jimster
I would assume SOS will keep 6 WR's (hopefully 6 RB's too) and we already know that Coles, Gardner and Jacobs are locks to make the roster, but who is going to get the boot? All of a sudden we're hearing impressive reports about Scott Cloman, who I like the sound of his work ethic and commitment to playing special teams. which leaves seven guys for three roster spots... McCants - I hope makes the team - good possesion guy Scott Cloman - sounds like a good back-up/special teams player Patrick Johnson - speed guy, but haven't heard much about yet Richmond Flowers - practice squad? Cliff Russell - speed guy, but fragile Sean Dilliard - ? James Johnson - ? and of course Wood**** - heard good things in mini-camps, but nothing lately (is he still eliglble for practice squad?) anyone want to make a prediction? Thinking Skins
I think that McCants has a much MUCH bigger chance to make the roster than Russell, Wood****, Johnson, Cloman, Dillard, or Flowers. I mean, Given D-Mac isn't the fastest guy, but he has shown that he can play in games and that counts a lot, plue he has shown that he can catch the ball in the red zone, another big plus. We dont know what these other guys will do in the real games, but just because they've had nice practices doesn't mean much. I think until D-Mac actually performs badly, the 4th WR job is his to lose. THat being said, I think that Russell, Wood****, Johnson, Cloman, Dillard, and Flowers are all competing for the 5th and 6th WR spots, and I think that they are all showing that they have playmaking abilities, but I think that their special teams is what is going to seperate them from one another. We'll see tonight though.

OrangeSkin
Obviously, our opinions will be shaped by preseason performance but this is how I feel thusfar. 1) Coles 2) Gardner 3) Jacobs 4) Russell 5) McCants 6) Johnson PS: Flowers Cut: Wood**** Cloman Johnson Dillard
Skeletor The Invincible
Uh, As far as I know Flowers is not eligible for the Practice Squad. I suppose it's because he was on the PS last season.

I think you can go two years on PS and thats it.....that's why Cloman has been trying to be a special teams specialist, 'cause he's been a Practice squad player for two years already. He's definitely ineligible, I know that for sure. And I believe it's because of his time spent in NFL Europe. And he wasnt on our practice squad last year, he was with Dallas
Dr. D
dont forget the magic IR If McCants is hurt then I see him going to IR freeing up a roster spot for say Cloman or flowers

The first five I feel certain about; the sixth is the one up for grabs, but I have a feeling with two big guys among the five, that Spurrier will go with a speedster so that he can have 4 WR sets with all burners out there. Johnson provides that, and he already has NFL experience.

Larry Brown #43
As much as a lot of us like Darnerian around here, my gut tells me he is on his way out. I don't think Spurrier particularly likes him (he sounded really irritated about McCants' injury sustained while stretching). I think Cloman makes the team, and Coles, Gardner Jacobs and Russell are locks. That leaves McCants and P. Johnson to battle over one spot. bulldog
I agree that McCants may be a casualty one way or the other. He didn't have a catch last night and is a holdover from the previous regime which valued the big possession receiver a lot more than Spurrier does. rg2k4
I don't know about you guys but i like Richmond Flowers and Scott Cloman (If his injury isn't too bad} over McCants. 1.Laverneus Coles (Good Hands, Great Speed) 2.Rod Gardner (Good Size, Big Target) 3.Taylor Jacobs (Reliable Hands, Knows offense} 4.Cliff Russel (Good speed, Very Quick) 5.Patrick Johnson (Solid Speed, Great 5th Wideout) 6.Richmond Flowers(ability to catch in traffic) That looks like a solid unit. Gamebreaker
McCants didn't have a catch last night because he didn't play, due to injury. Regardless, D-Mac hasn't looked to impressive in TC, and I think Spurrier already thinks of Russell higher on the depth chart. He's lucky Cloman got hurt last night, or he might be fighting for the sixth spot in the future. A damn shame since he's showed so much potential from late last season. Maybe he's been focused too much on Vivica and not enough on getting better.
Gamebreaker
I actually expect Flowers to have a drop in peformance and be one of the first recievers cut. I also don't feel Patrick Johnson is going to make it. Pat has gotten by in the NFL because of his speed in Baltimore and Jacksonville, if not, he probably would've never seen the field for both teams. Spurrier isn't the type of coach to keep a player for only a single attribute, you've gotta show him more. Most likely, he'll keep the recievers that have shown they'll make catches and make plays. That doesn't bode well for Pat Johnson.
