Warhead36
Devin Hester is the fastest player in the NFL. Darrell Green possessed world class olympic calibur speed. Hell remember a couple of years ago when Green ran in the fastest man challenge at the Pro Bowl? He finished 3rd despite being 40+ years old running with 25 year olds. ST21RIP
D Green no doubt. Hester may have the quickest acceleration ever, but D Green is still faster and would win in a come from behind race. Not that far behind though.
DeMarco Murray 29
How fast was Bob Hayes? There is no official record of Hayes 40 times. He was clocked to run 60 yards in 5.28 seconds [Hand timed so a bit skewed] Ran 100 meters in 10.05 at the Olympics, also ran it in 9.
PCS
Now that would have been something to see. Imagine Bob Hayes at receiver and D.G. covering. Would need slow motion replay to see what happened.
radagast5
We've got a winner. Brown from the Rams (former olympic athlete 4x100 relay). He sure beat him once but that doesn't mean he's faster. The play to which you're referring was a kickoff during a MNF game in November 1987. Green caught Brown at about the two yard-line with a shoestring tackle but Brown fell into the endzone for the TD. In 1988 and 1991, Green and Brown raced head-to-head in the NFL's Fastest Man competition. Green won both races. (Brown was one of the four members of the 1984 U.S. 4 X 100m relay team, along with Carl Lewis, Sam Graddy, and Calvin Smith, all of whom lost to Green in head-to-head races over the years.) Many people used to call Peter Warrick the fastest guy coming out of college. The Redskins alone have 2-3 guys with greater straight ahead speed than Hester. - Carlos - Laron - Springs (when healthy)
meast4eva
Hester's speed is above average but the thing that sets him apart is that he's able to make cuts and juke people without breaking his rhythm. And he's at full speed by his 2nd or 3rd step.
greenspandan
this is one of the more ill-informed threads i've ever seen here! it is no contest. darrel green was a world-class sprinter, one of the fastest in the world. hester is a phenomenal punt returner, but he is in no way faster. well, i guess i'd give him even odds in a sprint between the two today -- but i don't think that's what you meant! STaylor2136
I'm pretty sure you made up the name of #3..or at least sneezed while typing - but, no - that is good - thanks. Made up?? I take it you have never seen Lee Evans run before. You should watch him and find out. He is one of the fastest players in the league

DGreenistheBest
Examples of his speed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAWOV4prnDU&feature=related Watch the whole video, there are multiple plays. Also of note, the comments from cllamont who is so stupid that he claims he was misquoted when his previous post is only two lines away and shows that he was in fact NOT misquoted. Hester is shifty, and while he is fast, he is not faster in straight ahead speed than those guys. The theme of this thread was "fast."

Hester has them beat in all categories or speed especially in straight line. They cannont keep up with Hester or even come close.
ted@GT
Matt Giordano of the Colts is faster than Hester. Watch the Super Bowl replay, when Hester returns the kick for a TD. Notice that at the end Giordano actually catches up to Hester after blocking and given a few more yards would have tackled him.
