TE#80
could be a young Janikowski, a 64 yard field goal earns him at least consideration with a late round pick.

At the same time, what to you figure the hit rate on late rounders is? We've got a 7th that could go to say a O-lineman with a 10% chance of becoming an eventual starter, or a top kicker in the draft with a 50% chance of becoming a starter. Just an example, but need based drafting in the later rounds is kinda silly imo...

No 7th this year, gone to the Vikings for Erasmus James. We've got 1,3,5,6 ( I believe, 2 to Dolphing for JT, 4 to Jets for Kendell, 7 to Vikes). Now I wouldn't be adverse to getting a K in the 6th, but after the Durrant (not Derrick ) Brooks situation last year, I'm sure the FO might be a bit gunshy about such a pick. skinfan2k
Only idiots say we dont have enough picks to waste on a kicker or punter. A good kicker can change your season from 7-9 to 10-6 easily on his own

A good kicker can change your season from 7-9 to 10-6 easily on his own Bingo. I'd take this kid over an OL prospect if he was worth it. Just saying, 'Don't take a K, take a lineman,' hardly makes sense. What if the kicker is the best Kicker in the draft- but the best available lineman was projected as an UDFA? lavarisgone
I'm a UTEP fan so I've seen this kid kick the last 2 years,he is real good, but I agree with most, don't draft a kicker, if he's still around as a FA, then yes.
RWJ
We don't need to use a draft pick on a PK. There will be decent ones available as UDFAs.
SkinsMaster88
Count me among those who'd rather go for a proven vet. This guy was 20-27 in FGs this year. That's 74%. That would be good enough for 31st in the NFL this past year (though, Suisham was 32nd with 72%). So, he had a booming kick in one game. I don't see this guy as being worth a draft pick. What total extra value could the O-lineman give as an eventual starter and backup, even if it is only a 10% chance? What total extra value could a replacement kicker provide? Laron Burgundy
He's not the only good kicker coming out this year. Really Sam Swank or McAfee would be nice. Swank's stock is down because of a thigh injury but that kid was 18-21 as a junior and not counting this year when he was injured, he was 9-12 past 50 yards out. 75% accuracy past 50 yards is just awesome. He might not have AS much of a leg as Martinez but he's more accurate and he has a good enough leg to kick from 53 yards out (and I really hope we don't attempt 64 yard fg's ever, save that for the raiders). The 20 for 27 is misleading he was 5 for 5 from 20-29yds. 8 for 8 from 30-39 yds, 6 for 7 from 40-49 yds, and 1 for 7 from 50 + yds, though he attempted 4 kicks from 60 , just because Mike Price wanted to give him a shot at the NCAA record. He was also 17 for 20 as a junior, and has deep kick off's, so he will get a shot in the NFL, having said that we can't afford to draft a kicker. Hope he slips out of the draft and can be had as a FA, doubt it.
Xero21
The LB from Tampa can punt 70 yards? Holy cow. His name has such a bad association I've blacked it out. In any case, no kickers with one of our 4 draft picks please.
gkekoa
I for one think K is a huge need for this team; however, I'm not one for drafting one this year. I say bring in the best Kickers in the nation and have them compete for the job. Put them in a situation that is easily the most stressful they will ever face. Have them start off with 20 yard field goals, kicking 5 of them. If they miss one they are done. Back it up to 30 and if they miss one they are done. Back it up to 40 and the highest percentage in a 10 kick trial wins. If there is a tie,we back it up to 50 and see who can win there. Bironas and Graham will be to expensive. freestyln
for the sake of arguement, I'd trade down the 5th round pick for a lower 5th & 6th, and scoop both Louie Sakoda & Graham Gano. Both are versatile in kicking & punting; one if not BOTH will pan out. Stats don't lie...
