You are "Vinny" who do you pick first?

I've read a lot of threads about our 1st round pick.

Analyst-Experts-Mocks puts these players as possible picks:

Who would you go with if these guys were available?

1. Kenny Phillips, S, Miami (every mock has him going to Denver and Carolina except for a few have him sliding to us. Maylock for NFL Network also has him sliding to late first round.)

2. Keith Rivers, LB USC (Doubt he falls out of top 15 but he's in some mocks and is posted in these forums. Im high on him so I put him in here.)

3. Philip Merling, DE, Clemson (will be available)

4. Calais Campbell, DE, Miami (Will be available)

5. Kentwan Balmer, DT, UNC (Will be available was a 2nd but seems to be moving already)

6 .Limas Sweed, WR, Texas (Will be Available)

7. James Hardy, WR, IND (Will be available)

8. Dominique Cromartie, CB, TSU (great senior bowl along with combine will move him up to late first round so He will be available.)

9. Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas (4.3 at combine will push him up to late first)

10. Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma

11. Jeff Otah, OT, Pittsburgh

Now I know they wont all be available, BUT it's a senario if they were who do you take #1?

my choice....Kenny Phillips. Great ball hawk type safety. Very athletic. Will help the corners tremendously.

I'll go either Kelly or Cromartie.:notworthy

No way I take a WR in the first. With the past history of "bust" WR's taken in the first round and "hidden gems" in later rounds, plus the depth at WR in this year's draft. I wait until round 2 for that.

I don't know... I don't see how we desperately need a corner like some people do... or a safety for that matter. I really think our secondary is the least of our concerns. Here's what I'd do. Ready for a shocker?

Address the defensive line!! DT, DE - I don't care. We need a pass rusher, but we need someone to bring pressure in the middle too. Pass rush, of course, takes at least some pressure off our secondary. Nothing like killing two birds with one pick.

And that's why you're not a GM.

I would take Calias Campbell, he is still very young and raw but has all the physical attributes to be an elite DE in the NFL.

i really like campbell, i do, but i dont think he is not going in the first round. i think he can be a good end with coaching (who better than blache), but his combine was less than stellar so unless he has a huge pro day he will slide into the second. i would draft him in the second in a heartbeat but i dont think he will be there when we pick. someone will pick him based on potential alone. him and carter would be awesome. he also has the size that he could slide inside on third downs so that evans or washington could line up at the end and be the pass rushing specialists.

Mario Manningham, in my opinion the best reciever in the draft and the additional weapon we are looking for. Not sure how tall, I'm think 6'2, bigger than Moss and El anyway. Moss, Manningham, El, and Cooley would be quite an arsenal for JC.

manningham is listed at 5'11 3/4" 181lbs. santana is listed at 5'10" 200lbs so they are pretty much the same size. zorn has said he wants a big reciever so i doubt we will draft manningham. after reading about marcus monks pro day i think that he would be a good later round pickup, freeing us up to get better talent at oline, dline, and corner in the earlier rounds. i also saw some footage of manningham's teammate adrian arrington on here. he looks like the kind of wco possession reciever that we could also target in the later rounds.

Jeff Otah (But he won't be there)

-That's of course after i ask Danny if its okay

Jeff Otah actually might still be there. He could not run or work out at his Pro day because of a sprained ankle and that might scare a team or two away from him.

I have to say I find the whole way NFL teams evaluate players for the draft crazy. After 3 or 4 years of game footage and stats from College some kid who excelled drops a round because he is a couple of tenths slower in the 40 or has a worse vertical leap than expected. Meanwhile another kid who did squat in College gets drafted high because he runs a great 40 or lifts 30 reps on the bench lift or whatever.

Seriously who cares what time a DT runs the 40 in for example? Any play in which your DT runs 40 yards has not gone well in any case ...

To answer the original question best player available who is a WR, OL, DL or CB. I have no idea who that person is, thats why we employ people to work that out.

Somehow, someway, we have to get Manningham. Whether it's in the first or not. WE NEED HIM. He will be a sick weapon in the NFL.

That would be a HUGE reach at 21....if he is there in the second yea take him but not first. We need to get BIGGER at WR not smaller. He is 6' not even. I say James Hardy with the 21st pick...now that would be a reach but he is a projected late 1st round early 2nd and not as big a reach as Manningham.....super mario is not even in the top 5 some ppl say.

JAMES HARDY WR 6' 6" TD Machine

We don't need a slow skinny WR. If we draft a WR from Michigan this year, it'd be smarter to get Arrington in the later rounds.

And that's why you're not a GM.

:rotflmao:

Well Put.

And Calais Campbell is not 1st round material, in case anyone was wondering. He's got size, but no heart and little production this past season. He'd be worth gambling on in the 2nd, because he should at least make a serviceable Run stopping DE, but he's not worth a 1st.

OMG...

Another ExtremeSkins member...ExtremeSkinning someone on their grammar, diction, syntax, and spelling...[/url]

I agree with the corrector. Too many people misuse the simplest of contractions: You're. Whats so hard about it? You + are = You're.

You're the man.

Your car is clean.

Its really not that difficult and, although simple, I would be embarassed to have made the mistake.

If I were Vinny I'd go after the biggest need with the best player available and that's OG Brandon Albert / then CB Tracy Porter in the second and C - Steve Justice in the third and WR - Adarius Bowman with 3C.

But I am not Vinny and Coach Dan wants somebody to replace Springs in another year. That's why I go CB then WR or WR then CB. Either Limas Sweed/Tracy Porter or Aqib Talib/ James Hardy.

Kenny Phillips would be great. We could get another punisher at safety. Some say he has Taylor like skills. If he had 1/2 the talent he would be worth that pick. No knock on Doughty either he is solid but not a game breaker. Cromarti is interesting aswell. I just hope we go with th best player regardless of position. Johnathen Stewart? Who knows hopefully Vin does his homework. I dont want the second coming of Taylor Jacobs or a reciever that is picked because of his size. If he is the best one and has the size great. But I would gladly take a shorty if he would be like Steve Smith or Santana on a good game. I can tell you all this, due to the lack of action in free agency the draft feels like opening day. Hopefully we nail it. hail
