i can't believe that you guys are already turning on Springs....unbelievable. You guys are just speculating on the severity of his injury, and all ready throwing him to the wolves....!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah WTF he has played Really tough and played Through alot of injuries since he has been here. They asked him to be physical and he has been. That's bound to take a toll. Let him heal. Hope he gets back real soon and good luck getting right!

Would have been nice if we could have Springs the entire season and then draft a nice CB in the first round, but the season is still early and we need a resolution now.. If it turns out that SPrings will be out indefinately then we must make a move for a quality CB before the trade deadline ends.

Didnt he have 6 sacks and many many tackles..Played hurt?

He'll be back when he gets back. I worry about the players ON the field.

I think '04 was the first time in a looooooong time he went a whole season uninjured. Looked like he returned to form late last year and is now picking up momentum for his "off-year" in '04... ;)

i can't believe that you guys are already turning on Springs....unbelievable. You guys are just speculating on the severity of his injury, and all ready throwing him to the wolves....you should be ashamed of yourselves....and you wonder why the players don't have any loyalty to teams...*****, the fans don't even have loyalty to the players even when it's something like this......and the funny thing is, you/we don't even know what this injury is!!! I guess it's your right to hate on a player if you want to, but that doesn't necessarily make it right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who is turning on him? Many questioned the move when he was brought in because he was injury prone. I think we all agree when he is healthy he is a top corner and we all agree we hope he gets well soon. It doesn't change the fact our front office new has always had injury problems.

Isnt the point of seeing an expert to wait and actually see what the expert says before flaming Springs? He has been nothing short of a pro bowl corner the last few seasons and has made us forget about losing bailey for the most part. How about we wait and see what the "expert" has to say before we talk about how injury prone Springs is.

I thinks it's time we look for another CB. I really like Springs, but between last year, and this year, he has missed too many games. We need some consistency there, and I just want to quit worrying about his ability to play each Sunday.

It may be time to retire Shawn, those nagging, unhealing injuries are just too much for the NFL. We'll see, I would just like the staff to tell us what's really going on.

Why wan't this handled after our season ended? He waited until 3 weeks befoer the regular season?

Stupid in my opinion...if it hurts, get it checked out huh

Bingo, Springs and the medical staff missed the boat on this one. He complained about this at the end of last year but played through it, went all offseason and never even got it checked. Dumb just plain dumb

Little background refresher on this injury.

http://www.redskins.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=18829

Cornerback Shawn Springs could be sidelined 3-6 weeks after undergoing a medical procedure to repair a minor tear in his abdominal muscle.

It is hoped that Springs will be fully healthy by the start of the regular season, on Sept. 11, against the Minnesota Vikings.

Describing the medical procedure, head coach Joe Gibbs said: "It's fairly simple process, it's the same one that John Hall had last offseason, so they decided that it was best for Shawn and for us to go ahead and get that repaired.

"I talked to the doctor this morning, and the best guess is that it'd be 3-6 weeks and it just depends on how he's going to return from that."

Springs was not at Tuesday afternoon's practice. The 10-year veteran participated in training camp practices and he played in last Sunday's preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Springs logged a sack on a cornerback blitz on Bengals' QB Anthony Wright.

Springs has been mostly durable in his NFL career, playing in 123 of 144 games. As a Redskin, he has played in 15 games each of the last two years, although he did sit out one of the team's playoff games due to a groin injury.

Asked if the injury was related to the groin injury last season, Gibbs said: "We don't think so. It's in the same general area so I don't guess you ever know on something like that. He came back this year, looked great and felt great.

"It wasn't something we had to do, but we felt like the best option for Shawn and for us was to go ahead and repair it now to make sure something didn't happen later in the year to make it worse."

And a little more recent news.

Springs was a spectator again at practice Thursday, a day after travelling to Pennsylvania to see a specialist in a routine follow-up to the abdominal surgery he had Aug. 15. The muscle that was reattached during the operation is healing nicely, but a groin injury is delaying his return to the field.

Springs strained the groin in his right leg last week when he tried to return to practice.

"He has strained a few fibres in that muscle," Tyer said. "We'll take it week to week."
