rtandler
Is it smoke? Fire? Or just a smokescreen? Vinny Cerrato materialized from somewhere and, instead of saying, uh, Mr. Snyder, shouldn’t we go have dinner somewhere and chat about this privately, he jumped right on board. Where a fire hose was needed, gasoline was applied. And then, after a few minutes of excited chatter among Snyder, Cerrato, and Rosenhaus, either Snyder or Cerrato said it. “We’ve got to get in touch with Gibbs.” It was like a group of teenage boys saying, “This is gonna be a great road trip. But we’ve gotta get Dad to give us the keys to the car.” Four years ago Snyder and Rosenhaus would have drawn up the parameters of a contract agreement on the back of a ****tail napkin. Next year’s first-rounder would have been throw in to the deal to overcome any reluctance the Bears may have had. Cerrato would have been sent scurrying to the Biltmore gift shop to get a Redskins cap for Briggs to wear at the announcement of the deal. But Gibbs, the grown up, is in charge of such things now You can link to the blog at http://blog.redskinsgames.com

tundey
I pray this guy is right and Gibbs has put a stop to this absolute nonsense. Even in Madden, you don't do stupid stuff like this.

SkinsFTW
But Gibbs, the grown up, is in charge of such things now Yeah, but Gibbs must have been behind the Duckett debacle, the Brunell trade, AA give away, Ramsey denial of a 1st rounder then dumpage for a 6th. We've been on the short end of it all. Before Snyder, Casserly was bad, but at least he got us picks back. Didn't he get us the entire New Orleans draft? Yes he did. jrockster21
Ugh...sounds like The Danny hasn't learned his lesson yet. Unless he was truly being jocular about it, which I highly doubt. At least he's asking Gibbs' permission now. The "dad" comment is right on...Snyder is a little kid in a candystore, or a teenager playing Madden. I thought he had gotten better, but it doesn't seem like it. Oh well...hopefully this will fade away into the sunset, and the Denver trade talks will heat back up (#6 for Bly, #21, and Denver's 2nd and 3rd rounder). Hooper
Very good point by Rich in his blog. For Glazer to run this story, he would have to get approval from Snyder (smart guys like Glazer don't burn bridges by printing outright lies). So either Danny was -- A) Throwing up another smokescreen to conceal the Skins true intentions Really did want to make this trade and was slapped down by Joe C) Helping out his boy Drew Rosenhaus D) Simply screwing with the bears
Skin Patrol
I'll take B since multiple reports indicate the Redskins did formally contact the Bears. Throwing out a formal trade offer does not "screw with the Bears" nor does it "conceal our intentions" (formal trades are our intentions). As always, great post Tandler. Peregrine
So basicaly Cerrato has no idea what he is doing, will go after any big name player regardless of whether he is needed or not, and basicaly give up more than he is worth to get the guy... Great. Why is he still here? Seriously, if this is the way Cerrato normaly operates, then we need a personel guy who actually has some restraint and knows what he is doing. Rocky21
It took til now to see Cerrato doesn't know what he's doing? My favorite line from the blog "Next year’s first-rounder would have been throw in to the deal to overcome any reluctance the Bears may have had." Once again, Rich Tandler is the even-keeled voice of reason here. Thank you.
