IRVING, Texas - For the majority of these coaches, the last time they walked off the field occurred in either early-to-mid January. And the last time they left Cowboys Stadium was on Dec. 19, when the Cowboys defeated the Redskins.

But new wide receiver coach Jimmy Robinson is the exception in both scenarios.

Robinson, who is also the Cowboys' assistant head coach this year, walked off the field just two weeks ago - and at Cowboys Stadium of all places.

He joins the team after having helped the Packers win Super Bowl XLV, a perfect sendoff to his next journey. The Cowboys will be the sixth team for Robinson, who enters his 22nd season as an NFL assistant - all of which have been as a wide receivers coach.

Without a doubt, Robinson said leaving Green Bay, where he spent the previous five years, for the Cowboys was a bittersweet feeling.

"On one hand it's the best time to leave because you just won a championship," Robinson said. "But maybe the worst time to leave because maybe you'd like to defend a championship and try to win another one. It really was the right time, the right opportunity. It's a chance to grow in the business a little bit and to move back south to some warm weather."

Of course, Robinson spent the week in Dallas for Super Bowl XLV, which included one of the worst snow/ice storms this area has seen in some 25 years. But that didn't change his decision or his excitement, and neither did the Cowboys' 6-10 record from last season. Robinson is also ready to reunite with Jason Garrett, who was a backup quarterback with the Giants from 2000-04. Robinson coached receivers in New York from 1998-2003.

"I think this is a great organization and a great opportunity for me," Robinson said. "With these (receivers), I think we've got a deep group, a talented group. I'm anxious to work with them."

When it comes to talented receivers, there might not be one with more talent than Dez Bryant. His rookie season consisted of many highlight-reel plays, both as a receiver and return specialist, but was also plagued with injuries, which ultimately ended his year with four games left on the schedule.

Robinson said he has met with Bryant, but has yet to study his game films from last season. Then again, Robinson said he studied plenty of his college tape and knows the type of player he is inheriting.

"He's a very, very talented young man. I think he loves football," Robinson said. "I don't know Dez well yet, but I had a chance to visit with him yesterday. He's a guy that as time goes by, he's going to show he can do it all. It's my job to help him to do that. It's going to be a gradual process, but again, I'm anxious for the opportunity."

And Robinson should know a great receiver when he has one. In his previous 21 NFL seasons, he's coached the likes of Andre Rison, Marvin Harrison, Amani Toomer and Joe Horn, before heading to Green Bay, where the current crop consists of Pro Bowlers Greg Jennings and Donald Driver.

Even with the talent he's guided in the past, Robinson isn't so sure he's coached someone like Bryant.

"There aren't many guys out there like him," Robinson said. "My first year (in Green Bay) we drafted Greg Jennings and we saw what he became - just a great, great player. He doesn't have the sheer size of a Dez Bryant. He's a different kind of player, but a great Pro Bowl player in his own right. Donald Driver you can't say enough about. I'm not sure I did a whole lot to help Donald. Donald was already a Pro Bowl player when I got there and now he's played 12 years. A great leader for the group."

Aside from Miles Austin, whom Robinson has been told is likely traveling out of the country, the new coach has been able to visit with all of the current receivers, including Roy Williams.

"I think he's a very talented receiver. He's had a number of good years in this league, " Robinson said of Williams. "Again, like all of them, I'm anxious to work with Roy and get to know him and see if I can help him, see if I can help him be a better player. That's a coach's job. Really it's as simple as that: How can I help you improve? How can I bring you from this level to this level? How can I help you from being a backup to maybe moving into a starter or a guy that plays quite a bit? Everybody has a different role."

And Robinson is no different. While coaching receivers will remain the same, Robinson also cherishes the title of assistant head coach to Jason Garrett.

"It's another voice, (from) a guy that's been around a long time and seen a lot ⦠the good and the bad," Robinson said. "I kind of view it as an opportunity to provide some ideas on different ways of doing things, maybe structurally. But again as time goes by, I think it'll define itself a little bit. It's just a veteran-experience type thing to help get this program in the direction we want it to be in."

I am curious what the OP thinks that he should have said...

IMHO, he's right. They do have talent.

RW has tons of talent and zero drive. To think that he did not have a workout regiment prior to being traded to Dallas is crazy to me.

Miles has more drive than talent. The kid just doesn't have good hands for a WR. If he snags the ball, however, Watch out! The kid is strong and driven.

Dez is an unknown. The kid looks to have fire. He has the size and he seems to have decent quickness and top-end speed. What we don't know is if a quarterback can trust him (ala RW11) to be where he is supposed to be at the time he is supposed to be there. I worry that the Dallas media, ESPN, and the Skins fans from this board are going to turn him into a Diva. A few less posts by the OP and some of the other Cowboy stalkers might go a long way towards his career.

Yeah, those guys showed some MAJOR talent in that 6-10 season...:ols:

I don't care who you get to coach those WRs, your o-line is going to be a disaster for the next three years at least. That means as Romo sits to pee ages, he's likely to be hurt more often...and with that TALENTED TRIO of running backs , your offense will become a shadow of its former self.

Look for Jerruh to spend his number one on a RB or corner...forget the o-line.

BTW, it sounds from the grumblings in pukesville, that a lot of folks have soured on Ratliff...he was good when he was hungry...now, not so much.

Well they certainly are a more talented then our group. Especially if Moss leaves via FA.

As much **** as Bryant gets he would immediately be our number one receiver. That's a hard pill to swallow, but it's reality. Of course that is subject to change come FA and draft.

