Legal question/warning for Redskins fans

My predictions aren't entirely based on preseason.

* Campbell looked decent in his first year, and he looks like he's improved dramatically.

* Our defense was great in 04 and 05, and 06 was a fluke. The way they're swarming and looking incredible is a solid sign that 06 was a fluke.

* Portis hasn't even played this preseason. My prediction has absolutely nothing to do with preseason for him. It has more to do with Al Saunders' trend of generally similar stats in his first year and vast improvement in his second with a team. His runningbacks usually benefit. He made Ladell Betts look like a pro bowler, and I'm just not convinced that Betts is good enough to be a starter on most other teams.

When you go to court over it the Judge will probably be pissed that this idiot cop is writing tickets for stupid **** like this and wasting his time.

Especially if 50 other people go to court to fight the same stupid ticket. Because you know that you weren't the only one who has a plate cover and he's probably busy pulling them all over.

I'd just carry a copy of the actual law in my car incase another idiot comes along.

If the state was to raise the limit, people would be able to legally drive with a natural flow of traffic.

If they did this, then next month people would want 10 more. When the intrastate road here went to 65 people upped their driving to 75, so NO people wont just go the 10 faster, they will go 10 faster than the posted.

I hate cops especially the ones in howard county maryland...we have had like 1 murder in 9 years and so they got nothing better to do with their time. Sorry you had to experience the azzhole cops i deal with on a daily basis...by the way if youre ever driving on route 29 don't speed cause you'll get a ticket 85% of the time. godspeed

 Yeah..everybody hates cops....until they need one.....maybe the cops don't like the azzhole speeders?

In all fairness, it sounds like the the cop in the OP's post was being a dick....but there's no reason to hate on all the cops.......

I would for sure fight this one. The cop probably will not even show up at the court date and the fine will be dropped. Now that some bull**** there......

http://store.redskins.com/productinfo.asp?item=67&deptcode1=514&sn=5

That is illegal to have on your car.

I have a $60 citation to prove it. I was at a corner in Columbia, Maryland and a cop pulled me over. He said that my license plate holder, as linked above, was illegal because it covered part of the plate. "Maryland", the website on the bottom, and my registration expiration dates were all visible, but I still got the fine.

I asked him what he meant, and he made an analogy to crack pipes. I'm not joking. He asked, "You know how you can buy those glass crack pipes in Baltimore?"

"Um, no? I don't smoke crack."

"Well you can buy glass bowls and pipes in a store up there, and it's fine to own it, but you can't use it. That's like your license plate holder."

I asked him about the holders you get when you buy a car, like "Jim Coleman Jaguar" or "Win Kelly Chevrolet", and he said those are all illegal, too. Fantastic.

So, the warning is that if you buy that plate holder, or any Redskins plate holder, you're breaking the law.

The question is to any lawyers/police that read this board: Is this seriously true?

I think I'd be fighting that one in court.
Exactly. And, I would write letters to the editor of local papers and such. IF this is the case, and the judge upholds the fine when you take it to court, then the public has a right to know about this. If thousands of people find out out about this ticky-tacky sitation, I think things could get changed. Especially if you get some of the car dealership owners and Mr. Snyder involved.

News story here about that and they said .. the judge would probably just reschedule and not just toss a ticket out, they called it an urban legend that you get off scott free if the officer does not show.

I have not gotten a ticket in a long time, and I paid it.

I did look at going into court and was told that if I lose they would ADD COURT COSTS to the ticket, so that really motivated me to just pay it.

Just a heads up, Cops in Maryland are *******s.

When my brothers car got stolen and stripped, we found out what house had all the parts due to the trail of antifreeze fluid in the snow.

What did the cops do, not a damn thing.

I support the police, primarily because my father was one, but those cops were dicks.

I hope someone jacks there **** some day.

Oh yeah that makes sense. Driving a car fast means you should pay thousands of dollars. Forget that you havent neccesarily driven dangerously(big difference). People that drive fast are GENERALY much better drivers. They are capable of driving that speed safely. Not everyone is out for a thrill ride to scare themselves half to death(and im not talking driving 30-40 over here). You know the really bad drivers? The slow ones. I see them every day, they drive 10 mph under the speed limit, half of them are too old to be driving anymore anyway, they dont use their turn signals, dont check their mirrors, and cause near accidents all the time. The reason they drive that slow is because they CANNOT drive faster safely.

