing fans at that game. My wife is a DIE HARD skins fan and we will prolly be making the trip also.. Possibly with two more skins fans as well. I wish you guys the best on this. I actually enjoy having other fans to talk with at the games to get different perspectives. If we all pulled for the same team what fun would that be?? I enjoy a little smack talking back in forth (all in good fun though), it makes the gameday experience all the better.
