Skeletor The Invincible
Looks like it wouldn't happen until 2009 at the earliest. You guys like the beach? http://hamptonroads.com/2008/01/beach-officials-hope-lure-redskins%E2%80%99-training-camp-sportsplex The Washington Redskins could be calling Virginia Beach their summer home as soon as 2009. Redskins officials are in preliminary talks with city staff to move the team’s training camp to the Virginia Beach Sportsplex in a deal that would bring professional football players, coaches and their legion of fans to the region each summer. The discussions are still nascent, and officials from both the city and the NFL-playoffs bound Redskins have tried to keep them quiet. But Beach officials said the Redskins are asking the city to pony up about $2.5 million, including infrastructure improvements to the Sportsplex, in exchange for moving the team’s training camp from Ashburn, just outside of Washington, D.C. to Virginia Beach. mcarey032
Yeah it would be cool if they did that, but the unfortunate thing would be the fact that is when the beach season is going on and the hotels are making their money hand over fist. It is all jam packed down there during the summer and I don't think that it would be any better trying to do add to all the beach traffic. Love the idea, don't know if it is necessarily practical. Skeletor The Invincible
Yeah traffic on I-64 is always a pain in the butt in the summer.
spjunkies
I'd love to move camp out of Ashburn.
skinfan2k
I think its great for events like Beach Blitz but i dont know if they expect much more attendance on a regular basis

zoony
This would be awesome I've got several places to stay for free there
Corkscrew44
That would be cool and add to yet another distraction for me to get any work done. With beach residents kinda pissy about their property assessments, its gonna be tough for the council "people" to snake more taxpayer money. I have always thought the Bowers Hill area would be a great place for a mega indoor/outdoor sportsplex but unfortunately the soil would hardly bear the weight of a tent. JustAfan47
i dont like the idea....sounds like to much traveling Fed Ex then to the beach then back to Fed Ex then back to the beach then back to Fed Ex...
dez_mick
It would be nice if they came down here. It would be cool to run into CP or Cooley at the beach. It would also be nice if they used the VB sportsplex for something other than minor league soccer.
TuckahoeSkin
Yeah traffic on I-64 is always a pain in the butt in the summer. Try heading down route 17. It's slower, more country, but far less stressful. Or take route 5 down from 295 east of Richmond. 64 gets ridiculous.

Skeletor The Invincible
My big problem with R. 17 is that cops patrol that area entirely too much. And I don't like traffic lights.
Corcaigh
One way to reduce the crowds at training camp I suppose. I thought they might want to get away from the heat.
10fttall
I think the crowds would be bigger. The Hampton Roads area has an enormous fanbase that would love the chance to see the Skins without taking the 3 hour drive.
Skeletor The Invincible
Yeah, the Hampton Roads area is a huge Redskins place. ... and it gets just as hot there as it does in D.C. I'm hearing that this won't happen at least until Gibbs retires again.

Bibelot373
So, I'm transferring to ODU in the fall [my sophomore year] to major in Sports Management, with the intent to somehow work for the Redskins one day. THIS NEWS JUST MADE MY DAY...that will be amazing/very convenient possibly.
1Adam12
That would be awesome... And in time for me to get back from Germany too. It's a good idea. Now if only the 3rd largest metropolitan aera in the US could get their own professional sports team. . .
