Predicto
If the Capital Hill Police are following the Onion to patrol the Hill then they all deserve to be fired. There is absolutely no reason to think that is what happened.
AsburySkinsFan
There is absolutely no reason to think that is what happened. I was replying to H_H's suggestion in the following.... ANY, and I repeat, ANY indication that there is a hostage situation, or gunfire at the Capitol, MUST be investigated IMMEDIATELY.Anything else would be TRULY idioitc. thebluefood
Yeah, you really do need to consider the source. If something was really going down at the Capitol, I promise you the Onion wouldn't break the story, nor would they tweet about it. It's a false news site. *FALSE* news. End of story. visionary
I think it might be a mistake to assume that everyone knows what the Onion is. It's very likely that some may think it a regular news source and upon seeing the tweets show up in their timeline, freak out.
AsburySkinsFan
I think it might be a mistake to assume that everyone knows what the Onion is. Do you think it is a mistake to assume that those who have specifically chosen to follow The Onion's twitter feeds know what the Onion is? It's very likely that some may think it a regular news source and upon seeing the tweets show up in their timeline, freak out. Only if you're subscribing to The Onion. No Excuses
Things get re-tweeted all the time on twitter. If people start spreading what the Onion posted initially as a joke, it will eventually spread throughout twitter. The story never mentioned that the Capitol Police or other investigating authorities got 'breaking news' first hand from the Onion feed.

As I already said, that isn't exactly how twitter works. I get stuff all the time in my twitter feed originally put up by people I don't subscribe to but somene I follow does. Koolblue13
Well to be fair, the onion is quickly becoming the most reliable and honest news source, not on comedy central.
