Ah, makes sense, but as for #5, from wiki:

Texas oil tycoon Clint Murchison, Jr. was having a hard time bringing an NFL team to Dallas, Texas. He tried buying two teams, but the negotiations fell through. In 1958, Murchison heard that George Preston Marshall, owner of the Washington Redskins, was eager to sell the team. Just as the sale was about to be finalized, Marshall called for a change in terms. Murchison was outraged and canceled the whole deal.[7]

Around this time, Marshall had a falling out with the Redskin band director, Barnee Breeskin. Breeskin had written the music to the Redskins fight song, now a staple at the stadium; additionally, Marshall's wife penned the lyrics to the song.[7] Breeskin wanted revenge after the failed negotiations with Marshall. He approached Tom Webb, Murchison’s lawyer, and sold the rights for $2,500.[7]

Murchison then decided to create his own team, with the support of NFL expansion committee chairman, George Halas. Halas decided to put the proposition of a Dallas franchise before the NFL owners, which needed to have unanimous approval in order to pass. The only owner against the proposal was George Preston Marshall. However, Marshall found out that Murchison owned the rights to Washington's fight song, so a deal was finally struck. If Marshall showed his approval of the Dallas franchise, Murchison would return the song. The Cowboys were then founded and began playing in 1960.[7]

GPM seems like he was somewhat of a dick here. And I actually gotta give Dallas fans props for this:
In December 1961, an unknown number of Cowboys fans sneeked into D. C. Stadium, armed with bags of chicken feed.[7] When Alaskan snow dogs were to drag Santa Claus onto the field during the halftime show, the pranksters would unleash dozens of hungry chickens onto the field - 75 white, one black.[8] The significance of the black chicken was to symbolize how Marshall was the only owner in the league who would not recruit an African-American football player; Marshall stating, "We'll start signing Negroes when the Harlem Globetrotters start signing whites."[9]

GPM was a world class dick. He was the last owner to integrate, almost 20 years after the first team. He was a world class racist. His Globe Trotter's quote only shows his ignorance.

BUT....Murchison used the rights to Hail to the Redskins to get the last vote for his new team in the form of GPM's vote. Marshall didn't want any teams in the south because the Skins were, at the time, the only team broadcast as local throughout the entire south....

So Murchison blackmailed GPM into voting for his new team, by purchasing the rights to HTTR. He then told GPM that he had to either vote for the expansion or pay $2,000 every time the band played the song. Easy decision, I guess....

That's another reason - The rivalry started before the Cowboys were officially even a team. They are named the Cowboys, in part, to be the diametric opposites of the Redskins. You know, Cowboys and Indians.

Total aside man, but how does NY fall in terms of Giants/ Jets fans? Who holds the most sway in the City/ surrounding areas in your experience?

Often wondered that.

Hail.

Giants by far!

If i had to guess in this area its like 80/20, maybe. Almost everyone u meet is a damn Giants fan. It sucks. :ols:

Almost no one roots for the true NY team (for now) Buffalo.

Funny you mention that...If GPM hadn't gone back on his word to Murchison (hell, there might not even BE a DC team then...) or had just gotten the rights from the beginning.
