Just A Suggestion

Hey guys, I've been around this forum about a year, and I come in, like to read a lot, and get great information here. Well, I've always noticed around high peak times, we always get repeated threads, mega merges, and always the one or two threads that need to be closed because they have no insight.

Also, whenever we have major things going on, we just create stickies and everyone post there, IE the first days of free agency. Well going through the first page of the last few days, I've noticed that we could easily sift out six threads for the same things:

1) Briggs Trade

2) Drafting a DE/DL (Or Not)

3) Drafting CJ (Or Not)

4) Drafting Brady Quinn or Russell

5) The Effect On McIntosh and Campbell

6) Why Our FO is the Worst

Now I know that this thread seems pointless, but to me, I just felt going through these threads, even with the rating system, it becomes hard to find ones that are original and have some thought involved. Now this is just a suggestion, and hopefully I won't get flamed too much.

I don't post here all that much, but from what I can tell, the problem of multiple threads is not going to go away. People are selfish and want their own angle on any given Redskins topic to be the subject of a conversation instead of a continuation of it. Otherwise, they don't feel like they're being heard. It's annoying, sure, but I've started to wonder - looking at all these folks w/ thousands upon thousands of posts - how many of those posts were spent scolding people.

No offense, but it seems like much more space is wasted on this board by people complaining about redundant comments and threads than by the actual redundant comments and threads. Message Boards are set up so that bad/uninteresting/redundant topics fall to the bottom, and out of existence, right? So, wouldn't ignoring these topics be beneficial to everyone?

As someone who has had their thread starting privledges taken away twice I can say it is probably due to the passion people have for wanting to make a point. We each feel there is "special" insight that we have on a topic that may have been disucced at nausium.

Ultimately, we can each express ourselves in the forum provided. I think it's a responsibility we should each take more seriously. This site is like our house, at least it is to me...I like having a neat house.

i have wanted to say something along these lines for a long time but never put it into words. great post.

another thing on this board that makes me chuckle is the fact that guys complain about posts like in before the close or just smileys but the level of respect you command around here is a combination of the intelligence of your posts and the NUMBER of them. what do they expect. i meen i have been on this board over two years but still have a guy sitting on a bench looking like tony Romo sits to pee after his botched snap for an avatar.

the whole point of typing on a message board is to be heard otherwise you are just talking to yourself. A lot of times you may have a good point but when you put it on an existing thread that most people have already read through quite often nobody sees it.

i believe this is one of the problems with multiple threads being started.

another one, and i have seen this plenty of times is someone buries a very good point on an exsisting thread which someone else reads and starts a new thread on it so that they can get the credit. this is what i call getting scooped syndrome.

Lenny P are you reading this?

In before close.

:applause:

Etc.

No really youre totally right on this tbh. I couldnt agree more. Personally i think post count should be removed and avatars should change dependent on length of time registered and then have a bunch to select from for the real veterans.

The problem with multiple threads being started is just as stated above, everyone gets on their soap box and proclaims they have the answer and then make a thread about it.

Personally i think ive started like one thread in the time ive been here so it makes me laugh when i see all of these people getting that privelige taken from them and then getting smart about it.

I disagree. I think a lot of people see it. Just because they may not be quoting it and specifically responding to it, does not mean it isn't being read. I don't think that is the case at all.

Also, can someone please explain to me the fascination with post count? I would really be interested to know. Seriously.

This is interesting so far. All of the respondents up to this point are relatively new members and not what would be considered prolific posters, or what I refer to as those with diarrhea of the keyboard syndrome. In short, for the most part they fit the profile of those most commonly blamed for what is wrong with this site...the dreaded noobs.

Yet, truth be told, they are probably most like the average visitor of Extremeskins, they appear to read more than post, observe more than criticize.

I have two thoughts on the thread subject, neither of which are original but bear repeating.

1. The No New Threads campaign has been a success. It's not perfect and some fall into the cracks, but overall it has helped greatly. The only part of that area missing is a probationary period for new members before being allowed to start threads.

2. The quantity based avatar system is the root of all evil for this site. The lure of a shiny new avatar for the low, low price of posting something, anything, is catnip for people. It drives some to posting 5,000 or more times in a year. I bet the vast majority wouldn't do that if there were not a prize at the end. Look at how severe the drop-off in activity in the Tailgate Forum has been since posts stopped counting there as evidence.

Thats why a "rate the thread starter" option would be a great thing.

Anyone with a 1 or a 2 wouldn't be allowed to start threads. They'd automatically have to just post in other threads for a week. 2nd time would be a month, and so on.

We'd easily cut the threads down to about 10% that way.

Make it a 20 vote minimum so that 1-2 people couldn't just screw someone.

Extremeskins has over 65,000 members. Think of it, 65,000 screen watching keyboard plunking opinionated cyber-redskin fans. Most of these folks arrived with the Cicadas to greet the return of Gibbs. Naturally, this population explosion caused a cultural upheaval. Fortunately, it appears that the waves of expansion have recently slowed to an ebb, so I do expect a semblance of normalcy to return as Extremeskins adjusts to their new family composition. It may take a little time because there are so many new family members. Meanwhile, some patience and courtesy would ease the growing pains.

By the way, hello to all you new guys.

Ya know Monte, if those ****ers would just get & keep a job, the problem would be solved.

The problem I have with merging all these threads into the same topic thread is having to page thru pages and pages of old conversations/old material. I'm much more inclined to read someone's current relevant thoughts on a topic if it's on page 1 or 2 than if I have to goto page 24.

I think it's called freedom of speech. What makes one thread any better than another? Each of us have our own spin we like to put on things. By the number of posts, it seems that all threads are read and answered. If you think it's a bad thread, then don't add to it.

Right...because Freedom of Speech is absolute? Newsflash: It isn't. Would you defend it if someone posted pornography on this site? That is a form of expression, after all.

Sorry, but the Freedom of Speech argument makes me pull my hair out. You are right, though, that the bad threads should simply be ignored.
