TheDoyler23
baseball knew it had no chance to succedd unless homers were reintroduced and flying out of the park.. THE NBA with JOrdan and the popularity of the NFL was a huge factor in their decision making in allowing steriods to exist You're phrasing this as if it were a conspiracy. It isn't. There was a steroid policy in place back then, but enforcing it was severely lacking. The Owners didn't believe their players were doing steroids because there simply wasn't a reason too. Perhaps they were willfully ignorant, although the players union would have needed a swift kick in the pants to accept a stricter testing policy. You could test positive for an illegal substance in the NFL recently and it was never reported until you failed a second test and were suspended. THE NBA with JOrdan and the popularity of the NFL was a huge factor in their decision making in allowing steriods to exist Exactly. I hate to sound like a broken record on this but, the league, the teams, the media, and the fans are all guilty in this matter. I know I'm guilty of it. Unfortunately some of you have been brainwashed into thinking only Barry is the bad guy, Barry is the bad guy, Barry is the bad guy...... It's ridiculous. While it is bad for the sport, I still love it. It's the people that are the problem, not the sport itself. If you don't have the patience for the sport just say so but don't claim that you don't like it because it's dirty!
Destino
Basketball is a crappy and limited sport. For one thhing, talk about a limited audience...Asians can't play it cos they are small and only freaks get far in that sport. It's played indoors (which makes it a game in my opinion, not a sport) and anyway...it's boring as hell and baseball gets a far bigger audience. Yankees and Mets each got over 3 million paying spectators last year...Sox sell out every game etc. The World Baseball Classic was a huge success....Baseball is a growing sport. Basketball is a dying sport. Basketball is boring? Baseball is the biggest "it's fun if you go to the game" sport in the world. That in case you missed it is code for "boring as hell to watch on TV" because the sport itself is slow as hell. Basketball is all action while baseball players only break a sweat if it happens to be a hot day.
Blighty Skins
u obviously have no clue when u talk.. 82 games = more attendance:doh:.. Fenway is one of the smallest parks in baseball.. African Americans are being faded out of baseball and its a growing concern.. Meanwhile, the NBA continues to prosper over seas and stern has developed a plan in the future to make a NBA eurpoe and NBA china. And you speak from experience? I'm from Europe, you know? And baseball is far more popular. When was the last basketball world cup? Cricket is more popular then basketball. And one reason nobody likes basketball is because you need to be 7 foot to play it...which is sort of limiting, don't you think? Baseball....you can be any size. Basketball is dying...face it. Oh yeah...no one likes baseball that's why the Yankees and Mets are each building a new park. Baseball has tradition, elegance, style and is a beautiful sport. Basketball is a crap shoot for people with a short attention span who like seeing freakoid giants run around a goldfish bowl size court all the while breathing in sweat fumes in an enclosed arena. Very nice.

jrockster21
they may smoke weed but i doubt the average bballer would consider steroids to improve his game. Right...They've got a 350 lb 7footer in Shaq to defend, but they don't consider taking something to help them bulk up. Right.

You make a big deal about the WBC? no1 in america cares about it While baseball is perhaps the most popular sport in the United States and is certainly one of the two most popular along with football http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baseball Dream on matey. And it doesn't matter. The WBC was to promote baseball around the world...and it worked. Holland participated as did Britain, Germany and Italy. And tonight they're showing a live baseball game on national TV here in Britain.

TheDoyler23
because we can't win... It's an entirely American tradition to declare ourselves world champions and ignore any actual world tourny we can't win. The problem with the WBC is the timing. American players rest and rehab in the offseason and crank it back up in spring training. Lots of players do the fitness programs in the off season, but they aren't playing baseball. The asian nations season starts earlier than MLB, so they have an advantage. Latin players play for God and Country in the Carribean world series in the MLB offseason, so they have a big time competitive mindset going into the WBC. The Carribean world series has some great baseball.

Doesn't make sense...how about you provide a source otherwise I wont believe you. And no, football is an outdoor sport sometimes played indoors. Same as baseball (Astros Minute Maid Park roof). Basketball is an indoor game always played indoors...just like chess, tiddlywinks and curling.

Predicto
He cheated period. Where have we come in this society where a guy who lies and cheats get honored for doing it?? Let me put this in perspective in a way Redskin fans can understand my point. Art Monk was a stand up guy. didn't cheat and played with honor integrity. He hasn't gotten into the hall of fame. . Bonds cheated and lied about his steroid use and people and reporters don't seem to be balking at his induction?? What's wrong with picture?? All I'm saying is that if you cheated to get what you are being inducted into the HOF or record books, you don't belong there. Let me put in a different way another Redskins fan can understand. Do you think that Joe (freakishly huge with acne all over my body) Jacoby might have used steroids? Should the Redskins give back the Lombardi Trophys they earned when big Joe and the Hogs were clearing the way for Riggo and Co.? Nope. Joe's my boy, and screw the steroid talk. no1fanofno21
somehow Bonds is the bad guy in all of this, just because he didn't kiss the media's butt. Totally agree. Bonds is a jerk to the media so they make him the devil. Roger Clemens is skating by right now by only having to be at the ball park when he is pitching, getting paid Ridiculously amounts of money, being a poor teamate and getting praise from everyone in the media. Somethings not right here. And how many times does espn have to make a poll about are you gonna celebrate Bonds HR record. I'm not going to shout from rooftops and throw a party for anyone for breaking a record, but will acknowledge it. Couldn't these polls be worded differently? Kosher Ham
i hope he breaks it, get into the HOF and never admits he used steroids. i want bonds to shatter this record and then baseball gets a bad reputation for doing nothing I don't get it. The guy is one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. Why is he being demonized ? He played the game within the rules. Period. I hope he crushes the record. And I certainly wont celebrate because he is and never was an Oriole. But I respect the value he has to the game.

He is hated more than most jerks in professional sports because he has an extreme dislike of the media and, in turn, the media has developed an extreme dislike for him. Since the media writes the columns that we all read and fills the airwaves that we all listen to, perhaps it does in fact affect our perceptions of who and what Barry Bonds is. Personally, I hate both parties involved, and think they're both lying pieces of ****. But that's just my :2cents: .

mtyquinn
He cheated and denied his actions just as Pete Rose did up until the last few years and is just as reprehensible. He has repeatedly lied to the public and possibly also to the grand jury investigating BALCO. Hank Aaron has stated that he will not be in attendance as Bonds attempts to break the record. Also Bud Selig is hemming and hawing about whether he will be in attendance. They should just "Maris" this situation and mark his record with an asterisk.