Cars were invented to move us places faster than we could previously. Why would you drive a car when you can get exercise and still get to the destination in the same amount of time? Much like we invented trains to go faster than cars, and planes to go faster than trains. If we wanted to get there slowly, we would walk. Further, every year car manufacturers produce safer and safer vehicles, with more safety features, better handling, better brakes you name it. Cars are infinately safer than they were 30 years ago. Further, a 30 year old pickup and a 2 year old sedan do not drive the same at the same speed. Driving the sedan at 70 is far safer than driving the truck at 50. Also, every year localities spend more and more money improving roads, making them safer, more idiot proof, using millions of dollars.

So you explain to me, why it makes sense, when the very PURPOSE of driving is to get to places faster, when cars are getting safer and safer every year and are far safer than they used to be, when roads are getting better and better and are constantly improved upon to MAKE them safer, why the hell speed limits are LOWERED on a consistent basis. I cant remember the last time I saw a speed limit raised in the past 10 years. I can remember many times ive seen them lowered, and lowered. And then you consider that if im driving a 2 year old sedan much safer than a 30 year old pickup, this is given no consideration whatsoever to the safety of my driving, with regard to the speed the driver is going?

And we are LOWERING speed limits? Thats just stupid. Crack down on bad drivers(when they have actually done something wrong), dont crack down on good drivers who drive happen to drive fast(but still be reasonable about it).

Actually, the major hole in your argument which kills the entire thing is this: "Dont crack down on good drivers who drive happen to drive fast(but still be reasonable about it)."

The fact is, if someone is being responsible, they are FOLLOWING the rules and laws, no breaking them, regardless of whether they agree with them or not.

I drive fast. I have many tickets throughout my 18 years of driving to prove that I drive fast. However, I don't kid myself or pretend that that makes me a better driver than someone who obeys the speed limit.

It doesn't matter how safe cars and roads are made, drivers trump that safety all the way. Cars and roads are only as safe as the drivers controlling them. If you are driving the safest car ever made at 85 mph, and have to suddenly maneuver around an object, person, another car, an animal, road debri, you will still have less controll of your car than a person driving an old beat-up piece of crap at 65 mph.

And, when you crash this safe car, your body will still be moving at 85 mph when that car crashes to a complete stop. No matter how safe that vehicle is, that is going to at the very least hurt like hell .

Fight it, and if it comes down to it, tell the Redskins to pay for it, they shouldn't be selling us things that can get us tickets.

This is wrong.

I bought a REDSKIN plate that says #1 FAN. I COULD put it on my truck........BUT I KNOW that in TEXAS I have to have 2 plates......one on the front and one on the back. They sell it.......it is up to ME to decide how to use it and to follow the laws.

Well I know down here in florida if you get a ticket and you decide to fight it. If the cop does not show up on date of court then the ticket will be dropped no matter what.

Blondie, please, if they're going to sell you something to put around your license plate, they are required to tell you that it can be illegal, they know it too.

That's like a toy company selling you a toy for your baby and not telling you they could choke on it.

You know the baby can choke on it, but they're required to put the warning on it.

Come on.

I bought a shotgun, but do not recall them telling me I cannot carry it around with me as I walk my dog ;-)

Cop was a dick, plain and simple...some people just become power hungry when they obtain a badge due to an inferiority complex before becoming an officer. I work in law and enforcement and see this crap all the time...these cops are not the majority but sure give police a bad name...:helmet:

Wrong again.

Each state has DIFFERENT laws about what can or can not be put around a license plate. Some states do not have 'NO PART HIDDEN' clause.

Wanna try again?

But it's not the Redskins place to know all the laws of all 50 states. It's yours to know the laws of the state in which you drive. Ignorance of laws is no excuse. In VA you have to have 2 plates as well...back & front(didn't know TX was that way..glad we're not the only ones). If you live and drive in VA, you should know this to be the law. If you don't know that to be law, why do you have a VA license? I agree w/Blondie on this one. It's up to you how you use it. I bet if you looked at the itty bitty print on the packaging you might see..*check your local laws before placing tag on vehicle* or something to that effect.

That's like radar detectors in this state. They're illegal and you can't buy one in VA...but you can buy one from other states....if you're caught using it...you're ticketed or whatever. Somewhere on that package it says..*check local laws concerning radar detectors*.

Maybe where you are it's an urban legend, but I know people who went to court on some minor offenses, and the cops in those cases didn't show. The charges were dropped.
