Carlos Rogers = The New Shawn Springs

Anybody else concerned about Carlos' constant little injuries that he's had the last few years? Every year it's something new. No way he deserves an extension if he can't show even the slightest bit of durability. He won't play through any pain and doesn't even make plays when he is out there (Stone Hands have been discussed over and over again.)

With Smoot deteriorating and Tryon not starting material, my prediction is that we go CB in the early rounds of the draft next year or that in the uncapped year next year, we target a big name FA CB.

2010 will be Carlos' last year in the burgundy and gold. You heard it here first.

I like Carlos a ton. I think he's a far better corner than D Hall. With that said, I bet if Vinny gave him a nice extension that he wants he probably wouldn't have missed a practice with the calf thing. It's in his best interest to be as healthy as possible to earn a big contract after this season. If he gimps through the year at 75% he won't garner the type of money he probably should get.

Wow the short run memory on some of you posters. Didn't Carlos bounce back incredibly fast from a horrific ACL and MCL tears to have a very successful last season? Guy is a top notch cover corner and he steps up in run support as good as any CB in the league. I think taking it cautious with the calf injury in preseason is the right call. It's the type of injury that could really linger (aka Springs last year) if not allowed to properly and fully heal. I think for sure he is gonna leave it out on the field given it's a potential contract year for him. I also suspect he is gonna earn a big payday and it will be the Skins who extend him later this season.

BTW, I think it's great that the skins are starting to let players get to their contract years, it's certainly leads to career seasons more often than not.

This thread topic is an epic fail.

carlos played in every game last year. Had a season ending injury in 2007, played and started 15 games in 2006. I don't see how he is anything like shawn springs.

I think it is bc there is always some injury ya know? It seems like everytime I turn around hes hurt something...

Yeah Carlos is gone, and it sucks. I dont think everyone realizes how good this guy plays against physical receivers......we CAN NOT have Denagelo matching up with bigger stronger guys.

Case in point: he was totally abused by Randy Moss. Granted, it's Randy Moss... but Hall didn't even slow him down.

Rogers is by far the best corner on this team. People get on him for dropped picks, but he doesn't give up a lot of catches, so I'll take it. He is very effective against bigger receivers, too. If he was in the game, Moss wouldn't have looked like Super Man.

completely agree. i think they drafted barnes in hopes of being a replacement. theyre almost identical in height/weight. hopefully next year barnes will have learned enough to take over for carlos.

We could really use a little more depth here. Please bring in Rod Hood. I don't think Barnes and Tryon are ready for primetime yet.

I also don't think Carlos will be gone next year. I doubt there will be a CBA, so Rogers will be a RFA. If there is no CBA, the first thing we should/will do is lock up all of our guys with front loaded contracts.

Carlos Rogers is easily the most under-rated redskin. The guy is much better than people on this forum expect and if he hit the open market you'd see just how valuable he is. He makes plays and is better than Hall. I'll say that again, he is better than Hall.

Also wasting picks on defensive backs again next year would be a HUGE mistake. D Backs are the redskins version of what Detroit did with wideouts. We need OLine help more than we need anything at all. If we were to go CB early next year it would only be evidence that Vinnie is indeed the complete idiot most fans think him to be.

Then he's overpaid, bigtime. If he's a #2 CB why pay him #1 money after he failed to earn it from 2 other teams?

It's like paying a 3rd down specialist RB Portis money and then leaving Portis dangling without a contract.

Carlos is a better man-man corner than Hall. I'm not saying that i dislike Hall. He brings a different type of CB mentality and game than Carlos brings. Hall is quicker to adjust to the routes and jumps them to make plays on the ball, but this also gives the risk of a big play by the offense.

Carlos i think, is a safer bet to play against possession receivers. He's bigger and he commands more space. Hall IMO is better suited against speedy recievers.

theyre different CBs. rogers has absolutely 0 ball skills which will hurt his value. hall is the kinda guy that can pick you off and take it back for 6. rogers is not a threat like that.

however, rogers is much more physical and a better cover corner than hall is. hall, to me, seems like a risk taker corner, thats gonna get burned but is also gonna get 6-8 picks a season. rogers is a shutdown guy who might get 1-2.

im glad we have both for the season.

Hall is a terrible man 2 man cover corner. This has been proven several times. He's not as good as Rogers, not by a long shot. Interceptions are great but if you can't be trusted to cover a wideout they don't mean ****. Hall is without question the 2nd best corner because he; needs a pass rush, a zone coverage, and a smaller man to shine. Rogers doesn't need any of that to disrupt the passing game.
