You would have to pry Dorsey from Parcell's cold, dead hands.

Dallas would jump ahead of us the second that they caught wind of us offering to trade our 1st picks for the next 3 years.

Dallas can easily move into the top 8 by trading its 2 first rounders. It can probably be into the top five with an additional pick if it wanted to.

I actually think Dallas is going to trade down again for future picks. I don't think that they think they need that much.

To give you an idea of how much this trade would cost us look at the chargers-giants trade of 2004. Basically to go up from 4th to 1st the giants had to give up their 1st, 3rd, 5th, and the next year's 1st. We'd have to trade much more than that for this trade. If we traded for the 4th pick overall we'd have to give up our 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and next year's 2nd. That's a hefty price to pay for one player.

The problem with trying to get player like Dorsey in our position is that while he may be the best player at a position of need, he's not the type of player you mortgage the house for. If we needed a RB, McFadden might be the type of player you do that for. If WR was a big position of need last year, maybe we make a similar move for Calvin Johnson. But dominant DTs are too often not found at the top of the draft. The amount we would need to give up just wouldn't be worth it.

The OP is a great judge of talent. Dorsey looks like a can't miss prospect and someone who could dramatically change our defensive line for the better.

However, the price tag would be too high, in terms of salary and signing bonus as well as what we have to trade to get that high of a first-rounder to get Dorsey. That part would require giving up many future picks and possibly decent low-salaried players.

Then when you consider that the 2008 Zornskins win-loss record might slide from what we did in 2007 - giving away that 2009 high first-rounder could wind up being even more expensive.

Frankly, I suspect Danny/Vinny/Zorny will commence with their overhaul of the Gibbskins between this year's and next year's draft. If that is the case, they're going to need most of their 2008 and 2009 picks to do so.