I'm not worried about Rat at all...he'll continue to play well. As far as the signing of Robinson goes, that is great news. If he can't get anything out of RW11, then its time to let him go....

Bryant will go down in history with Chad Johnson and T.O. "Talented" guys who never won anything. Except he won't have their stats.

....then why would he "go down in history" with them? That doesn't even make sense, without SB wins and without their stats.

so you would rather have your starting 3 than Bryant, Williams and Austin?

If they are so great why don't they produce? Anthony Armstrong had nearly 300 more yards than both Williams and Bryant. You Cowpoke types buy into that talent mantra so easily. The fact is that you are what your record says you are and in your case your big 3 wasn't all that and it certainly wasn't a bag of chips. Remember when your three-headed-monster running backs were the media rage. That was until everybody realized they suck. Now everyone is saying that Tashard Choice is the real talent there and do you know why? Because he hasn't played enough to show that he's an average back too. So sorry, I'm going to say the three Cowboy WRs are going to have to prove they are worthy before I give them any credit. Of course, if Santana Moss and Anthony Armstrong had stars on the side of their helmets we'd be being told how great they were instead of a weakness. It's just too bad our weakness outperformed your strength.

Why is it so hard for people to admit that if the Cowboys had a better OL and if Romo sits to pee wasn't out all season, their WR corps would have DESTROYED ours? Statistically, of course. Who knows if it would have translated into wins, with that defense and with Romo sits to pee's propensity for choking.

We can't know if Dez has the attitude and work ethic that will allow him to thrive long-term...

But anyone looking at it objectively would trade Moss (if he's brought back), Armstrong, and.....who? Roydell Williams? Brandon Banks? Terrence Austin?

Anyways, they'd trade those guys for Dez Bryant, Miles Austin, and Roy Williams. Just based on talent, because you can't ever know, for good or bad, how players' personalities, etc. are going to effect their careers. Especially under a coach like Shanahan.

Now, maybe a few months from now our WR corps will consist of Sidney Rice, Santana Moss, Anthony Armstrong, and a rookie like Hankerson, Vincent Brown, or someone. And then I would change my mind, most likely.

But until then, if I'm being objective, I'll take those Pukes over ours any day. Because looking at the stats isn't all that matters....let's be honest, the Skins threw the ball A LOT...and someone has to catch those balls. So our WR's were going to have some decent stats. It doesn't make them better receivers than others. It just makes them more productive for that season, in a different situation.

Dude. I was agreeing with you. Showing talent and having talent are two entirely different things.

My post highlighted the talent that I perceive the players to have as well as their apparent shortcomings. If we could find a way to harness the talent and overcome the obvious (Oline) obstacles, we might have a lethal WR core. If the players don't respond to their new coach and/or our Oline continues to suck we will be in for the same ole one-n-done (if that).

While you and I may disagree about Romo sits to pee as a QB capable of winning the SB, I know that we'll both agree that it's not going to happen with the offensive line AND culture-problems of the past.

This is a quality post, right here, ladies and gentlemen.

I hope puke fans take time to read and digest it.

If, if, if...if we had an o-line, maybe our WRs might have broken some records this year.

The fact is, Kitna filled in pretty well for Romo sits to pee. He does what Romo sits to pee doesn't: protect the ball.

In this league, there's very little difference in talent from one team to the other. Coaching, attitude, injuries and some other intangibles (refereeing) are what make teams great.

The 'talent' argument is a canard.

Fair enough, but as I said in the post above, you HAVE to be talented to make the roster on any NFL team...to say that a 6-10 team is more talented than an 13-3 team is ridiculous.

The talent-argument is salve for losing teams.

really TR1...Kitna had 12 INTs in 318 attempts (1 int every 26.5 attempts) while Romo sits to pee had 7 INT's in 213 attempts. (1 int every 30.5 attempts) Kitna also had 7 fumbles (1 lost)

Looks like you need to do a "little better" research.

so true.......this i can absolutely agree with, the talent pool isnt as far ranging as some think, however, if there is a group of players on the Dallas Roster that could be "considered" full of talent, it would be at WR.......But Talent gets you a 6-10 record, when your under coached, and a team full of flaws.

sometimes there are 13-3 teams that have very little talent as well.....do you remember the Cowboys 13-3 season, where you blasted them for having an over rated, "talentless roster" ......not an exact quote, but the theme was over rated and over stated talent......This Cowboys team that went 6-10 is as talented as the group that went 13-3, if not MORE.......Coaching failed them a little, but the real failures are from the GM........And that is something unfortunitly for us fans is never going to change.....HOWEVER.

I like Ryan, and the man has football DNA and can definityl coach, so the Defense will absolutly be better next year and will be much closer to the "stats and rankings" oif last years Defense!

Do you think that the Skins' OL and QB situation was better? Really? And I never said our guys were better. They just outproduced. My point isn't that the Skins WRs are great. It's that the Cowboys WR corps is just as much hype as the rest of their team. Although I do have to give it to Myles Austin. He is nearly in the same class as Marion Barber in the celebrating average plays category. Nobody, and I mean nobody, dances better after a 6 yard catch. And that faux smile is something to behold. He just takes it to the next level.

I don't know how you could say that considering Moss pretty much doubled Bryant's output last season. He'd definitely be a starter here, but automatic #1 no.

Dez Bryant had twice as many touchdowns in 3 less games. I'll take the touchdowns.

He was also returning punts...

for the purposes of this discussion, how does that make him less talented? The fact that he was able to bring a punt back for a TD seems to indicate that he is more talented than someone who doesn't have that ability, or shown that ability.....
